Opera Desktop Team

Approaching 10.50 beta for Windows

We're not there quite yet, but we are close to releasing the official beta version of Opera 10.50 for Windows.

Please focus mostly on potential showstoppers. If there are any bugs that you believe are important enough to block a beta release, let us know. Take a look at the list of known issues first, though.

There likely will be Mac and Unix snapshots next week, but right now we're working overtime to get Windows ready for beta. Please keep your comments relevant to the Windows version this time around.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

LOVING the build frequency.

Will the development for different OS's stay out of sync beyond 10.5 or will they realign at some point?

I understand that Windows is your priority, but your Linux builds has gotten me pretty excited about the native GTK integration, and I can't wait for the Linux builds. Sigh!

Oh Yaeh! Finally Opera Link Works!!!!liked the merged buttons smile
But only i think that "O menu's" color is kinda too pink? smile Anyway, thank you for the work, desktop team! Tho its pity you worked on Sunday to release this build sad

    Galileo Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:47:54 PM

yes I don't know if this is known, if you have opera to continue from last time and you leave tabs minimized they won't appear normal when you start opera again unless you restore them or choose maximize all. And DSK-274443 is not fixed for me.

    IgorFeyer Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:49:34 PM

RSS doens't available in menu and doens't work!!!

Negi SpringfieldNegi Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:50:11 PM

I've discovered an annoyance. I like being able to "allow browser with no tabs open". However, in this version, when I right click on the gray background to use a mouse gesture, the context menu opens immediately without letting me gesture. Can I turn this "feature" off?

Also, the big red O button is annoying in its current position. I'd like to move it to the top bar. I (since I've been using opera since 7.00) keep my tab bar on the bottom, where it belongs. I like the single-button menu, but it certainly does not belong at the bottom.

    Sertse Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:50:25 PM

Part of me thinks Opera know it has the fastest browser atm, but it doesn't really "count" until it is officially released. So it is in their interest to fix all the issues stopping it from being released, and release it something else comes up..

    ouzowtfouzoWTF Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:53:47 PM

There is still sometimes the problem with the "ghost window" appearing:

When you close the "ghost window" clicking on the [X], then the normal window will close too. It worked for me rightclicking on the taskbar icon of the "ghost window" and close it there. But still very annoying and a SHOWSTOPPER.

    My BUG list: http://my.opera.com/BS-Harou/blog/opera-10-5-b3228-bugs

    Worst bugs (showstoppers)(Win XP SP3):
    - Click on mouse-wheel for fast scrolling is buggy (the page is scrolling only for a while and than it stops working, or it doesn't scroll at all)

    - When "Show menu bar" is off there is big empty spaces between windows panel and tab panel, or sometimes when "Show menu bar" is on, the menu bar is over tab bar...

    - Click "save page as" and click cancel. repeat. and we get duplicate file types in "save as dialog" in file type listbox.

    - Mouse gesture for new tab open Blank page instead of speed dial, when its used on any other page than speed dial.

    - When "Show menu bar" is on the menu bar in WIN XP has uggly design (different than usually)

    - Arrows on sides of horizontal scroller (and the bottom arrow of vertical scroller), are tending wrong, when mouse is on part of scrroll bar (not on the arrow buttons)

    - http://mapy.cz/ doesn't work (it's something like google maps, and lots of czech people use it!)

    Avola Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:56:51 PM

yes Flash player issues are finally gone! cheers
I liked the combined password/forward button though.

    ouzowtfouzoWTF Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:58:53 PM

Still its not possible to login/go fast forward using MOUSE 5 like in 10.10 (REGRESSION)

Kai OckendorfOckendorf Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:59:26 PM

    IMO here are showstopper:

    1. When you go back from a page to speeddial, the favicon from the last page is shown in the speeddial-tab and the adressfield.

    2. http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/nationalmannschaft/2010/02/07/em-2012-auslosung/der-qualifikationsgruppen-mit-loew-bierhoff-zwanziger.html
can´t view the pictures at the top of the page by clicking the back/forward arrows!! A lot of german users read this page.

    3. http://www.nhl.com/
click on any club-symbol on the top and go to "Schedule" & "Standings" on the right side. The following is displayed with a big bar!
Edit: The last time this page worked fine was with Opera 9.64 bigeyes

When I enable the menu bar, it looks like this since a few builds:

Tab bar is overwritten by a really ugly menu bar.

Very serious problem! Because really masses of germans surf on this page (not talking about quality...) this could be a reason for them not using Opera!

Tested this one, first placed the tabbar back on top (I normaly have it on the right side), and enabled the menu bar but it looked fine. Disabled the menu bar again, set the tabbar back on the right side, enabled the menu bar again, and it was placed on top of the address bar.

So I can confirm this bug, in a slightly different manner

did i miss something? if i try to search locally (ctrl+f) on a page, the search term is sent to google?

    Arguggi Sunday, February 7, 2010 2:14:50 PM

Getting near to 300 ms on sunspider with new build, but with Peacekeeper i'm getting 200 points less then 3222 and every test is slower.

BTW, why is this build number 3228 and not 3224?

    ouzowtfouzoWTF Sunday, February 7, 2010 2:15:19 PM

Another SHOWSTOPPER is, that while using a different skin (even done on a 10.5 build) when restarting Opera it looks something like this:

    For example using this skin.

    I'm on Win7 x64, I forgot this to say.

Got your show stopper right here:
    http://i50.tinypic.com/346nzfo.png
New Opera build leaks GDI objects like a sieve. Submitted a bug about that yesterday on the last release before this, where i managed to get the GDI object count up to 10000 within 2 hours of completely normal usage.

(I really hope i don't need to explain exactly why that is a show stopper.)
