9.52 August Snapshot

, , , ,

Coming back from a two week vacation just to find the office half empty because the others have gone on vacation is a bit boring, but at the same time it is very relaxing, giving me a slow start.... The boring part is that so little happens at work when people are on vacation. While I was expecting to make a small changelog this time, I didn't expect it to be this small. Anyway, give the build a spin, we're closing in on 9.52 final now.

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Changelog
  • Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu
  • Fixed an issue with lists not displaying correctly when text rendering is RTL
  • Fixed opening of files in external applications when disk cache is off
  • Fixed issue with low quality on YouTube video previews
  • Fixed mail appearance when Opera is installed in a folder with a "#" character in its name
  • Fixed RealPlayer on BBC
  • Added work-arounds for problems with various POP servers
  • Fixed problem updating signature when switching accounts
  • Quite a few stability fixes

Eike Baranaldi Friday, August 1, 2008 12:52:25 PM

nice...the return of the good old windows-shell-menu: a quite good agreement between easy-to-use and a wide range of functions

Шуйский Николай [krigstask, Ŝtérkrìg]Sterkrig Friday, August 1, 2008 12:54:10 PM

I expect this build lacks cool features of previous one (

Charbel Hindibetatest Friday, August 1, 2008 12:58:11 PM

Many Thanks Toman and opera team

Tommy A. Olsentoman Friday, August 1, 2008 12:59:06 PM

@Sternkrig: Yes, this is a regular build. Those you mention are all experimental features.

Lito Friday, August 1, 2008 12:59:11 PM

Haven't downloaded it yet but just want to say thanks for this "Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu" yes

EDIT: This one is great too "Fixed issue with low quality on YouTube video previews". I thought it was just an issue with my flash plugin.

abiwan Friday, August 1, 2008 1:07:10 PM

I hope you squashed the bug number 345575. It's very frustrating for a web developer to not be able to work on html pages locally.

Andrew NguyenSouthernCross Friday, August 1, 2008 1:10:21 PM

This build should the the "9.52 Solar Eclipse" build. Cause it's today! bigsmile bigsmile yes

Fixed opening of files in external applications when disk cache is off

Does this mean you can view source in Opera when the cache is off?

I don´t have a Windows shell context at all...
bug-336916 still there (icon looks like a letter)
bug-336920 still there (tabs don´t open, when rightclicked somwhere else befor)
bug-346669 still there (Opera crashes when downloaded a pdf and then opend it.)

And the style bugs are not fixed, since pre-release of Opera 9.5 sad

Ward Friday, August 1, 2008 1:32:02 PM

Fixed RealPlayer on BBC

Is that even possible?

PS. Thanks for the new build!

i can't enter the letter 't' at the search box in the upper right corner of this page:

Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu

Fantasdelicious!

Hermenhermen2048 Friday, August 1, 2008 2:52:54 PM

@secutor: Confirmed on Vista 32. This is caused by this script (116 is 't'), no wonder why this is included...
http://www.rabobank.nl/javascript/ra_keys.js

As a workaround, you can copy-paste the 't' from somewhere else.

galanga Friday, August 1, 2008 3:00:48 PM

Thanks for that new release, but can you solve the "site preferences cookies setting" problem :
- If "Global cookies setting is set to "block all cookies"
- go to a site for which you never enabled cookies before,
- open the site preferences dialog (right-click), go to "Cookies" Tab, it is on "block cookies" set to accept cookies
- close the dialog.

The cookies are not enabled. If you re-open the same site preferences dialog (right-click), on the "Cookies Tab" is still on "block cookies".
This means that the dialog code is broken (don't take in account the changes) or that the writing of the new site preferences setting fails.

This is very annoying, because if I use Opera it is because of its privacy and security features, and this bug force me to enable cookies for all sites.

Others seem to have the same or a similar problem (that is also with "allow only from visited sites") : here, here, here, here...

EDIT : here, here, ...

secutor Friday, August 1, 2008 3:11:47 PM

@hermen2048
that's probably why, the funny thing is it doesn't affect the 't' in firefox or ie.

Dr. iTandramkler Friday, August 1, 2008 3:12:09 PM

Thanks for the new build...

Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu

Great!

Now we just need Vista's default explorer back like in the early Alphas wink

Awesome job, guys!

Naelphin Friday, August 1, 2008 3:24:32 PM

Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu

Thanks! One less on the list.

Perhaps using Vista's native open file dialog next? The XP is really getting ugly.

Can't scroll this page down to the buttom:

http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/main.php

At least, several pages of this site seem to be affected. Switching to "User Mode" fixes the issue, so it seems to be a stylesheet problem. Interestingly, Opera 9.27 works fine here. Is the Opera Desktop Team aware of this?

z-o-o-m Friday, August 1, 2008 3:52:42 PM

Nice!
First, I din't have the Windows shell menu in the Transfer context menu,
but it was only because of "custom menu"

THX!

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Friday, August 1, 2008 6:02:15 PM

I'm really liking the windows shell menu the way it is now...in the advanced sub-menu! Great work and great idea! That's an excellent way to keep the menu simple and advanced at the same time so as to not overwhelm the new users!

kavalec74 Friday, August 1, 2008 6:05:31 PM

It looks terrible when the shell-menu's language differs from Opera's language sad

Where and how can I delete it?

juksu Friday, August 1, 2008 6:06:16 PM

Readded the Windows shell menu to the Transfer context menu
