Opera Desktop Team

New Year snapshot!

,

Hidy ho,

You haven't seen my face around here before, but Olli felt it was time I made a timely appearance, so here I am! I work in Desktop QA, doing cross-platform stuff, with my feet deeply planted in the Mac-part of our little camp. We have a new snapshot ready for you, with some nice fixes and improvements!

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Known Issues:
  • May crash when showing certain certificate dialogs.
  • E-mails may lose their content when they are sent, resulting in recipients getting blank e-mails.

Changelog:

General
  • Added ability to open mailto links in webmail providers, such as Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Windows Live Hotmail.
  • Fixed loading web pages when clicking on a link while the document still is loading.
  • Fixed "Bookmark All Open Pages" action.
  • Fixed skin color schemes - you can use your favorite color scheme again!
  • "Lock Tab" icon should now be better visible on locked tabs.
  • Several stability fixes.

Opera Mail
  • Improved message composition window context menu.
  • Fixed loss of mail drafts if several drafts were open when closing Opera.
  • Fixed sending link by mail in plain text format.
  • Improved message encoding detection.
  • Fixed several bugs in the compose window related to navigation and editing (also applies to designMode and contentEditable).

Windows-specific
  • Fixed problem with text styled with opacity.
  • It's no longer necessary to restart Opera after changing the external source viewer.

"Lock Tab" icon should now be better visible on locked tabs.

I liked it as is. Uh oh. Wait, this is merely a change to opera's default skin, correct? Downloading now. Thanks folks.

Mladen Pejaković 13. January 2009, 13:04

Finally! Great job!

Junktyz 13. January 2009, 13:06

Great Work.

Hi,
At last, a long awaited return from vacation with something valuable, I hope. It's a gem for seafaring men. Happy New Year.

"Lock Tab" icon should now be better visible on locked tabs.

With lots of tabs, 40+ the site's icon is actually 100% obscured. With 32 tabs open now, the fav icon has shrank to about 8x8 pixels and is barely visible. I preferred the locked overlay where I could still ID the site from the fav icon. Is there any way to override this in the skin? I'm using a native skin if it matters.

EDIT: Filed as bug #DSK-244637 - regression: Fav icons completely obscured

Hernán Gabriel Gonzalez 13. January 2009, 13:29

Very nice that you fixed the html composition (Most readers like Thunderbird were unable to see the content).

I see that you changed many background settings. I recommend you test them with machines with a different window color. I use a gray (211) and some things are not nice anymore :s

Cheers!

WOFall 13. January 2009, 13:37

Great work, esp. the stability issues.

Herwig 13. January 2009, 13:42

The update deleted the Opera icon in the quickstart area of the Windows XP taskbar (I had created this manually before).

And unfortunately copying the text from e.g. www.opera.com/robots.txt to Windows Notepad still does not properly insert CRs... :-(

Alexis Deveria 13. January 2009, 13:44

Has the weird...erm...dashed-horizontal-line-of-weirdness been removed yet?

Its a setting. Just toggle it off... assuming you're talking about the scrolling marker.

HeeZy 13. January 2009, 13:50

auto update never works for me.

James Cassell 13. January 2009, 13:52

thanks! -- always happy to test out a new build

Mark Gillespie 13. January 2009, 13:53

Skin is still broken. Hover over a RSS tooltip, and the text is white on white.

Robbie 13. January 2009, 13:54

Hoorah. Im so pleased the colour schemes where fixed. It was annoying me when the popup for links wouldn't show the address.

Thanks for the hard work.

wupperbayer 13. January 2009, 13:57

Auto update worked, but on my Mac Opera now uses the standard Opera preferences folder, not the Opera 10 folder previous snapshots used. It’s not that bad for me, but you should’ve mentioned that in your changelog.

Alexis Deveria 13. January 2009, 13:58

@fearphage - Ah, thanks. I tried looking for information on that before in previous posts, but couldn't find any.

Cyro 13. January 2009, 14:01

Neat-o.
I can't download browserjs anymore. Can anyone confirm?
I'm on Windows Vista.

stenosis 13. January 2009, 14:07

Will we see some real improvements on OS X some day...?

auto update doesn't work :frown:

Tim Altman 13. January 2009, 14:23

@Camus: The issue with Thunderbird was their bug. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471402.

Charles Schloss 13. January 2009, 14:30

I got this when I staed up Opera 10 mac intel

There was a problem initializing Opera Mail.

Store Init failed
Engine Init() failed

Qbik 13. January 2009, 14:30

After I switch email account during compose new mail the signature don't want to change (I have different signature for each email account)

lokezdc 13. January 2009, 14:31

Unfortunately same problem like with previous X-mass release and Hotmail account. After a few minutes of working whole hotmail is “frozen”. To carry on working with it is necessary to refresh page each time. Automatic reload doesn’t help samehow :frown:

sirnh1 13. January 2009, 14:37

Auto update, failed the first time I tried (kept getting an alert message with no text, but with 4 buttons with 1 of the buttons saying 'manual update' and another one saying 'cancel'.) I clicked the cancel button and then restarted opera and tried updating again and it downloaded the update and installed it without problems. I guess it worked :D

Although, I didn't expect the installation to look like a windows installer thing (not certain how it's called)

Tim Altman 13. January 2009, 14:38

If you already read the changelog, please read it again as it was just updated.

4rcane 13. January 2009, 14:39

is it just me, but i've been having problems playing alot of youtube videos. They keep stop playing for some reason. Could be a flash v 10 problem, not sure

Immanis 13. January 2009, 14:40

Manually updating RSS feeds crashes in Windows 2000.

Immanis 13. January 2009, 14:46

[Update] Is related with the certificate dialog bug, one of the feeds connects with a local server and needs NTLM authentication. When updating all the feeds the dialog is not shown and the browser crashes.

Works fine after Opera gets the credentials for first time.

nataniel 13. January 2009, 14:47

"Unfortunately same problem like with previous X-mass release and Hotmail account. After a few minutes of working whole hotmail is “frozen”. To carry on working with it is necessary to refresh page each time. Automatic reload doesn’t help samehow"

+1 after few seconds, links become unclickable and everything is frozen.

actor 13. January 2009, 14:48

When read an email for M2, the text does not scroll with the space key;
there is not it all the time, but it is sometimes it.

Tim Altman 13. January 2009, 14:53

@toru_1969: Works fine here. Are you using the default keyboard shortcuts?

@Immanis: Works fine here. Can you provide a method of reproduction?

Heinrich Witt 13. January 2009, 14:53

what is with 64bit qt4-builds? will it ever give??

Gonzo68 13. January 2009, 14:55

Are there any plan for Opera 10 to included the Tabs preview like it has been done with ie8 on Windows 7 ?

Sierd027 13. January 2009, 14:58

Thank's for the new build.

I love the new autoupdate!!!

sirnh1 13. January 2009, 15:09

I can confirm the "hotmail is frozen" problem here too...

Mark Gillespie 13. January 2009, 15:11

Anyone seeing any layout problems with the new build, that were not there in the previous build? Devs.. Any changes to Presto 2.2 in this release?

I also have the same problem, sometimes they work, sometimes doesn't, they just stop ´playing for an unknown reason.
@Sierd027
As you can see, you posted 3 times the same comment, maybe you've the same problem that I use to have and already commented on the new my.opera feedback forum: Sometimes you log-in but the page doesn't change so you have to reload the entire page to appear as logged-in. I don't know if it is a my.opera.com problem or a Opera 10 problem.
@Desktop Team
Auto update didn't work, I had to download the build manually.. yes I've selected the "Download All Snapshots" option. Using Opera on Windows XP
Thanks a lot for your work, I hope this year be the year of Opera.

Immanis 13. January 2009, 15:14

Is a feed from a search result in a sharepoint site of my job's intranet. When you try to update that particular feed for the first time it shows the username and password dialog to enter the credentials for that site (NTLM auth).

The crash happens everytime you try to update this feed in a batch without the credentials set beforehand. Is pretty easy to reproduce:

1- Open Opera (Close first if already opened)
2- In the feeds menu click "Read Feeds"
3- Click in the Update (green) button

And it crash 100% in my case. If I try to update this particular feed alone, the dialog is shown and works fine after you enter the username and password. After this any update on all feeds works fine.

Agostino Gruppi 13. January 2009, 15:18

Wait....the autoupdater has updated itself, but also removed the shortcuts from desktop and menu without readd them.

Tim Altman 13. January 2009, 15:36

@Immanis: Thank you for the details. I'll investigate.
