Opera Desktop Team

Post-beta fixes

We promised you more things test after the beta, and here is the first part of the fixes that didn't make it into the beta. In addition to Windows, we also have new Unix builds for testing. We are trying to get something for Mac later on.

These builds contain a number of Unix specific fixes and improvements, as well as some of the many general bugs we have been working on since before the beta. This includes some work on the e-mail client.

If anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to test upgrading from Opera 10.10 or earlier, let us know about any problems you come across. We recommend against upgrading your stable installation of Opera, but it is of course possible to take a backup copy which can be restored after you have performed the test upgrade.

Important: We have switched back to the old bookmarks format. If you have upgraded from an older 10.50 build and your bookmarks are missing, you may have to copy over your bookmarks manually.

Known Issues

General
  • The bookmarks might be ignored if you upgrade from older 10.50 builds
  • Hovered/selected items in dropdown menus go white

Windows
  • HTML5 video is not working correctly
  • Scrolling on pages with plugins leaks GDI handles

Unix
  • Font problems
  • Command line option problems
  • Compiz issues
  • Language input issues
  • ...and more

Highlights

General
  • Several mail improvements, such as a better startup sequence, new features for the reply button, and bug fixes
  • Bookmarks work
  • Some performance work

Windows
  • Ghostbusting

Unix
  • Added drag&drop
  • Remote commands work

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

dualbore Friday, February 19, 2010 1:34:30 PM

OK, getting back to my own comment. The freezes are not history.
Drag & drop of messages is shaky at best (instant freeze), the new, shiny reply-button gave me a freeze on the first try (though this may be related to a different skin I used).
Wotlab boards still don't work, still very frequent system freezes in the mail panel = back to 10.10. I can't help, the last alphas (before Beta RC) felt more stable.

Question: what is the best way of reporting freezes where no
crash log is generated?

Nebli Friday, February 19, 2010 1:35:07 PM

Congratulations!

I test in Vista and xpsp3, Opera 10.50 d'ont change the background of custom buttons for show/hide toolbars for showing their condition, like the opera turbo button (green o gray), Opera 10.20 do this with custom buttons.

The Reload image, Copy image address, Copy image and Image properties option in the right-clik menú of images are disabled.

"end" key not properly functioning when typing an email

type an email that spans a few lines in the window - but don't hit "enter" while typing. now, move the cursor back to the top line, and use the "end" button on the keyboard, it does not take you to the end of that top line, rather to the front of the last line.

if the cursor is on the second line, and you hit "end", it takes you to the very end of the paragraph.

Zotlan Friday, February 19, 2010 1:57:59 PM

Nice and speedy but his Linux build crashes a lot more than the last one, even trying t use the appearance dialog makes it crash, as does confirming changes in preferences. it's going to be hard to test this one.

Since mail and feeds are getting attention, can any Opera guy mention whether DSK-278058 is a known issue or not? (I mean I couldn't mention any steps to reproduce it so it may have been marked as non-reproducible or something).

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=391791

I have tried everything from fresh installs to computer restarts. Sometimes the problem goes away only to come back.

Mail and feeds are pretty important for me. I will keep with 10.10 if this issue exists only for me and remains unfixed. sad

Henryk Husarskiceglash Friday, February 19, 2010 2:05:43 PM

there is still problem with adres bar, Opera remembers addresses entered even if in Preferences -> Advaced -> History rembember adresses value is set to 0 (zero) and on close Opera (ie.: Alt+F4) are checked all options like: clearing visited sites, cookies, passwords - only manual clearing works good.

sirnh1 Friday, February 19, 2010 2:06:26 PM

Hmmm... I'm having a problem uninstalling widgets. If I rightclick (in opera) and choose uninstall. I see an error saying "Can not load file c:\<...>\uninstal.vbs (access denied", followed by AVG claiming it to be a virus (link)...
Anyone an idea how to report that as a false positive at avg?
Edit: same thing happens, when (in windows) I go to the control panel --> 'add & remove software' and click 'uninstall'

nikitashiamhorny Friday, February 19, 2010 2:10:44 PM

The white line appears between opera bottom and windows 7 taskbar very ugly.pssst

Is this with a clean profile?

This is exactly my point they make hard work on widgets that is poor and limited for now.

But if you look at Chrome they have found the best/smart idea with their simple extensions that work the same way of widgets+extensions just better this is incredible for now, because for now Opera don't have this so easy things.

Opera's widgets are not supposed to be like Chrome's extensions. Widgets are meant to be applications, and are very important to Opera as a company. We will continue to invest heavily in widgets because as a company we need to make money. Now, it would be nice if you could stay on-topic.

Yes I have now been installing every new build in a new folder, even uninstalling the older ones. The new installations work okay for about 2 or 3 times I access a mail or feed, but then problem reoccurs.
You are most welcome to take any information from my computer. But please fix this.
