Opera Desktop Team

Weekend snapshot

Another Windows snapshot is ready for testing. There will probably not be anything for Unix and Mac this weekend.

Note that we would still like to know if you are able to find any problems when upgrading from previous versions.

Known Issues
  • Crashes a lot under Windows 7 (can be worked around by disabling opera:config#UserPrefs|UseWindows7TaskbarThumbnails)
  • GDI leak when opening pages
  • HTML5

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

DSK-279844 O-menu button can be removed with no way of getting it back

There's a way of getting it back look at my blog:

http://my.opera.com/pieRr0Ur/blog/what-to-do-if-you-suddenly-removed-the-o-menu-on-10-5

But my guide is only for Windows sad

Akbalder Saturday, February 20, 2010 1:56:31 PM

Dragging a config.xml file within the browser to debug a widget doesn't function with this build.

Vectronic Saturday, February 20, 2010 2:00:54 PM

Phantom e-mail message (started in last snapshot which was a clean profile, this an upgrade from that), seems somewhat random though... can be fixed if I delete everything in the ..\mail\* folder except the critical stuff, but then sometimes when I close and re-open Opera, it will be back again. (one POP Hotmail account, one IMAP Gmail account, both otherwise working perfect)

Also, the mail viewer [No Message Selected] has a visual glitch when clicking blank areas in the mail list... it will first show in the top left corner, with no frame/background and large bold text... then draw the normal one
No Message Selected

         [No Message Selected]

---

And one (very) small problem with the Zoom/View pop-up... it doesn't deselect the
(100% Ctrl+*) button if you zoom while the pop-up is showing, and sometimes even after you click somewhere to close it, then re-open it, the 100% button is still selected, even though the zoom might be at 50 or 200% etc... but sometimes works fine.

On the same topic, why Ctrl+0 now instead of Ctrl+*? sad ...lol, sort of conflicts with Ctrl+# for SpeedDials (even though 0 doesn't work for that)

King Crimson Saturday, February 20, 2010 2:06:08 PM

I think that "Windows7 Taskbar Thumbnails" is a very ugly feature, and disabling it was the first thing I made when I installed Opera 10.5beta.

I use Windows7 and I'd like Opera 10.5 had an option in preferences for simply disabling this feature.

Another observation:

please reintroduce close tab button on Opera status bar!

Since it seems you want to make a final soon: are you aware that when aero is disabled (or on xp) basically all custom skins corrupt the ui on restart? With Aero they are all fine.

Frenky Frenkyfrenky32 Saturday, February 20, 2010 2:18:21 PM

I still can't paste anything in search field of speed dial .
Using Gmail and Hotmail I still have to right click on the page to be able to use scripts .
Win7 32 bit

Saurabh Kumarsaurabhloyolean Saturday, February 20, 2010 2:20:26 PM

@haavard I have not had the mail greying out issue till now.(fresh install). Since no mention of it in changelog, problem will probably occur again.

Some of my other issues posted last build are there and some are fixed.
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/7964601?startidx=50#comment19318031

One of the private tab issues is fixed. But middle clicking in a private speed dial opens non-private tab.

If you tile all tabs and resize window , all tabs get maximized. (Minor issue, or maybe by design)
Now things are starting to look really good. Hope you get this out in time.

Yes, there's no way to paste a link in search field of speeddial.

And there's no way to copy text in some webpage.

Unfortunately, since the last Opera build I have been experiencing hanging and/or slow downloading when attempting to open several tabs and sites at the same time. I have also observed that the cpu will spike to 50% from time to time with the last two builds.

If I had to guess, it may have something to do with the maximum connections to a server and maximum total connections. I speculate that regardless of ones settings that the actual settings are drastically less. FYI, I am using Opera under Vista 32 SP2.

I can bet a lot of money that in the near 1-2 builds we will have hardware acceleration smile.

I doubt that. The ballot screen is a week away!

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Saturday, February 20, 2010 3:27:26 PM

Thanks guys but there is a pretty major regression. This build freezes as soon as it opens for me. 95 tabs, plugins disabled, xp64. It opens and then starts loading all the tabs and then it becomes unresponsive. I'm trying to get it to crash or generate a crash log before I file it.

Tumblr (The Customize tumblr page and the theme garden page) works slowly and unreliably. Firefox is faster on the site but it also works unreliably. Probably bad website design.

Have you tried using Process Monitor or some other tool to see what Opera is doing? You could also try generating a freeze log:

that is cool update bigsmile

Fortunately, it hasn't crashed yet on Win7 64bit wink

Still, I see just one thumbnail in taskbar even if I have many tabs open sad

Also will there be anymore skin updates Haavard?

mjpa Saturday, February 20, 2010 3:42:59 PM

Are you sure about the GDI leak existing? I've had this build open for some time, the closed tabs menu has ~100 entries and I'm still under 300 GDI objects which is the lowest I've seen with any 10.5 build.

Edit: Unless its tied to the crashing of win7 thumbnails (which i've got disabled)

I think so because of two reasons - there is obviously some work being done on the pagebar animations (opening and closing tabs), previously the animation wasn't of a complete degradation but only for 50% of the tab. A complete animation wouldn't look as nice if it didn't get additional power form somewhere else.

Second reason - for the last ~3 builds the presto string is 2.6.22, although it was reported immediately in the comments they didn't change it back, therefore it is obviously not a mistake.
