Opera 10.0 Release Candidate
By Haavardhaavard. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 11:00:00 AM
What this means is that Opera 10.0 should be considered to be in a stable state code-wise, and that only selected fixes will be added if necessary. Apart from those (if any), the RC should be considered ready for release testing for Opera 10.0.

Perhaps the most obvious change in this RC is the new application icon, designed by Oleg Melnychuk. The red O will continue to represent Opera, but it has received a major facelift. It is also available in bigger sizes that before for Windows and Mac, so that you can view it in all its glory on your desktop.
The document icon has also been updated.
Note to Mac and Windows users
This RC will no longer use the beta preferences on Mac, but will upgrade your old 9.64 preferences. Windows has been switched over to the non-beta installation path as well.
Help us find the world's slowest connection
Before you start testing the RC, we would like you to meet Odd & Even, two brothers from a family with good strong packing traditions. They have been hired to pack Web pages for Opera, and now they're on a mission to fix the world's slowest connection. If you know a place with a slow internet connection, let them know in the forums!

Not sure why there's a checkbox for enabling choosing a Speed Dial background image? It's a wasted action, I think.
OSX build looks great!

I'm noticing some nicknames I'd modified while using the Opera v10 betas have the correct URLs but the titles displaying in the address drop-down still have the old titles of the old nickname.
For example, I had an old nickname for "wp" for Wikipedia. I changed the "wp" nickname to Washington Post when using the v10 beta3. When the RC build sync'd bookmarks, "wp" points to the proper WaPo web site, but the title in the address bar still shows as "Wikipedia."
Can't tell if this is an RC issue or an Opera Link problem.

No it isn't, because the other way, you would have to erase the path to the file to disable it, but you might want to keep the path there (disabling it momentarily, or perhaps editing the image, enable again when done) Although, I think if the file path is blank, "choose" should still be usable, which automatically selects the checkbox but thats more difficult (to code) than the way they did it.Galileo # Tuesday, August 25, 2009 6:52:26 PM

Again, disable thumbnails in tabs and you will see a white line appearing under the active tab. Its not mean to be there.

Opera is my only browser and I have been using every single announced build under XP SP3 and under Windows 7. And I have a feeling that nobody at the Opera Desktop Team is using Windows 7 (or Vista)!
1. Deprecated file dialog:
http://files.myopera.com/galu83/files/filedialog.png
I know that's definitely not a showstopper and that the OS integration with Win7 (jumplists!) may be out of scope for O10, but really, it's the ONLY app that STILL uses this XP-style, cheap looking dialog.
2. I praise the default (non-native) skin, but "native" skin is still shockingly unpolished and, in fact, obviously non-native under Win7 - especially that it looks good under XP (Luna & custom msstyles). Opera10 + natvie skin + "Aero" = Non-native pulldown menu rendering, non-native hovers, non-native , ugly icons etc. Vista-ish gradient doesn't make a native skin
3. "System color scheme" has nothing with system color scheme, shouldn't it be aware of Aero "windows color" settings (at least)? I hope that Opera 11 will focus on real UI integration for modern Windows OSes (and on Carakan)
Congrats on RC.

I dunno what its called but the "size-box" on the status-bar (100%) needs more space on the top. Its connected with the top-line of the status-bar. There should be just as much space as below it.
And again; get rid of the white line under the active tab when thumbnails in tabs are disabled. This bug is reported as DSK-261402: http://opera.remcol.ath.cx/bugs/index.php?action=bug&id=927

Still, if you put the clock right of the closed tabs button, the last digit gets cut off. This is the case for several snapshots already.

Is what makes that whole area look "normal" for me. (centered icons, normal spacing between buttons/items, etc)

Title bar icon:http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/599/screenshot1dao.png -
Panel icon (the title bar should appear this smooth imho):http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/4082/screenshot2o.png -
System tray icon (aside from the reverted fix for the icon background from a previous build, the icon is still the old icon):http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5246/screenshot3nst.png -
I have a feeling that the title bar pixelation will be noticeable for other common themes as well.

But I dont understand why Wingogi icon is not used :/ Its the best Opera icon I saw in the internet. A bigger version of it would look very good I think.

I have a gesture with "Show speed dial" as action.
Open tab with for example page1.
Do my mouse gesture so page1 -> speed dial.
When I now click on a speed dial page (page2) then page1 is shown for a short time before page2 is loaded.
Can anyone confirm? (WinXP SP3)
