Opera 10.0 Beta 3
By Haavard. Thursday, 13. August 2009, 08:00:00
Opera 10.0 Beta 3 is now available for download!
So what are we focusing on this time around?
Stability
We have been doing a lot of work on stability since beta 1 and beta 2, which means that this is likely one of our most stable releases ever. Keep reporting those crashes, though! We want to make Opera even more stable for the final version.
Opera in your language
This beta has also been translated into nearly 40 languages, so give it a spin and look for any problems with the available translations (please see the list of known issues). Let us know about any problems you encounter with the translations through comments here or in the beta forum, and through the Bug Report Wizard. With your help, we can ensure that Opera works great with all supported languages.
Visuals
On the visual site, the skin has received further facelifts, including a new attention state design where a dot tells you if a page is unviewed. Visual tabs can also be placed to the left or right, which is especially useful for widescreen monitors.

Opera Unite and beta 3?
Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about Opera Unite!
It might not be part of beta 3, but we have still been working hard on improving it. So for those of you who want to test that, please download one of the builds below instead of the official beta 3. These builds are basically the same as beta 3, only with Unite included.
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

opera:config#Network|AllowCrossDomainAccess
I was wondering how this affects CrossDomain access with XMLHttpRequests, and what is required to get them to work.
As always another great release

Btw. Strange behaviour Opera with Unite. Graphics can't load on DT... Release without unite doesn'a have this problem. After time I reload it's everytnig alright

Look at the menu bar, there are two! This happens when it expands the search box, change box shortcuts while, etc..!

We have a SSO (single sign on) login site which forwards to the real site, after login. So if you call a certain site and no valid session is available for you, you will be redirected to the SSO-site, after logging in you are redirected to the site you originally have called.
For some reason since the previous snapshot (or maybe since some snapshots before) Opera comes in a loop:
1. Calling a site without session -> redirect to SSO site works.
2. Logging in works, too. But after that the SSO site (HTTPS) tries to redirect to a HTTP site and shows a warning. After choosing "continue", the last site is called again with the warning HTTPS->HTTP and so on...
It definiteley worked in one of the previous snapshots...
Has someone a similar problem?

They seem relatively important since this is the first time opera has styled xml and rss feeds at all. Seems optimal that they'd work properly.

Preferences-Advanced-Browsing-Show_window_menu - It should say "Show 'Window' menu in Menu Bar" or something to increase clarity.
On opera:* pages keyboard shortcut for Zoom is not working. Intentional?
Print preview: keyboard shortcut for zoom makes Opera "unzoom" (DSK-257118).
"Create search" is available in right click menu in source viewer (DSK-260122).
"Synchronization disabled" in Status Bar - please remove if user is not using Opera Link.
Compare Error page ( http://no.page.com/ ) in 9.6 and new one. Old one looks more professional.
Opera Chat: When you go offline, wrong status sign (Online) stays next to server name (forum topic).

What? I've stared at that image now like 5 times, still can't find anything wrong with it. Unless you mean that the Menu is enabled, but the button is still there, I noticed that too.
Is the slowness of the site (and never completes, some images never load, etc) because all 100 Opera users (joke) are downloading Beta3, or is it something else?

The other 2 icons, new tabs and undo/recycle bin, don't have anything that makes them look like they should be resting on some other surface. I think changing that icon would be optimal. Maybe a sideways pointing arrow "-->" with no tab part around it. Just throwing out ideas.
EDIT: I just noticed in the last 2 shots the close button has switched sides (like Anakin). Is that OS X only or is that a coming change to all? Sounds scary.

Opera still crashes sometimes when loading http://football365.com
Other than those two Opera is great for me, but of course those two occur 2 or 3 times a day on bad days.

This explains alot, Hicks seems to be focusing on Mac, at the expense of Windows look and feel. On a Mac, there is no "menu bar", so the Panels button looks fine, however on Windows if you hide the menu bar, you have that pig-ugly thing hanging around at the side of the screen that stinks of a Windows afterthought...

and it seems that the result is different than before? The overall score remains the same 6/11
Max Connections (HTTP/1.1): 20 (or 19) was 60
Cache Resource Redirects: yes was no

Unite is not compatible with typical corporate security concerns (such as commercial data leakage prevention).

1) Opera already running -> link opens
2) Opera not running -> Opera starts but opens only the saved session, not the link I clicked in the mail
XP SP3
Can anyone confirm?

Also, I'm not sure if the trash can icon is very intuitive. I think newbies wouldn't know the purpose of that icon. On the whole, great work. Does this mean we are not going to see any more new features before Final and that we are only working on the stability now ?
I was hoping to see search suggestions implemented in the search bar before final.

regression began with build 1679
9.2 shortcuts
ctrl-alt-w <> alt-ctrl-w
do it slowly, 1 keypress at a time
1. ctrl
2. alt
3. w
vs
1. alt
2. ctrl
3. w
one good reason to change to <Opera Standard>
would be interesting to do a poll on people who still use 9.2 keyboard s'cuts
eg.
ctrl-alt-shift-w = close other windows
ctrl-alt-t = show transfers

On Windows Alt+Shift switches the keyboard layout/language settings (what you also can do if you the tiny keyboard next to the sys tray). But when you click Alt when Opera is focused Opera immediately reacts by opening the menu, which means you get the menu unwanted, and you can't switch the keyboard layout (because Opera already handles the Alt click)
The *nix version has also a problem with the "special" key's, when I click Ctrl+Esc to open KSysguard, I close KSysguard, and start to scroll in the Opera window, it thinks control is still pressed, and so it does zoom, instead of just scroll.
Edit:
Never mind about the *nix problem, seems to be fixed in this build/beta, but older builds had this behavior.
Edit2:
Thanks illiad
