Opera Desktop Team

New snapshot, new possibilities

Hey
We are currently working on major improvements to the Unite proxy servers, but to achieve that we also needed to do some fixes in the client.
Now we will continue to test the Opera Unite infrastructure fixes internally and hopefully deploy the fixes on the live server soonish :-)

We are also continuing on polishing Opera 10 so it will become the most stable release eva :ninja:

Highlights
  • Work on new Unite proxy (client part)
  • Crash logging is working on Mac
  • More bugfixing, stability work and skin work

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Zotlan 21. July 2009, 14:34

On linux the bar that holds the button for the thumbnails in tabs thing does not go away after disabling that feature. Really ugly when you have your tabs at the bottom.

TriMN 21. July 2009, 14:38

Ooooh, I got zombie Opera on my Mac :D

It needs to remain even when disabling tab thumbnails to maintain even margins above and below the address bar.

sebt 21. July 2009, 14:50

Nice.. but will the zoom bug (high CPU at zooms other than 100% on some pages) and the back/forward history bug (JS makes meaningless history markers so have to click "back 4+ time on some pages to actually go "back") be fixed soon?

Seb

piroxicam 21. July 2009, 14:59

bug:

the button border's top line should be visible.

Bill_P 21. July 2009, 15:00

color schemes in qt4/x64bit are still wrong for "Opera standard"

eldarien 21. July 2009, 15:01

Opera still not usable with black backgrounds (Native skin)...

lavael 21. July 2009, 15:03

Yeay, cool. I'm awaiting you guys to clean up the Qt4 Native skin too.
I really want to see my Opera fully integrated with my desktop.

patkoscsaba 21. July 2009, 15:05

Even when the tab bar is at the bottom of the screen? That doesn't seem to make sense. It's not so bad on lightly colored pages where it kind of blends in but on pages with a dark background it's quite jarring.

Guille 21. July 2009, 15:07

I'll have my shotgun for the zombie processes

eldarien 21. July 2009, 15:10

Bug: try to drag any tab to main toolbar (don't forget press shift after start dragging) - a new button appears, but it is smaller then it should be.

imarooned 21. July 2009, 15:12

Please, fix the skin problem with shrinking status bar when changing the icon size to 90% !

It doesn't occur with any other skin except your beautiful default Opera Standard :/

Remember that before final release it should be top flight. With old status bar it was very good but now with a simple bug is looks like made with a lick and a promise.

nahtanoj999 21. July 2009, 15:14

I'm still having the problem where pressing enter to select an item in a combo box causes the form to submit. This was fixed in beta 1, but it seems to have come back.

patkoscsaba 21. July 2009, 15:16

Screenshot: http://imagebin.org/56668
Here are some skin bugs:
- the old reported bug (I don't have it's number) about the bottom-left corner of the menu button is still present
- extra-space-separator when thumbnails are disabled has a lighter color than the rest of the skin
- all fields in which you can type should have the same size. In the screenshot you can see that a textfield is higher than a combo ... it looks strange.

NiLok 21. July 2009, 15:18

The Lounge in my Opera Unite doesn't seem to work. I mean - nobody can log on the chat. When it was first introduced it worked like two times, after I've downloaded later snapshots no one could log on since. I try various settings (with and without UPnP) but nothing helps. Any ideas?

Oh, I forgot: I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.7. and the latest Opera snapshot.

Morphdreamer 21. July 2009, 15:22

On the skin front, Can we get some translucency on the tab bar ? Example firefox 3.7 screenshots....

Not in O10. But instead you could try this.

Tardio 21. July 2009, 15:24

There is also a missing option to sort by name folders in bookmarks.
We can ONLY sort by name ALL folders and files, an option to sort by name only one folder by a right click on it and choose "sort by name", like in Firefox.
I need this option !

You will work on it ?

It seems to me that the button could be removed leaving the background in place. Or the button should at least be switched to a transparent one so it's not visible when disabled.

EDIT: It appears that the thumbnail drag button disappears in Linux, but stays (faded) in Mac. Why is this?

Disabling thumbnails in tabs does not affect the size of the addressbar now :hat:
(in terms of looking, but still better)

Freeze: Scrolling on MySpace sites while loading is not working. After stopping the loading process all previous scrolling attempts happen at once.

Doesn't this belong to following Bug?:

Additional fix to Bug DSK-145040 (Autoscrolling disabled/panning stops working when 16 Flash objects are running)

tudsta 21. July 2009, 15:56

Noticed the changes in capitalization of menu items, now in sentence case, which is just plain wrong. Aside, there are a few items still inconsistent.

It looks like Opera has been updated to the Windows 7 UI Guidelines.

Originally posted by Windows User Experience Interaction Guidelines:

Use title-style capitalization for titles, sentence-style capitalization for all other UI elements.

Surprisingly, most of Opera's Window title bar text have been converted to sentence capitalization. Window title bar text should be using title capitalization.

ebay.fr is taking 100% cpu available...
And it's not fully loading.

rriiicchh 21. July 2009, 16:08

Thanks for the new build, fingers crossed that it fixes the wmv on mac problem that I have having (although currently on a windows box so can't test straight away).

While I don't agree that it is "just plain wrong" on my windows box the menus are not sentence case.

It's eBay devs fault.. Not working on 9.64 too. You've to disable javascript temporary

Updating Page Cycler window to follow style of Pagebar.left

This might not be a very good idea. The pattern of dark and light on every line makes eyes very uncomfortable.
