More crash logging and settings for Unite bandwidth throttling

,

Yet another new pretty face on the blog! :D I’m a Mac product tester who have been working at Opera for 8 months. You may have seen me on our excellent forums already.

Things are settling down as we are now approaching the final release. Here we have got a new development snapshot for you to play around with while its too hot to be outside.

In this build, automated crash logging makes its first appearance on the Mac! Yey! (Will make my job a lot easier.) When Opera crashes, Developer Tools Access will pop-up asking you for an administrative password. It looks a bit dodgy nervous, but will [hopefully] not be necessary in the final release. Oh, and we’re doing code signing on the Mac now.

We have also added a new advanced settings dialog for Opera Unite. You can set preferences for using UPnP for router port forwarding as well as new preferences for using optional bandwidth throttling for Unite services. (So your friends don’t use up all your bandwidth.)

Have a great summer!

Highlights
  • New advanced settings dialog with setting to limit upload bandwidth in Opera Unite
  • New look for dialogs and tab bar
  • Crash logging on the Mac

Known Issues
  • Crash logging on the Mac does not always work
  • Linux 64-bit Qt4 builds are missing
  • No Linux Intel Qt3 builds due to issues (workaround: Use a Qt4 bundled package)

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Great a new build to play with

MossMan 3. July 2009, 13:06

How ironic... I came back from vacation today and had *just* updated to the last build!

Galileo 3. July 2009, 13:20

Hawk999 3. July 2009, 13:21

I think that the home button had become so ugly since the previous build. Guess I have to find a skin to my liking.

I really liked the skin of the second build.

paulg_ca 3. July 2009, 13:25

Thanks for the Solaris/Intel build! You guys do know you have a Solaris following....

I would love to see the download stats broken down by platform!

We would have loved to have provided a SPARC Solaris build as well but it suffers from the same issues as Linux Intel Qt3 builds. Hopefully we can provide one next time.

fearphage 3. July 2009, 13:40

You guys are spoiling us! We love it! Thanks again to the changelog producers!

Galileo 3. July 2009, 13:45

Always nice to see a snapshot but the standard skin now looks like a copy-paste but darker of the windows native , "New look for dialogs and tab bar" ..the one on the previews build was just fine

evgeny-ig 3. July 2009, 14:03

Already??? :eyes: I like it...

Morphdreamer 3. July 2009, 14:07

Thanks for new build, now skin looks really great!

HellbillyDeluxe 3. July 2009, 14:09

Thank you a lot for the new Snapshot!

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait a couple more hours until I can try it own because I'm at work right now.

Does anyone wannna spoiler me with a screenshot of the new look?

BUG:
Disable Opera Unite (in opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableUnite ) and restart Opera. Now enable Unite and open Tools menu (without restarting). Opera will crash.

jkapsiar 3. July 2009, 14:28

this build skin isnt very well, darker one was much better

jerobarraco 3. July 2009, 14:31

Fixed Bug DSK-253531 << finally!! thanks!

rojer_31 3. July 2009, 14:35

Would be good if you can provide a darker variant of the theme, atleast via the 'Color Theme' option. This last build is just too bright.

mtaki14 3. July 2009, 14:36

Dark skin was way better! Anyway good work...

EDIT

As time goes by I hate the new skin more and more awww

archae 3. July 2009, 14:37

Thank you!

piroxicam 3. July 2009, 14:38

Thank you for the new build, but I also prefer the darker skin color from previous snapshot. This one is too dificult to read the text from tabs.

I agree. The black tab bar was way better!

FreeBrain 3. July 2009, 14:42

Liked the last snapshot skin better!... It was too dark for some icons before, but I liked it better.

Maybe the last skin with a gradient going from darker on left to lighter on the right will make it look the best.

I am thinking on going back to the skins too.. (The home icon looks like my grandma's house, come on!)...

MartinezZ 3. July 2009, 14:42

Wut? Where is perfect dark skin? WHERE IS MY FACE?! Please, give us back our dark, (more darker is better) skin!

patkoscsaba 3. July 2009, 14:43

I think the menu button looks strange having that few pixels from the left of the screen. There should be no space, as in the previous builds.

MartinezZ 3. July 2009, 14:43

"Opera Unite error: The Opera Unite proxy server is currently not reachable. The network may be down."
???

MetalRaise 3. July 2009, 14:44

Thanks for the new build.

The skin is becoming more and more blueish with each build, and I've noticed that this blueish stuff really starts to bug me the longer I use it. I also hate that buttons get that intense blue gradient when they get the focus.

Thanks god skins can be changed, so I don't care about it too much.

Would it be possible to add "grey" to the color schemes in the appearance dialog?
Or even better, add a button were you can define your own color using a color palette. That would be absolutely awesome.

MartinezZ 3. July 2009, 14:50

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7144/tabso.jpg

Green - how can I disable this button for preview of tabs?
Red - there is too much spaces

patkoscsaba 3. July 2009, 14:51

Now, about clicking buttons ...
- the menu button still has the "double click bug" (after menu was shown I have to click it twice to have the menu shown again)
- the "trash" button got the same bug, too ... I have to click it twice to get the dropdown with closed pages, than click it once to have it disappear. And no, it's not double click I have to do, but 2 distinct clicks. They can be seconds apart, no problem.

PS: Skin is getting too blueish when None is selected as color scheme. When system color scheme is selected on Linux KDE4 ... I don't know what color scheme it uses, but it gets brown for me. I have nothing brown on my desktop... so this is really strange.

mgillespie 3. July 2009, 14:52

I thought the new skin was a bug, it's that much of a radical about turn from the recent skin work.

dualbore 3. July 2009, 14:52

oh well...actually, I like the new skin. With my custom system color scheme it looks grey-ish and light. Used to use light skins in the past...

Easy way:
Right-click tab bar → Customize → uncheck Enable Thumbnails in Tabs (will apply the change immediately)

In preferences:
PreferencesAdvancedTabs → uncheck Enable thumbnails in tabs (needs restart of Opera)

FFandR 3. July 2009, 14:55

ga what happened to the skin?

I can confirm that strange behavior even for Windows.

martintangsl 3. July 2009, 14:56

Both skins for the previous build and this build are beautiful. No matter which one will be the final default, I would like to have the other one placed on the community site so that good works wouldn't be wasted. And someone who likes the dark skin or bright skin can have a chance to choose.

fearphage 3. July 2009, 15:01

@staff: You forgot to include the native skin in the known issues list.... right?

mroma 3. July 2009, 15:02

New skin is awful!!
Colourless, bad contrast.

I got an eye ache after I looked at the preferences dialog.

Only one thing is great - new "Go" button.

Z1-AV69 3. July 2009, 15:03

The skin changes from last build are a huge step in the wrong direction, sry.
I'll keep the old one and just take over the new speeddial icon.

Edit: After a sharper look, the dialog tabs are ok actually, but the overall color changes are bad.

mtaki14 3. July 2009, 15:03

It seems like the new skin is washed out :frown:
I like the blue highlight when you do a mouse-over over background tabs though:cool:

ToHtorrent 3. July 2009, 15:06

please fix scroll!
way to reproduce:
1) http://yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=df
2) scroll down with mouse wheel
3) scroll up with mouse wheel
scrollbag should stuck.

Or it is just me?

by the way, the new theme is TOO BRIGHT! Liked the previous one.

Galileo 3. July 2009, 15:08

I wouldn't mind to light the skin from the previews snapshot a bit so it wouldn't be that dark but the new skin is like 2-3x lighter. I hope that you will change it to something closer to the one from the previews snapshot.

Very nice updated standard Skin.
I liked this black stuff never.
But the native Skin still not native
