Opera Desktop Team

Auto-updated already?

, ,

A new face on the blog! Well, not really new, I've been part of the inventory at Opera for longer than most other team members :D

Anyway, here's the latest snapshot. This time, we've told the auto-update server before posting here. Everyone with the option opera:config#AutoUpdate|DownloadAllSnapshots checked should get the new build automatically (or be informed, in the case of Unix/Linux users) when going to Help > Check for updates, or after 24 hours of running Opera, or after restarting Opera if it didn't check in the hour before restarting. Please use this method of updating so we can test our systems

We still recommend regular backups of your profile, but everything should just keep working now if you upgrade from 9.6x to this latest build. If you still see problems with some profile data not getting migrated correctly to the new locations, please tell us! The only thing that will not get migrated are manual additions you might have made to the old operadef6.ini files.

Thanks for this build. Auto-update works fine on Mac. I saw the popup and updated Opera before I read this post.

Galileo 13. May 2009, 15:39

Broken_Sword 13. May 2009, 15:40

Was wondering 5 long minutes while loading, cause auto-update but no new blog entry :D

Now I'm satisfied - THX!

lwiczek 13. May 2009, 15:40

Thanks!
scrolling to anchor works now!

fearphage 13. May 2009, 15:48

The update worked fine here.

stivo85 13. May 2009, 15:56

Everything's OK with Autoupdate. Nice surprise  Thx

Zotlan 13. May 2009, 15:57

Outstanding!

Checking for updates throws up an error for me though (Opensuse)

eisteh 13. May 2009, 15:57

Yay, automatically updated. thanks for the build.

bhelyer 13. May 2009, 16:00

Help->Check For Updates absolutely refuses to acknowledge the existence of an update, even with the flags from the post specified in opera:config. I'll won't upgrade manually and see if it ever figures it out.

DjiXas 13. May 2009, 16:02

1st time using auto update, is it always 8-9 MB?

olli 13. May 2009, 16:02

bhelyer: What platform you on? What build you using?

ouzoWTF 13. May 2009, 16:02

 detailed changelog
 autoupdate
 new build

Cyro 13. May 2009, 16:04

Olli: The auto update worked fine for me.
Windows Vista 32Bits (UAC on).
All my settings & profile were kept.

andrewz1986 13. May 2009, 16:04

Autoupdate succeeded, HTML bookmark links work again. But file association doesn't.

bhelyer 13. May 2009, 16:05

@olli: 4340, Linux (Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit if it matters).

EDIT qt4-shared debian

Arguggi 13. May 2009, 16:05

Auto update succeeded, profile and settings are fine until now.

Bill_P 13. May 2009, 16:06

The new Google "wonder wheel" does not display (and yes it's fine in FF)
If turbo is on I get a lego with a "?", else I get a blank

ColKilkenny 13. May 2009, 16:09

Seeing the same problem as bhelyer. Updater doesn't find any update. opera:config is as it should be.

Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. And problem was in build 4340 (if that was the previous build).
Patience isn't my virtue so I updated manually without notification.

godjonez 13. May 2009, 16:12

Autoupdate worked without any problems here using 64-bit Windows 7RC

Corros 13. May 2009, 16:16

Auto update worked, but changed language to English instead of Dutch.

fherrerav 13. May 2009, 16:17

@Bill P: confirmed in XP. Wonder wheel does not display

dapxin 13. May 2009, 16:24

gr8. grabbing the msi now

edvakf 13. May 2009, 16:24

>Reverted [CORE-17828] GetBoxRect gives incorrect result for inline which contains block

Again, this is only **partially** fixed. In the below case if you try to use getBoundingClientRect on the anchor, it returns zero-by-zero rectangle. If you try to use getClientRects it fails without even showing an error.

aaa

darkodj 13. May 2009, 16:25

Auto update worked but i was surprised when i started Opera and seeing setup progres bar without any notification what is going on

I wonder why that happened, stayed Dutch here. Can you get back to Dutch using Preferences?

elitegeek 13. May 2009, 16:28

Great! I'll try out the auto update thing.

phoonkah 13. May 2009, 16:41

The new items in the Turbo button context menu are much better. Contains all the items I expected from the beginning a few snapshots back.

Some consistency improvements to the menu:

- The relevant menu item needs a radio check mark next to the active Turbo state.

- I prefer "Turbo Auto (On or Off)" instead of "Automatically turn Turbo on or off".

- Otherwise, "Automatically turn Turbo on or off" should be more consistent with capitals "Automatically Turn Turbo On or Off" just like all Opera menu items.

Bill_P 13. May 2009, 16:47

I'm finding performance issues with things like opening a new tab where it takes a couple of seconds (literally) instead of being instantaneous (unlike pretty much all earlier versions). Same with tab reload, also an occaisionl lag with bksp or the arrow keys.

64bit openSuse

Irontiger 13. May 2009, 16:47

Auto-update went smooth and the new context menu for opera turbo is a great thing!
Good work

Help/Check for updates: Gives 'You are using the latest version of Opera'
This is without a restart of Opera(build 6417).

OsX 10.5.7 Powerpc G4

Jørn Berg

celiochido 13. May 2009, 16:58

thanx for unix build

Robert90 13. May 2009, 16:58

@Rijk
I have the same problem as Corros, language changed from Dutch to English, changing it back via preferences works as expected, the moment I pressed Ok, everything changed to Dutch

BergRace 13. May 2009, 16:59

"Help/Check for updates: Gives 'You are using the latest version of Opera'

OsX 10.5.7 Powerpc G4"

Same message after a restart.

They reverted/undid the previous fix for this. This means it should be re-broken. The fix for GetBoxRect broke navigating to #anchors

tudsta 13. May 2009, 17:11

Found a couple of menu items with capital inconsistencies:

Mail > Low-bandwidth mode
(change to: Low-Bandwidth Mode)

Tools > Quick Preferences > Open Pop-ups in Background
(change to: Open Pop-Ups in Background)

Patatina 13. May 2009, 17:11

All my previously received emails in opera mail are repeated three times now. But when i delete one the other 2 are deleted as well. Who can confirm that?!

XP, SP3

Wajo357 13. May 2009, 17:19

Deleting an email requires me to hit the 'delete' button on my keyboard twice. Emptying trash requires me to select the 'Empty Trash' menu twice.

michael.opera 13. May 2009, 17:20

--> (or be informed, in the case of Unix/Linux users) when going to Help > Check for updates)

Nope, "you are using the latest version". Using Ubuntu.

Wade 13. May 2009, 17:20

also using ubuntu 9.04 32bit and autoupdate did not work, never have...

Thanks for the build tho!

Are you sure you checked the 'Download All Snapshots' setting in opera:config?

We've seen some cases of that. What mail system are you using? POP, IMAP, using Gmail?

HellbillyDeluxe 13. May 2009, 17:23

I need to run the installer as an Administrator on Vista (x64). Otherwise, I get the following error:

http://i41.tinypic.com/2rdb76v.jpg

Edit: I don't like the new Panel-Icon. The old one looks much better imho. But I guess this is a subject to change, so I'm fine with this.

Please add the new Opera-icon to the next Build .

I couldn't choose "minimize to toolbar". maybe because I don't have a status bar. But i dropped the "Minimized Update" buttton to my tab bar so, it SHOULD work...

Thanks anyway!

Yes, for Unix/Linux users this seems to be a general problem. But I've seen some Mac installations do the upgrade properly.

Patatina 13. May 2009, 17:39

Rijk We've seen some cases of that. What mail system are you using? POP, IMAP, using Gmail?

I use POP.

klingoncowboy4 13. May 2009, 17:42
