Opera 10.0 Release Candidate

Opera 10.0 has reached the release candidate stage.

What this means is that Opera 10.0 should be considered to be in a stable state code-wise, and that only selected fixes will be added if necessary. Apart from those (if any), the RC should be considered ready for release testing for Opera 10.0.

Perhaps the most obvious change in this RC is the new application icon, designed by Oleg Melnychuk. The red O will continue to represent Opera, but it has received a major facelift. It is also available in bigger sizes that before for Windows and Mac, so that you can view it in all its glory on your desktop.

The document icon has also been updated.

Note to Mac and Windows users

This RC will no longer use the beta preferences on Mac, but will upgrade your old 9.64 preferences. Windows has been switched over to the non-beta installation path as well.

Help us find the world's slowest connection

Before you start testing the RC, we would like you to meet Odd & Even, two brothers from a family with good strong packing traditions. They have been hired to pack Web pages for Opera, and now they're on a mission to fix the world's slowest connection. If you know a place with a slow internet connection, let them know in the forums!

Every time I start dragonfly with this build, I keep getting the following message:
"The protocol version of Opera does not match the one which Opera Dragonfly is using.
Try to load a compatible version?"

(I did try it with different sites)

Is anyone else getting this?

GroovyMicky Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:01:05 PM

Ctrl+Tab: No marker for background active tabs as in 9.x ?

DSK-257135 is back: singinst.org button (bottom left) not clickable. It was fixed in last couple of builds!

Source view: scrolling up is laggy compared to scrolling down.

Tools-Notes: Ctrl+F not working at all.

Chat:
- Saving logs (File-Save As) all options except .txt produces empty files.
- (Online) status wrong after user goes offline:

Icon color is tooo saturate, the smallest size is particulary annoying in system tray and/or quick launch (Windows).

One common observation - Opera has the user interface for editing keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures, but it's still missing for toolbars and menus. All of them have selection menu in preferences window, but only keyboard and mouse options have the interface for editing them.

Rijk, ok thank you for this precision.
So, a RC version with Unite will come in some days ?
Sorry but i'm not english so i'm not totally sure to understand wink

But, for the final version, there will be a first version without Unite, and another with Unite or only one version ?

Yes.

EDIT: To be clearer, a new Unite build will likely appear in the relatively near future. I was not meaning to imply that an RC for Unite is just about to appear.

10.00 will not have unite. 10.10 will come out later with unite. All versions after 10.10 will have unite.

That's not a bug, adding text there would also make it show on the panel toolbar. But the usability of that dialog can of course be improved.

Right-click > Customize > Reset toolbar to defaults. Or Tools > Appearance > Buttons, click on the toolbar you want to modify, click 'reset' in the dialog.

Correct observation, though hardly relevant in the context of the Opera 10 release candidate smile
The hardcore Opera power users directly edit the ini files involved. Best source of information: http://operawiki.info. Slightly less hardcore users use things like the buttonmaker: http://nontroppo.org/tools/buttonmaker/

Lets try this URL again

http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=2838179

I get the

"If the next page does not load in the next 30 seconds, please click here."

message and then nothing happens - clicking on this link does not work and trying to open the redirect link in new tab results an empty page - at least on Windows that is.

Am I doing something wrong, is there something wrong with the site or can this be browser's fault?

You need to turn on automatic rederection.
Tools->Preferences->advanced->network

It still can thought to be relevant on any new release, if it is not implemented yet. Of cource there is always an option to edit files manually, but curent state of this part of the UI is inconsistent or "half-done" with one part having an interface and other one not having it. Other thing not helping this is the "storage architecture" of these settings - different setups can be (re)named from setup window, but the name of the setup is not visible in file name, but it is stored inside the file, which always adds one little complicating step in finding the right ini-file.

This does not help - and toggling the "non-compliant server 100 continue" does not help either.

EDIT: It is not about the browser - if anyone has the problems with sourceforge.net, then it is better to turn off content blocking specifically for 'sourceforge.net' -> SOLVED

Thanks for response. I am focused in note itself. Edit - Find... is grayed out.

Also is it normal that icons in 'Windows Native' skin are blended into background, but some icons in 'Opera Standard' skin are not, they stand out from background...? What is the logic?

I am not making a request - just tried to point this thing out. Sorry for being misinterpreted.

FataL Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:54:25 PM

I hope this pretty icon will be changed before Opera 20 release. bigsmile

itakingiteasy Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:54:48 PM

Still not able to drag files from UNIX file mangers to the file upload input field. In QT3 version - at all; in QT4 version - you have *only one* chance to do this: by pressing ctrl-f5 and managing to drag fast enough while pages are reloading, then file path *MAYBE* be pasted into field. With no enquoting of course. And after loading - you have no chances at all. duh.

pixpusher Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:55:34 PM

the new icon is a huge improvement, but could use some more work. the highlights are too intensive. i think the logo as used on my.opera has a really good range of red.

Markymarkrich Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:55:44 PM

Lost my Synchronisation and therefore no bookmarks on a fresh install.

So alone....so very alone.....

Martin Tangmartintangsl Tuesday, August 25, 2009 2:56:46 PM

The red icon is outstanding, and ............ but sorry to say it's burning eyes. sad Recent color changes of the UI seem to be too extreme.

What the damn possible point of having this so *intentional*? Are you hate me so much? Or all your unix users? Why should i navigate all damn way to the file thorugh file selector while having it already opened in file manager window ready to drag?

bug BUG bug

ID: DSK-262433
Description: "Reload Image" doesn't work [related thread]
How to reproduce: Open a page with lots of images (or a few really big ones) so that it takes a while to load. Press stop before it finishes. Right-click an image that hasn't loaded yet. Press "Reload image". Nothing happens.

Note: Sorry for posting this again, but the topic I previously posted to quickly became irrelevant, so I reposted here.

Vasil Dinkovsmartmenus Tuesday, August 25, 2009 3:07:45 PM

OK, I installed over my 9.64 directory and the installer said it would do an upgrade but when I started the newly installed Opera 10.0 RC everything is as if I did a clean install - I mean my 9.64 preferences were not preserved!

As far as I can see, the problem might be that I had my 9.64 installation configured to use a single profile for all users (and my profile directory is in the install directory in "Program Files"), however, I suppose the 10.0 RC installer has created a new profile directory for me in "Documents and Settings\user" and is using it instead of my old profile.

Do you have any idea how to fix the issue?

cootue Tuesday, August 25, 2009 3:11:53 PM

I love new icon!

Galileo Tuesday, August 25, 2009 3:13:00 PM

Did you use the msi installer? though i think the msi installer should respect the single profile. Find operaprefs_default.ini on the opera folder and change Multi User= to 0.

This type of question is usually impossible to answer. Of course there will be continued development and new features will be added, just not in 10.0...

HotShotbg Tuesday, August 25, 2009 3:18:00 PM

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but when you hide the Menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc.) a button for the Menu appears on Tab bar but when Opera is closed and opened again this button for the Menu is missing. I can't find it even in the Appearance settings (buttons list).

Can someone fix it!
You can make a custom button for it but it's really annoying.

JS execution speed seems to improve by about 100ms with every build, at least according to the SunSpider tests (this build scored 5,100+ms). While this is fantastic, it would be brilliant if there could be a quantum jump from 5k+ to, say, 3k ms. Or am I simply nit-picking? smile
