Opera 10.0 Release Candidate
By Haavard. Tuesday, 25. August 2009, 11:00:00
Opera 10.0 has reached the release candidate stage.
What this means is that Opera 10.0 should be considered to be in a stable state code-wise, and that only selected fixes will be added if necessary. Apart from those (if any), the RC should be considered ready for release testing for Opera 10.0.

Perhaps the most obvious change in this RC is the new application icon, designed by Oleg Melnychuk. The red O will continue to represent Opera, but it has received a major facelift. It is also available in bigger sizes that before for Windows and Mac, so that you can view it in all its glory on your desktop.
The document icon has also been updated.
Note to Mac and Windows users
This RC will no longer use the beta preferences on Mac, but will upgrade your old 9.64 preferences. Windows has been switched over to the non-beta installation path as well.
Help us find the world's slowest connection
Before you start testing the RC, we would like you to meet Odd & Even, two brothers from a family with good strong packing traditions. They have been hired to pack Web pages for Opera, and now they're on a mission to fix the world's slowest connection. If you know a place with a slow internet connection, let them know in the forums!

installer says "Error: a later version is already installed"
The installation must be forced.
Edit. Oh, it was the version downgrade from 10.10 to 10.00. Nevermind.

Congrats on reaching the RC stage. I'm waiting till the final version is released to start pimping Opera 10 to my friends.
The new logo looks decent, although i was hoping for something completely different than a 'O' .

Opera was bouncing in the dock but at a rate approximately 2-3 times faster than normal and the autoupdater icon briefly appeared. I then clicked on Opera in the dock while it was still bouncing and a kernal panic occured.
After a restart Opera crashes on launch.
I'm going to try reinstalling it but there is a really quite serious bug in there somewhere.
Update: Crashes on launch even after totally updating and removing all the old preferences files. Works on a new User account though. I think the Kernal Panic that Opera caused has pretty much destroyed my main account on that computer as all applications seem to be having major problems now (good job I have it all backed up - but still not good).

Only few months ago I had 40kbit connection, that was pain! I widh I had Opera Turbo then. Luckily now I have 256kbit, which is still poor, but usable.

Also, when i click on the Link Icon in the status bar, normally it used to show the configure or status options earlier. Now clicking on it doesn't do anything. Only the right click works.

Ok, gotcha this is because you went from the unite branch 10.10 to non unite 10.00. If you had upgraded a non unite build or if you waited for a unite snapshot in the future you wouldn't see this issue.
Edit: Just read your edit!

Should we 10.10 users install this RC or wait for a 10.10 new build?

Yes link is not working here (USB installation) and clicking the synchronization status icon is not bringing the context menu.

If visual tabs are on the right, and all extra buttons like "closed tabs" are removed from the tab panel, then a strange gap is appeared on the top:
I very excited that RC is out, but I belief this should be fixed until release!

No, waiting for a(nother) Unite build is up to you, but I am pretty sure Unite (10.10) will remain in Beta for probably a month or more after 10 is released, so you probably won't see any "RC" of them/it for awhile.
Edit: It keeps the same build as previous (ie B1729, etc) Because it doesn't overwrite Opera.dll (presumably because Existing > Installing versions).
So in many ways, it's not actually "downgrading" to Opera 10, might have to do a clean install, or install it seperately and then copy over preferences and such (or copy over files from new install to old install)
