Opera Desktop Team

A New Snapshot and My First Post Here

, , ,

Hello, my name is Øyvind and this is my first post here since I joined the Opera's Desktop Team less than two months ago. It has been a busy time for me, but at the same time, I think it was the perfect time for me to join. I have already witnessed the release of 9.52, and we are getting close to releasing 9.6.

Before I started, I was just a MyOpera member roaming the #weekly IRC channel. Fridays were always a highlight. That's when I got the answer to all my questions. Did someone fix my bugs? Were there any new features enabled? When is the next version due? Now when I am on the inside I get to know all this information every day I go to work. And the best of all, I can now fix bugs myself, as well as play and contribute new functionality for the next release. So now I get to have fun every day. What more can I ask for?

Today we have formally EV-enabled Verisign and Comodo in Opera v9.5 and later, which you can read more about in Yngve's blog post. So go and try out our new snapshot, and have a lovely weekend.

I tried using the Microsoft site on my other Windows XP SP3 computer and I still have the same javascript problem..

Why does it work for some people but not others?! :furious:

AECX 12. September 2008, 21:16

@ lamarca

Did as you said to

disable the block content by

f12 >> edit site preferences >> content uncheck enable content blocking

but problem still exists.

on safeweb.norton.com, when trying to add a review..

Dom 12. September 2008, 21:23

Oooh it's (http://www.microsoft.com/en/gb/) working for me now! I turned javascript off, refreshed the site, turned it on again, refreshed the site again, and voila all the links bring up the boxes like they should! Maybe this will fix Google Maps and Yahoo Maps problems?

Tim Altman 12. September 2008, 21:23

@cranil7: We are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. It's probably the same issue seen by Exolon.

Hello Øyvind. Congratulations with your new job at the Desktop Team.

Installed the new weekly and giving it a go...:sherlock:

Hypezor 13. September 2008, 00:12

Opera now depends on libqt3c102-mt.

And i cant find this package on ubuntu Hardy. :frown:
bug-362230

Edit: oops, seems i tried to install gcc3 version instead of gcc4.
Works now p:

Daniel Sitnik 13. September 2008, 00:46

Welcome aboard Øyvind!!

kevinarjun 13. September 2008, 02:09

Thanks for the build as always...

Hewi 13. September 2008, 05:48

As i said before*, javascript:void(0) problem occur because of browser.js line 856-862. You can uncomment that out, but probably there will be other problems. Something to do with fckeditor fix.

When i write comment for example to page 4 and i save it. Page reloads and starts from first page from top? I suppose it should go directly to my comment what i have just written.

berend ytsma 13. September 2008, 06:51

to all users that have a javascript:void(0)problem, update your browser.js , just found out that it works again with a new browser.js

Jacques Dumas 13. September 2008, 08:42

Enjoy your new job, Oyvind, and congratulations.
By the way, aren't you Oyvind Kolas, a Gimp script plug-in author who made gluas, an extended Lua script editor?
As usual, thanks to Op.Desk.Team for this snapshot!

aust 13. September 2008, 09:05

Wish for todo:
Would be good if in following versions of opera there was a possibility of the always enabled JS at UserJS.

MrGalaxy 13. September 2008, 09:33

Dear Opera developers!

Let me ask you to build in Opera download master such a property: to continue downloadings (transfers) when Internet drops and reconnects again.

There is very bad Net in my occupation, so this thing will be very useful!

Thanks for attention.

Exolon 13. September 2008, 09:50

@Junyor: Hi, yeah that machine is behind a web proxy which is why I suspected the SOCKS handling code to be problematic... I think I mentioned that in the original bug report, hopefully.

That said, in the hour or two of use after I deleted my profile it didn't crash, so perhaps some cruft in my oldish profile was causing the problem.

Onecar 13. September 2008, 11:38

Nice one, keeping my eyes open for any kind of bug :D .

morbit 13. September 2008, 12:14

Nice but why no FreeBSD 7 build?

Timothy Conner 13. September 2008, 13:20

Updating browser.js worked. It fixed Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, and the Microsoft UK site. I tried to update my browser.js yesterday, but I guess it didn't update.

The easiest way to update your browser.js is to:
Change the option from 2 to 1
Click Save
Then on the menu bar click Help > Check for Updates

FataL 13. September 2008, 13:21

MrGalaxy 13. September 2008, 13:33

Amount of downloadings (transfers) is limited by the value 20.
More downloadings are not available. After Opera restart new downloadings DISAPPEAR!!!
Must it be so?
I wrote it in bug-report, but there is not answer to me, even negative answer.

Systemme - Vista-64-SP1 localed.

What a fool I was when I changed stable release 9.27 to beta-RC...

Sorry for my curve English.

FataL 13. September 2008, 14:28

After Opera restart new downloadings DISAPPEAR!!!

Can confirm this. Very annoing!

SteelRealm 13. September 2008, 15:37

Penny Arcade is not working as reporting in this thread[my.opera].

Gametrailers.com fullscreen mode is broken as reported in the previous build:

Originally posted by By angelofree, # 11. September 2008, 17:00:05:

The problem with http://www.gametrailers.com flash videos in fullscreen mode is still there
Anyway thanks always for your hard work

CNN.com full screen mode is also not working:

Example: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/09/13/storm.videos/index.html

EyeOS is also suffering from a missing feature:

Originally posted by By Bugfixer, # 5. September 2008, 20:00:15:

Doesn't work with http://www.eyeos.info. The "oncontextmenu" of JavaScript is missed. I can't use the right-click function.

Thanks

Note: EyeOS rightclick menu DOES appear, however it isn't the right menu!
Double Note: I didn't find any of these bugs, so I didn't report them. I'm just adding them all into a nice post so they don't get lost.

MrGalaxy 13. September 2008, 16:16

Who knows, what the parameter "Activate On New Transfer" in the opera:config means?

misoman 13. September 2008, 16:42

Maybe this build just hasn't been optimized, but on my machine at least Javascript is noticeably and measurably slower compared to the last build. Besides javascript-heavy apps loading slower and feeling a bit sluggish, every benchmark I've tried -- Sunspider, Dromaeo, Google's -- gives me 15-25% worse numbers. Mind you, I'm on a slow computer (1.2Ghz), so I probably feel the difference more than someone on a better machine would.

unruled 13. September 2008, 17:32

Here's a little request from a university Usability student:
Can we get field highlighting in Opera?

see screenshot for a clear example,
http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=32221970kr5.jpg

Especially when filling in multiple forms, this type of field highlighting really enhanced to the user which field is currently active, other than having to look for the tiny blinking cursor.

Please, if a developer is reading this: go ahead, I dare you

inetdysk 13. September 2008, 19:09

Speed Dial thumbnails no longer disappear when deleting private data

thanks, i was waiting for it

Michael Thompson 13. September 2008, 19:13

Bug: Delete private data does not delete any of my cookies on Windows Vista SP1.
Can anybody confirm?

Thanks for fixing the bug about joomla and writing articles with joomla.

wrote about it here:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=249046

and posted a bug report about it. So thanks again to get this issue out of the way.

Michael Thompson 13. September 2008, 20:17

When adding an attachment .zip files are not show in the file browser.

If I have a file named Pictures.zip on my desktop and browse for it with email attachments no zip files are shown. If I go ahead and type in the full name(Because I know its there)then it will show up in the attachment listbox.

You can use UserCSS:
input:focus, textarea:focus{ outline: 1px solid #ff0 !important }

Setting for first 3 options in Transfer page's view button menu (show when starting download etc.)

Works fine here (windows)

Nuri 13. September 2008, 22:31

Why does it display only a few items in a feed when there should be more?
For example if i subscribe to a google reader feed and i want it to make 100 item (with "?n=100") i will only get 3 item (i collect from 3 sources into the particular label).

abramrosa 13. September 2008, 23:06

I notice the improved speed in this build. Also I found that upgrading to Flash Beta 10 corrected some issues I've been having. Yet, Many sites dont support this upgrade. I wish the world was perfect.

Works for me too. Windows aswell.

Submitted (sonystyle.com) problem: bug-361958 still present

kirkpuppy 13. September 2008, 23:58

The latest Flash 10rc is not reconized, opera:plugins doesn't show it at all. Flash 9 (9.0.124.0) hangs/locks-up when you try full-screen mode on youtube and hulu. Have to restart X to recover. This happens with Opera 9.52 too, except that 9.52 plays the video in full-screen, but hangs if you try to exit full-screen mode.

Linux 2.6.26.3, gcc 4.3.1, qt 3.3.8, Xorg server 1.4.2, OpenBox 3.4.7.2, Fglrx 8.8

if you mean this problem then update browserjs

abbiji 14. September 2008, 04:25

Hello Noteme,

Welcome to the maze of Opera bugs. Please do your best to make Opera usable.

BTW, I'm very much interested to know whether you have any plan to fix the bugs in web archive (saving and opening).

Good Wishes.

MrGalaxy 14. September 2008, 07:18

Download master ReGet cannot be integrated into this browser.
Links are not catched by ReGet and this programme dont start when clicking "download" in Opera.((

veggen 14. September 2008, 09:50

If a page is loading and you press Stop, you can no longer reload images with Right click -> Reload Image.

unruled 14. September 2008, 09:57

@AyushJ,

even if its possible with userCSS - My point is that it is something that ought to be enabled by default, as it would benefit all users.

until this feature is enabled by default however, I will go ahead and use the usercss hack.

mattie 14. September 2008, 10:10

And the best of all, I can now fix bugs myself

that must be very cool indeed  congratulations on the job!

juksu 14. September 2008, 11:25

Note: EyeOS rightclick menu DOES appear, however it isn't the right menu!

This appears some other sites too, opera can`t show/load site spesifick rightclick menu and shows opera default menu like hotmail(full) and http://www.02.fi/kartta.
