Just updated from 9.51 to 9.52 on Win2000 and for some reason Opera crashes even more than before. I get these memory write errors even when I just click a link on some webpages. It first appeared when browsing http://tweakers.net. Then it popped up on http://www.rememberthemilk.com. I then installed Opera from scratch (deleted progfiles and appdata folders) to see if the problem was with a plugin or userjs I had installed, but two clicks later I knew the answer ;-/

I've been around since version 3.56 but this 9.5x batch must be the most crash-prone version of Opera I have ever seen. Too bad Opera rushed this 9.5x branch out too fast. Opera should believe in their own strength and not rush into things when a slow and buggy competitor releases a major upgrade :-)

So I hope Opera gets its act together and fixes things in 9.53 or 9.60 real fast. I can't think of using FF or IE as a primary browser... The horror!

Hi guys, I am unable to edit posts or do anything at all in editing mode on a blog using Wordpress.

Is this a known issue or it might do with some of my userjs ?

Denis Edward Chesneyflotsam22 Monday, August 25, 2008 11:25:57 AM

Please try the following basics to see if they tackle your problem:
Clean cache and cookies and restart Opera.
Temporarily disable userjs and usercss scripts when using them.
When the above doesn't work do the profile reset to see if the instability is an update glitch: http://my.opera.com/neeraj_deshmukh/blog/show.dml/319153 .

Can anyone confirm that the menus on http://www.omikk.bme.hu aren't working as smoothly as they should? The site is almost valid HTML, and valid CSS 2.1.

@ Werdel: Confirmed on Vista SP1 x64 (Ultimate).

Can anyone confirm that the hover text on various pages here ( http://beta.revealedsingularity.net/betastuff.php ) are not behaving right? Particularly the last instance of "actinopterygian". I'm building this site and I've gotten the CSS and HTML validated, and even working in IE. its infuriating I'm still stuck with an Opera bug!

bug bug bug bug
On my system the menues (example: "Bemutatkozunk") are a liddle bit slower
than with Firefox 3 AND more important -> they are DESTROYED
(at every time), and eaven more extrem when moveing the mouse over it.
(-> the menues are using JavaScript for this)

Happened with Opera 9.52 (stabile -> 10800) @ Windows XP SP3 with IE7

BUT Works fine with Safari 3.1.2 & Firefox 3.0.1 & Opera 9.27
(liddle bit slower than with Firefox 3)!

It is working not right in 9.52 as well as 9.60 (10408). Vista SP1.

Denis Edward Chesneyflotsam22 Wednesday, August 27, 2008 8:34:27 AM

Thanks Alot @EricJH bigsmile: all it needed was a clean instal, not an upgrade.
And now its working smoothly:yes:

Read this article from the Open the web people of Opera on the current state of affairs: http://my.opera.com/ODIN/blog/2008/08/22/open-the-web-update-google-facebook-apple-ebay .

EricJH --
That is awesome news Thank you Opera!!!
Since I like to complain how come information like that isn't on these dev blogs? It seems like everything is too spread out, I'm interested in all things Opera but would like a central location to find all this cool information maybe just a landing page with feeds from each blog or something?

Thanks Opera Rocks!

Yeah, I started noticing it with 9.51, page load gets "stuck" somewhere, but I can't seem to find any specific element that triggers it.

Secondly, the addressbar dropdown now has an extra line under bookmarks that match the autocomplete, with the path of the bookmark. I didn't have it in 50 or 51, any way of turning that off?

I got a regression/bug (?) with Opera 9.52: all the thread titles on mpcclub forums are now displayed in black while they should be white (and they are on FF).
Worked fine on previous versions wink(last was 9.51 stable)

example:
http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=175

how i see it:

EricJH Friday, August 29, 2008 1:06:12 PM

It also shows with black headlines here with 9.51 (started 9.51 with a new opera6.ini).

[Slightly OT]
Opera crashes when playing any video at bubblare.se
On the other hand, so does FF, Safari, IE7 and Google Chrome.
xpsp3, flashplayer 9,0,124,0
Anyone else having this problem?
What am I doing wrong?

EricJH Wednesday, September 3, 2008 1:34:12 PM

I can't confirm with 9.60 (10414) on Vista and Flash 9.0.124.

I dunno if this is old news or news at all -- JAVA speed test is crashing my Opera every time. Opera disappears (without a Windows error report - strange) at the final redirect from the concluded testing to the test results. Never makes it to the test results.

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?loc=2&premium=

Specifically,
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?java=1

Opera 9.52, Win XP SP2, "Block Unwanted Pop-Ups", disabled animated images.

I tried with 9.6 build and got results. Haven't tried 9.52.

On http://freenetfoto.de/album/rranton/ clicking on for example 'Eurobike 2008' should open an album but nothing happens or a wrong content is displayed.

Wow! Thanks for Opera 9.52 guys - I was first a skeptic, hearing of those horrific reviews of 9.51 and then read you'll switching to 9.6 instead of a subversion like 9.55 or so. Anyway, updated today and Opera 9.52 is really faster than 9.27. And with the features of keeping the 9.2 compatible and being able to activate the single-button shortcuts is the right way. Can you keep it that way?

Amazing! Long Opera user since I guess .... lost count bigsmile

Thank you again for this browser

JoeGoJoeGo Friday, September 5, 2008 9:49:43 PM

@thebigredO: you are kidding, right? Opera 9.6 is "Opera 9.55" with a couple of new features. It's the same browser. It's just an upgrade from 9.5

Believe me they will. That stuff returned by popular demand in the beta days of 9.5...ninja knight chef party

cattmcat Monday, September 8, 2008 7:51:49 AM

Thank;)
I love opera & OPERA WORLD COMMU..

psy_zero Monday, September 8, 2008 8:50:09 AM

Maybe it's just me but:
-Comments in Myspace can't be published (button not clickable)
-There's some weird problem with DeviantArt - in most cases the "browse" button for selecting a file to upload is not clickable

.....help?

Ferrisferrisnox Tuesday, September 9, 2008 4:29:37 AM

In the Print Options --> Paper & Orientation menu it doesn't remember Landscape vs. Portrait mode from one session to the next reboot... kinda annoying.

jaykay1 Wednesday, September 10, 2008 8:37:12 AM

I have just installed the latest Windows Update - automatically sent to my computer - but have it setup so I must accecpt the install. Since the install, I can no longer download files, I can still access websites, in both Tabs, and New Pages, but, again, when attempting to download, the Transfer Page flips to ERROR.
I have never had any problem using Opera before, so I must assume the Windows Update - this date - is the problem.
Any ideas out there ???

Did Opera get closed abruptly because you had to reboot for the install of the Windows updates?

Try profile resest: http://my.opera.com/neeraj_deshmukh/blog/show.dml/319153 .

prophetofdisaster Saturday, September 13, 2008 1:39:13 PM

I've got the same problem as jaykey1! The only way I can download an .exe is to use the "Save Linked Content As..." function. Opera simply crashes everytime I directly click on a abc.exe link to download.

I believe it started this week after the Windows updates as well.

I tried the profile reset...no joy. Same problem exists. The problem is not with the profile...

Any solutions?

Thanks!

Check for corrupted keys in the registry
http://computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyName=security&articleId=9087199
I sure have them but I'm not sure when they appeared. It might explain some oddities... Stay tuned.

prophetofdisaster Friday, September 19, 2008 3:12:14 PM

Thanks for the help. While I am running XP SP3, I have never installed any Symantec products on this machine.

I still have the Opera crash problem when trying to download .exe files. All other files download fine.

Thanks!

prophetofdisaster Friday, September 19, 2008 3:18:01 PM

When I try to access Tools>Preferences [CTRL-F12], nothing happens (the preferences dialog does not open.

I have tried re-installing Opera 9.52 with the "repair" option, but it has not helped.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Neither have I. I might have had Clamwin installed but I am pretty sure it wasn't running.
