Opera Desktop Team

Prompt Reporting

It's just too hard to find a good title for this blog post, so I used a random word generator to come up with one. It even almost makes sense. whistle

Anyway.. right

Here's another round of builds from the busy bees in the Desktop team. headbang

As for Opera Unite, we focused on improving how easy it is to find and start Unite. The Unite panel is open by default (for now) in clean installs, and we made it easier to install and start Unite applications from a web page. For that, we introduced version checking of the Unite applications.

Other than that, the Unite applications have been updated (and the Sonar testing application has been removed), and we have Core fixes for application discovery and encoding issues. So the applications should now work with files that have Russian or Chinese characters. up

Also, if you experienced problems with plug-ins on Mac in the last snapshot, that should be fixed now (still present on *nix, you'll get the fix next time 'round there).

Happy testing! wizard

Known Issues
  • No autoupdate since it's Friday
  • UNIX: Users of Qt 4.5.3 may experience difficulties with Qt4 packages (use a Qt3 package instead)

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Since the changelog is rather small than in previous Snapshots, I'll guess we see a Beta pretty soon wink.

Anyway: Thank you for our weekly fix smile

Did you read this, "Also, if you experienced problems with plug-ins on Mac in the last snapshot, that should be fixed now (still present on *nix, you'll get the fix next time 'round there)."

It relates to this change in the Mac section:
  • Reverted tweak to always use JavaScript direct execution (caused plugin problems)

That is your problem and the same fix needs to be applied on UNIX.

Granted we probably should have stuck it in the known issues, but at least it is mentioned. wink

When using 'Link Synchronization' I get the following error message:

"An error has occurred while parsing data from the Opera Link server"

Version: 10.10 Beta

Any solution for this?

"Other than that, the Unite applications have been updated (and the Sonar testing application has been removed)"
The applications are still called "services" on unite.opera.com (it's been 3 weeks) and sonar is still available on the site.
Can we have a date for the release of Opera 10.1 please ? It's been a month, now. Unite should have been a part Opera 10, it should have been its best new feature and now it's been a month.

Øzikzakatak Friday, October 9, 2009 4:51:40 PM

stream media still not working for me...awww

sorry to insist but would be soooooooo good if i could use smplayer for stream media.

There is no autoupdate for snapshots on Linux/UNIX. For more information on this read the "Why no snapshot auto-updates?" section of my recent blog post.

And then for an alternative solution, read this one.

netwolf Friday, October 9, 2009 5:04:40 PM

Media Player app still doesn't work for me: as soon as I add a folder (7 songs, only latin characters) and then open the site (admin...), Opera takes all CPU it can get and hangs until I'm finally able to stop the service.

Also, I can upgrade as often as I want without the "upgrade to newer version only" check kicking in.

Fixed some encoding issues

I'd like to know what issue this is. The bug I reported US-1176 ("FileStream#write ignores both charset argument and FileStream#encoding property") is still there.

wow this build eats CPU, i had to reboot, no way to kill it. I come back to 1810

TheBigBadWolfy Friday, October 9, 2009 6:24:36 PM

There is still problem with Opera window when Downloads Tab is open and 50% CPU load under Windows XP SP3.

If Downloads Tab is open and active (with, or without, active transfers) and some other window is moved across Opera window, CPU goes over 50% CPU load. Peaks are hit when Opera needs to refresh, and redraw, list of downloaded files.

Feed Widgets are still not working on this build. Check the widget on the address bar of this very page, or click on the blue icon that said widgetize on the bottom of the page to see.

The answer was given a few posts up: WIR.

After careful research, I found that this is a reference to the Weekly Intelligence Review, a clandestine meeting of Opera glitterati whose sole purpose is to decide when major releases should occur. It's invitation only, and obviously you're not invited.

If I download something like:

I can't go to "Advanced" when right clicking

L2D2 Friday, October 9, 2009 7:43:59 PM

I want to know how to uninstall Unite. I installed it after 10 release. At first it worked somewhat. Now I can't even get the Media Player to play----anything! I think I may have to completely uninstall Opera 10.10 in order to get rid of it.

Tell me when you have a version that works.

Soleen Friday, October 9, 2009 7:44:20 PM

Yeah, no solaris again, by the way what is the reason behind opera not working with Flash 10 on Solaris (Flash 9 works fine with opera)?

Thank you for new build.

L2D2 Friday, October 9, 2009 7:56:46 PM

What was strange to me was that Media Player played songs from my music folder (wouldn't open albums, though) when I first installed it, but will not play anything at all now. I find that puzzling and frustrating.
