Opera 9.61 released

Hot on the heels of 9.60, we had to release Opera 9.61 to address problems in Opera Link. Alone, each issue we discovered was miniscule and shouldn't have caused any problems, but together, and coupled with some server issues, it turned out to be more serious than we thought.

If you've been using Opera Link and has had problems with Opera freezing, getting duplicate bookmarks from nowhere, eternal syncing or other problems, you should upgrade to 9.61, especially since it also has some security fixes.

Come to MAMA!9.62

Thanks but just crashed

Tamil Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:01:59 AM

Classic installer

Status bar is enabled after update.

hurug Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:05:42 AM

May be I missed something, but I downloaded it last night after a difficult and complicated search for "Classic Setup".

It worked fine last night and this morning for a couple of hours. However, it just crashed a ten minutes ago. I am trying to reproduce that... and I'll let you know.

Best browser on Earth anyway... by far.

hurug Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:13:28 AM

Could someboby confirm what is the latest buid number, please ? Is it still 10463 ?

SerGap Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:17:59 AM

Thanks. One question - when http://www.ntv.ru will work under Vista Ultimate SP1 x86 ?

rbej Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:18:14 AM

Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.12.36 freeze sometimes Opera 9.61.
Version 9.0.124 works perfectly.

zarg404 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:31:01 AM

Another problem:
When I go to
http://fr.news.yahoo.com/
and I click one of the news link, I get a blank page like that one

http://fr.news.yahoo.com/2/20081021/twl-les-obseques-de-soeur-emmanuelle-cel-4bdc673.html

ot this one

http://fr.news.yahoo.com/2/20081021/tts-crise-les-marches-poursuivent-leur-r-c1b2fc3.html

Opera 9.61 does not solve the problem.
I am running windows XP SP3

I don't have the problem with my Mac and Opera 9.6.

Thank you

actortoru-1969 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 9:45:46 AM

OH! yikes Very Very Nice Fast Support.
I inspect it from now on.

Thank you.

illiad Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:14:04 AM

lamarca lamarca Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:14:29 AM

thanks for the 9.61

Rijk Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:20:58 AM

@zarg404: check your content blocker rules maybe?

@hurug and others: blog comments will explode and this blog will cease to be useful to read for developers, qa people, and interested Opera users, if each and every crash or malfunction everyon experiences is posted here, complete with new comments telling about your investigations etc. Please read the FAQ to learn what feedback is most useful here.

@tamil: yes, which is useful for upgraders from pre-9.5 versions, but not for later upgrades. we've got a bug report about that...

exterminans Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:33:28 AM

any chance of this getting added to deb.opera.com? cool

Alexandre AlapetiteAlkarex Tuesday, October 21, 2008 10:46:01 AM

Good to see some bugs corrected :-)

I have not had some feedback on these two ones, so I post the bugs again:

1) There is still an annoying CSS bug when selecting with the mouse elements that have both a CSS :after and a :hover
http://alexandre.alapetite.net/divers/vrac/20080926-opera-bug-selection-css-after-hover.html
(XP, Vista, Linux)

2) There seems to be a regression since 9.2x with regard to the XML event "load" (e.g. <body ev:event="load" ev:handler="#test">...) which is not fired as it should (it used to work fine in Opera <= 9.2x). For instance, none of the XHTML+Voice examples are working as they should:
http://dev.opera.com/articles/voice/
such as:
http://devfiles.myopera.com/articles/36/helloworld.xml

The XML event "load" is only fired upon refresh (F5) (tested on XP and Vista).

GroovyMicky Tuesday, October 21, 2008 11:31:01 AM

@rbej: I can confirm Flash10 crashes in WinXP_sp3.

crayrus Tuesday, October 21, 2008 11:46:14 AM

just upgraded opera from 9.27 on diskless PC (mounted via NFS), it started to freeze. there were not such problems on 9.27.

debian etch 4.0r3, ltsp.

Andrei Dziaheldevelop7 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 11:49:40 AM

How about debs at deb.opera.com?

Charles SchlossChas4 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 12:08:29 PM

Typing this using 9.61

ekhaatvensters Tuesday, October 21, 2008 12:44:09 PM

Thanks Chas4, the Opera team will get right on that issue.wizard

spenstar Tuesday, October 21, 2008 1:22:29 PM

this is not Adobe Flash 10.x problem. The latest Silverlight 2.0 crash opera.exe!

Justin Forestumonkey Tuesday, October 21, 2008 1:33:16 PM

Pop-up menu of flash videos is inaccessible: it's overwritten by opera's pop-up menu on top of it. E.g., can't copy video url from an embedded YouTube clip. It was fine in 9.60.

Ubuntu 8.10

huxr Tuesday, October 21, 2008 1:40:56 PM

Currently my Opera 9.61 still does not synchronize with my Opera Mini bookmarks. (Opera Link servers do synchronize with my Opera Mini.)

EricJH Tuesday, October 21, 2008 1:46:03 PM

Thanks for the new build and congrats on the release as always. Been using it since last night (it was spotted at the download servers) and it seems stable.

Is this the only build that never was a snapshot before its release?sherlock

Miladin MiladinoskiEagleMKD Tuesday, October 21, 2008 2:18:06 PM

Thanks for the new build everyone! It was a really pleasant surprise. bigsmile Downloading now! cheers

MAc BanslebenMINUS8 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 2:19:03 PM

It's quite unstabile release... had crashed several times. :/

miszmasz Tuesday, October 21, 2008 2:43:18 PM

Scroll click (open in new tab) doesn't work for me now :S.

Anilcranil7 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 2:52:51 PM

I updated it yesterday itself!!! Many warez sites found it yesterday on your ftp sites!!

Working great here so far!!

Mikhail Zaytsevmihmanz Tuesday, October 21, 2008 2:57:58 PM

Thank you very much, Dear Developers. Opera is great. But, please, fix loading issue with a web-site of one of the most popular TV News Channel in a country where Opera is one of the most popular browser (i mean www.ntv.ru, of course, it stucks at 26%).

HEY! I'VE GOT PROBLEM WITH www.s7.ru in menues(Opera 9.60 works fine, so it's regression)! Please, fix this annoying thing.

Zolizoligrg89 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 3:34:02 PM

At last..p

Svoboda Tuesday, October 21, 2008 3:35:29 PM

I only can say that I got plenty of dupliacate bookmarks (therefore b. nicknames cease to work) and notes again. Maybe it is caused by the fact, that I really have duplicate bookmark on my two computers (one same bookmarks on two computers), but I hoped that synchronization should cope with this somehow, maybe by url comparison. And I got 3 or more duplicates anyway. Hope I am not off the topic.

UPDATE: I decided to help opera(the actual application meant) a little bit and installed clean opera, synchronized, deleted everything, closed, opened old opera, imported no-duplicates-bookmarks and ever since everything seems fine on both PSs. Maybe 'Delete all' button on web interface for opera link would find its use after all.

gwarser Tuesday, October 21, 2008 3:51:08 PM

I changed in 9.60 to show only cached images, and when I go to gmail or my bank https://www.mybank.com/ opera says that connection is not secure - is this a bug or feature?
//
"feature" - I mean, extended validation, or so...
//
and the same in 9.61

huxr Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:13:31 PM

yes Opera <-> Opera Mini synchronization problem completely solved, thanks to a final little help from toman!

huxr Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:18:32 PM

@gwarser: Strange behavior... I also get "not secure" connection on that bank's page if I first choose "only cached" images... Gmail does the same... Turning on images, then refreshing the page restores it to secure.

MetalRaise Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:53:32 PM

Did you guys make a change to the Bug Report Wizard? I just filed a bug report but got a strange bug number (DSK-237633), which is actually much lower than the previous ones.

Edit:
I guess you added the "DSK" in front of it because you received too much spam, but I still don't understand why the number itself is so low now.

Irmantasarbuzas Tuesday, October 21, 2008 4:59:49 PM

Thats cool, but where I can get (RPM) Opera for QT4 not for QT3?

Edit:

Haha I found it, u cant hide from me bigsmile
http://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/961/final/en/i386/opera-9.61.gcc4-qt4.i386.rpm

Rafael Luikrafaelluik Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:05:21 PM

myspace isn't loading in opera 9.6, let's have a look on 9.61.... right

They did indeed. Rijk commented in another Desktop topic:

@lamarca, @EricJH: yes, we got a new BTS this weekend. But don't worry, all the old issues have been imported into it, and we can still search on the old numbers

MetalRaise Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:10:53 PM

@ rafaelluik:

No problem here. Do you have a specific MySpace URL that doesn't work?

@ EricJH:

Ow, okay, thanks...
Now, with the different numbering, it will become quite messy in Remco's BTS... Not nice.

michael.opera Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:12:09 PM

This build together with Flash 10 rocks!

- Link-issues: gone bigsmile
- Flash turning white: gone bigsmile

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Tuesday, October 21, 2008 5:53:59 PM

Thanks, been using it since yesterday and it's been stable!

tharos81 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 6:01:54 PM

my opera link is still broken.. deleting all local bookmarks and start synchronising is still creating LOTS of duplicated bookmarks...

edit: and now synchronization failes

does not really look like a bugfix wink

Annoynimousthe_Arioch Tuesday, October 21, 2008 6:18:50 PM

instaler (intern. msi win32) again buggy, again statuspanel jumped into bottom position instead of top one! Yet again hda to readjust it!

Taufiq Ahmedtareqf1 Tuesday, October 21, 2008 6:22:06 PM

the website item can't be dragged or moved to anywhere from the new release of 9/52
this is important when you drag a link to the personal bar,
the most serious issue is YOU CAN'T DRAG THE DEL.ICIO.US BOOKMARKING TOOL TO THE PERSONAL TOOLBAR.

WHEN IT WILL BE FIXED.

gwarser Tuesday, October 21, 2008 6:28:07 PM

One more question: why security indicator (in adress bar) is shown _after_ page is loaded, and not in time of loading? (after page is loaded I not need any indicator, I cut off my conection to be secure : )

In case when i open login page, and security is ok, and then i type my password, click ok - new page is loaded and in this page security is broken:
1. my password is send in secure mode?
2. confidential information in second page are send to my in secure mode?
3. all connections are not secure?

Any option exists to break connection when it is not secure? (on https)
//
thanks Rijk

Rijk Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:08:26 PM

@gwarser: you can't know if the complete page is secure until all content on that page has loaded. If the page for example has a third-party script from a non-secure server on the bottom of the page, the site can't be considered secure. In your scenario, a password send from secured page will be send securely. If that in turn gives back insecure content, only that content is insecure and so not suitable for entering serious passwords. This is all rather offtopic though, better ask about such things in the Security Forum.

Rijk Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:14:40 PM

@the_Arioch: that has nothing to do with the installer, afaik this happens on the first run of the browser after upgrading. tamil also mentioned it in this thread.

@tareqf1: there's no need to yell in here. I'm not sure what you are trying to drag from where to where, but note that since Opera 9.5 you have to press Shift before being able to drop things on toolbars. Or first open the Appearance dialog.

@Metalnoise: we really needed a new bug system, and compatability with Remco's system was not top priority smile But as I said, the old numbers will still work for us.

Rijk Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:17:24 PM

@Metalnoise: the number is lower because bugs were sorted in projects on importing into the new system. Not every report we had in the past was for the Desktop project smile

Madiseestlane Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:27:41 PM

I know that WebCT sucks, but as long it's used would like to see it working properly sad

Already filled a bugreport, though.

Fresh Tuesday, October 21, 2008 8:42:37 PM

9.61 and prior versions on Debian Etch still goes to max cpu and stays there even though no pages are loading. Haven't figured out what causes it, might be a tab with flash that was deleted.

Have been experiencing this for about 1.5 years now - on and off.

Bugreport is on its way.
