Opera 10.0 Release Candidate 2

This is the second Release Candidate for Opera 10.0.

We are still on track for a release on Tuesday, but we have managed to fix a few important crash bugs, and also have a couple of fixes for pages that never stop loading ("NSL"). Please let us know if the "NSL problem" has improved or not!

Apart from that, we have fixed some icon issues on Windows and Unix, and widgets should be working again after upgrading from Opera 9. There are also a few other fixes, so take a look at the changelog for more details.

We do not have an updated Unite build this time around since we are focusing on getting Opera 10.0 out the door. The build will not be available as an automatic update either, since it's Friday.

Note: Some Unix builds may be missing, but they may be uploaded later

Highlights
  • A couple of possible fixes for pages that never stop loading (NSL)
  • Stability fixes
  • Native skin fixes
  • Widgets should work when upgrading from 9.64
  • Icon fixes for Windows and Unix

What's NSL?

Thanks folks. Have a good weekend... assuming you won't be working to get this out all weekend smile

The compressed icon doesn't look that good on Windows. It's too pixelated on the edges. Please change it again.

The remaining obvious quirks from RC1 have been fixed. My guess is that this build will become the Opera 10 official release. up

Crash on spatial navigation win xp sp3 as in http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=288436:

1. open http://www.mymovies.it/cinema/milano/ and wait it is completely loaded
2. press the END key (moves to the bottom of the page)
3. SPATIAL NAVIGATE downwards (that is, press SHIFT+DOWN ARROW - needs opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableExtendedKeyboardShortcuts turned ON) to crash opera

Thank you very much for this new RC smile
---

It is about the Mac Skin :

and on the website http://www.lefil.com I can't connect whereas on the Opera snapshots which are not RC I can connect.

Sasquatch Friday, August 28, 2009 3:21:16 PM

Please fix bug DSK-261395 before the final release. It's extremely annoying that I can't even use copy/paste or use spellchecker for a few times inside Opera without bringing it to a halt. Pages won't load, back and forward in history of a tab gives a white page (or whatever colour you set for background in Opera settings), mouse gestures stop working, nothing works anymore. Closing Opera with the X only closes it half, I have to use kill -9 `pidof opera` or killall -9 opera to fully shut down Opera.

This is on Linux, Ubuntu 9.04 Qt4.

Haavardhaavard Friday, August 28, 2009 3:21:56 PM

harlekinmond: Could you try to be a bit more specific when reporting problems?

What does "not gray"/"not blue" mean in the screenshot?

What do you mean by "can't connect"? Do you get any error messages?

Again, please try to explain problems in sufficient detail, so that it is possible for others to understand what you are trying to say.

nice!! cheers

Also I noticed the Spell Check Option dissapeared from the Edit Menu! Tough for me it isn't a problem, I disabled Spell Checking using opera:config.

My university is extremely picky about P2p connection and for some reason everytime i start opera on first start (i have to go through login process), i get redirected as having P2p. Is it cuz i have 10 tabs and all of them are tryin to gain access at same time?
cuz, it is really annoying, since i get kicked off for 30 minutes after redirection. They are using blue3 for login purposes.
I have to start internet explorer and have to login through it on first startup, and then i can use opera without hiccups...IT's just that the Initial login can not be done through Opera or else i get redirected for having P2p (i don have any torrent running or downloads resuming whatsoever). I didn't had this problem with 9.64. PLZ HELP!

@ haavard:

Please excuse me. Here are some screenshots:

- From opera:config:

I hope it's clear on the screenshots. Sorry again for my first (and too short) entry.

Brian HuismanGreyWyvern Friday, August 28, 2009 3:27:45 PM

Looking forward to finally upgrading my mail from 9.64 smile

Galnospoke Friday, August 28, 2009 3:29:27 PM

IMHO much better then RC1. RC1 was crap.

Sérgio Capeladurtro Friday, August 28, 2009 3:29:43 PM

Content unblocking in site preferences does not work for localhost (bug 254526).

1) Install widget http://widgets.opera.com/widget/10111/
2) add content block rule *deezer.com/*
3) make site preference for localhost and uncheck enable content blocking on content tab.
4) open widget and no player will be loaded thus no working widget despite localhost site preferences

Harlekin Mondharlekinmond Friday, August 28, 2009 3:30:29 PM

sorry Haavard.

For my screenshot : In fact the Mac Skin looks not finished because the pannel is not gray like the other parts of the Mac Skin and the yellow icon should be blue like the folders.

For the website : I can't connect me to my account because the website says that the access is denied but if I use snapshots which are not RC I can connect and the access is not denied.

Sorry for my English, I'm French o

After browsing my.opera for some time: it seems that the "NSL-Problem" is finally fixed for this page. smile

Haavardhaavard Friday, August 28, 2009 3:42:05 PM

hexplor: You changed the icon size in the appearance dialog?

Daviddavidviolin Friday, August 28, 2009 3:43:00 PM

Regression from earlier builds: When browsing Facebook Photo albums, previous builds until the first RC, pressing the arrows on the keyboard back, and forward, would work as going to next picture (next arrow) and the previous picture (back arrow). This stopped working since the RC.
A minor detail perhaps, but I know you guys at Opera are perfectionists right? smile

Titanium GerbilTitaniumGerbil Friday, August 28, 2009 3:46:13 PM

When you reduce the icon size, the 'new tab' button still has that black underline that extends too far and overlaps the last tab (more noticeable when the last tab is not active).

Robbiemoirob Friday, August 28, 2009 3:46:25 PM

Thanks for update. Thought I'd try out the native skin as it's getting a lot of work on.

Noticed that in Opera Standard skin there is a gap between the open/close panel button and the first tab

With Native skin there is an overlap of the first tab over the open/close panel button

Haavardhaavard Friday, August 28, 2009 3:46:49 PM

davidviolin: Please be more specific. Pressing the arrows on the keyboard does nothing in 9.6 either. What are you pressing, what is supposed to happen, and what actually happens?

Hans Bendiksenhansbendiksen Friday, August 28, 2009 3:49:38 PM

Nice! bigsmile

2 out of 3 of my visual bugs have been fixed!! yes

Suntana Friday, August 28, 2009 3:50:05 PM

Alright! Awesome! The NSL problem has been addressed! yes I didn't even think it was officially even acknowledged to exist, much less that it'd ever be addressed.

I sure hope this RC will squash that problem. headbang
This would seriously go far ... light years bigsmile into really having Opera 10 earn the title as the Most Stable EVER.

NicoHellbillyDeluxe Friday, August 28, 2009 3:53:44 PM

I just realized that the small white line between the active tab and the address bar (which appears when Visual Tabs are disabled) is finally gone. Thanks a lot for fixing that. This one was bugging me for a long time smile.

RC2 seems to be really rock-solid so far, great job!

Philee Friday, August 28, 2009 3:57:11 PM

lively Friday, August 28, 2009 3:57:30 PM

@davidviolin Confirm!
@haavard: It worked all the way upto beta 3, i think and it stopped working on RC.

Basically, you go facebook and look @ a photo album click on the photo and after that you can jus use the arrow keys to go to previous or next photo in that album.
It works fine in safari, firefox, IE, chrome etc...

Also the x.facebook.com posting on wall or composing message problem is still not fixed.

Grasli Friday, August 28, 2009 3:57:52 PM

Yeeeha! Finally. The white line is finally gone when thumbnails in tabs are disabled. Thank you! Thank you so much Opera Team!! bigsmile (Note: it still says unfixed in the bug report: DSK-261402).

Other things:
- The "Closed Tabs"-button is still uncentered (off-center).

- The status-bar should be 1 pixel higher or something. Look at the top of the "size-box" (100%). Its connected with the top-line of the status-bar..

Anyway, thank you for the hard work Opera Team. Opera 10 will be great! bigsmile

Bancorbancor Friday, August 28, 2009 3:59:47 PM

You asked for widgets, and I tried once more to use touchtheSky" (release 1.14), which since the first 10.00 Alpha rel. wasn't able to operate the access to its reference site when clicking "detailed forecast" in the bottom of the "Forecast" tab.
Yet, still in this last 10.0 RC2, it doesn't link to anything, instead of to the requested page of "wunderground.com" site, as it did correctly till 9.64 release.
I don't know whether it is a problem due to the widget or to the browser, but it happens, for me at least.
Can some other Opera user confirm this problem, or it's only my fault?
Anyway, thank you for the new release.

ouzowtfouzoWTF Friday, August 28, 2009 4:01:53 PM

Thanks for the new RC!
Thanks for the NSL fixes!
Thanks for fixing the white line!
Thanks for being so great!

yes cheers up love

ElectriX2 Friday, August 28, 2009 4:05:33 PM

This page still causes NSL:
http://cdr.cz/
It's a way more annoying if you have it as one of speed-dial shortcuts. sad

You asked for widgets, and I tried once more to use touchtheSky" (release 1.14), which since the first 10.00 Alpha rel. wasn't able to operate the access to its reference site when clicking "detailed forecast" in the bottom of the "Forecast" tab.

I can confirm this problem

And about the CTRL-TAB (tab switch) window, I think it should have more suitable design for this new skin, for me it looks very obsolete.

Thank you for another nice release! Keep up the good work! wink

technofunky Friday, August 28, 2009 4:07:02 PM

Thanks for this smile

Andrew Samandrewsam Friday, August 28, 2009 4:11:35 PM

Please fix DSK-261954 before release... let me check if RC 2 doesn't stall on my Kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.3. RC 1 halted the system so much ... Windows it works perfectly fine for me...

Thanks for the nice build!!

Serpher Friday, August 28, 2009 4:15:58 PM

Thanks smile

// EDIT
Hey, wheres Sync Icon gone?

Karolhexplor Friday, August 28, 2009 4:18:24 PM

@haavard my icon size is 100%
Closed tabs button is always overlapping on my install, new tab button overlaps only when closest tab is selected.

1. Go to www.facebook.com and log in
2. Browse any photo album.
3. Instead of clicking on each picture to navigate to the next, try using the arrows (back and forward) on the keyboard.
It used to work in Opera until the RC or Beta 3 I believe, and it works in all other browsers.

Haavardhaavard Friday, August 28, 2009 4:24:58 PM

davidviolin: It doesn't seem to be working in 9.6 either, so it isn't really relevant to the RC as such.

A question; is the "Closed tabs" button uncentered for you too? wink

Again: thank you so much for all the fixes, especially fixing the white line (the bug report still says unknown though). Thank you! bigsmile

random414 Friday, August 28, 2009 4:25:29 PM

Congrats for the RC2 release! yes

I now fully switched to Opera 10 from 9.6. smile bigsmile

Bugs I noticed:

1. Menu Button disappearing.
-click on File, Show Menu Bar (the Menu Bar correctly disappears and the Menu Button correctly appears)
-click on the Menu Button, and then go to Preferences...
-change the preferred language
-click OK
The Menu Button disappears. sad
To make it appear again I have to press Alt, then click Show Menu Bar, the Menu Bar appears, then click on File, Show Menu Bar.

2. Small design bug present both on the Native and Standard skin on Vista. The Info Panel has a border which surrounds the area where the Info about the page is displayed, while none of the other Panels have a this kind of border surrounding the area where the Links are displayed, the History, the Windows, Downloads and so on are displayed. sad

3. Nothing is displayed in the Thumbnail (regarding the Tab bar with Thumbnails enabled) until the page is completely loaded; for instance, I have 5-6 tabs opened with videos from different tubes and all are "blank" because none of the videos has fully loaded, and usually it takes up to 5-6 minutes to get rid of the first "blank". sad

I think that the Thumbnail should be "refreshed" ONCE after about 10-20 seconds from the moment the page starts to load, and ONCE when it finishes to fully load.

4.

It's also crashing in Vista. sad

Anyway, I hope that you guys can fix all these! bigsmile

Hi,

Thanks for this RC !

But two bugs I reported are still present :
- DSK-258473 : Opera crashes (on Windows) when URL is incorrect. For example, create a HTML file, and create a HTML link in this file with this URL : //google.com/search. Open this HTML file, click on the link. Oups. Bye bye Opera.

- DSK-262330 : too long to explain everything. For example, you've never set in Speed Dial higher than 4x3. Try 5x5, set slot 25. Type "25" in address bar, you'll be redirected to http://0.0.0.25. See bug report for more details smile

Well it stopped working after Beta 3. I remember it definitely worked in 9.6 when I last used it (before the 10.0 beta 1 came out). Perhaps Facebook has altered something. Strange anyways.
