Opera Desktop Team

Beta RC2

This is the second release candidate for the beta release of Opera 10.50 for Windows.

We have disabled geolocation for now because we need more preparation for the backend services.

As this is a beta release, you can still expect some obvious bugs and omissions, such as crashes, and not all context menus being in place yet. However, we need more testing to prepare for the final version, and beta versions typically reach a wider audience.

Unless any serious regressions are discovered since the previous build, this will most likely become the official beta release.

Let us know if you find any new showstoppers. If not, we have a lot of things in the pipeline that we need you to test after the beta is out. We also hope to have something ready for Mac and Linux users.

I would just like to reiterate that the reason for this beta release is not to have a stable, finished product, but rather to expand the testing a bit. It is not intended for everyday use, but rather to allow more people to test it and give us feedback. That way, we are better prepared for the way towards the final version.

The snapshot after the beta will likely contain a large number of fixes that did not make it for the beta, so bear with us while we get the beta out there, and expect even more fixes in future builds.

great work guys!
Only a thing...when browsing ign.com or wii.ign.com opera crashes!
I don't know if this could be a blocker...anyway i think this site is very popular.

ouzowtfouzoWTF Thursday, February 11, 2010 1:41:04 AM

Maybe there should be an explanation what you guys from Opera call a showstopper as the discussions here in the comments differ enormous about what it is.
Anyway, thanks for working so hard. I'll test it.

zombie Thursday, February 11, 2010 1:41:14 AM

It's on the FTP server now. I guess it will be released tomorrow if no new showstoppers are found.

Glad Google Buzz doesn't crash this build, but one bug which I noticed last build was middle click panning in Gmail doesn't actually work! Normal scroll wheel works but middle click scrolling doesn't seem to.

May I request some Gmail fixing for the next few builds??

The builds are coming out as if we have access to your internal daily build server bigsmile which is awesome since I can't compile Opera myself sad

RC2 can't run Peacekeeper when "scan-java.action"

AECX Thursday, February 11, 2010 1:44:38 AM

tv.ign.com & 7zip.org and all the other website crashes still persist for XP SP3.....so I doubt this should be the beta.

mtrmarko Thursday, February 11, 2010 1:45:11 AM

@Haavard:

Are there any plans to enable Java versions older than 1.6 in Opera 10.5? I understand you guys are focusing on fixing more important things at this point, but will you be looking at this later in development process?

BTW, you guys are makiing awesome progress so far. Opera 10.5 is shaping up to be the best browser on the market. Keep up the good work.

I can confirm that http://7-zip.org crashes this build on WinXP SP3, but not on Win7 x64. However, tv.ign.com does not cause crashes on either of the platforms for me.

Fabio Palliniflitz Thursday, February 11, 2010 1:57:09 AM

you are doing a great work with this "evenes" release, those last builds are good enough to see the world. ;-)

please prepare a nice and polish beta page and give us the first official beta.

so next week we get tons of fixes and new features. praying for hardware acceleration! ;-)

All REGRESSIONS of 10.10 mentioned in this comment of the last build are still seen in this build. :/

Ditto. This one bug could require an RC3. This is because Opera needs to be error free when it comes to benchmarks, we want Opera to have a good first impression on some users.

mjpa Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:02:35 AM

Betas really should have stable UIs, so for the example the painting issue when scrolling text areas really should be fixed before releasing a beta.

Similarly, regressions from previous releases should be fixed, example being the bug DSK-279072. If some simple regex used by a well known JS library (jQuery) doesn't work then people aren't going to get a good impression of Opera.

NRsuperici Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:04:02 AM

While trying my own link I see another REGRESSION. When I open my posted link of the comment with middle mouse button in background, then the anchor of the comment is not appended. When using left mouse button everything is working fine.

I agree. The first thing news writers and other testers will do is starting some benchmarks against the other browsers.

nahtanoj999 Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:08:10 AM

Is this beta supposed to be feature complete? Or will we be seeing new features all throughout the process like in 10.0?

NEOAethyr Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:08:16 AM

Same bugs as the prev rev, check my last comment on page 9 of the last rev.

Also would like to include that the status and mood thingy on the myspace profile home page is not working.
They recently updated that and it's not working in opera (did not check v10.10).

Please fix javascript smile.

It would pain me to watch a reviewer be cocky and say "Oh, look Opera can't even handle Java, Chrome can.".

Who knows, let them do their magic.

rseiler Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:14:19 AM

Is it still too early to be testing (manual, for the time being) upgrades of 10.10? Sooner or later, it's going to become a factor. Most normal people are not doing clean installs, and a whole new avenue of bugs can open when testing upgrades.

Confirmed, but if you switch to mask as Firefox it works.

Keep up the good work, this build runs smoother in terms of performance but for some reason on Peacemaker my overall score is down to 400 from 1900 from 2 builds ago?

Also the excess horizontal scroll bug that was suppose to be fix still persists on http://www.sidereel.com/

idea Remember not to forget to update the http://opera.com/browser/next page.

lord-killer Thursday, February 11, 2010 2:33:35 AM

If I View button is a little buggy. If you change the zoom, it keeps "100%".

It just fix to the right percentage if I change the tab and go back to the one w/ zoom.

System: Windows 7 (64 bits)
Build: 3247 (but also happens on the last build, and others).
