Opera 10.50 for Windows is released

, , , ,

Windows 10.50 is released and we are still the fastest browser available! If you haven't downloaded it yet, what is taking you so long? Head over to www.opera.com/download, to get your hands on it now. We have gone from Pre-Alpha to Final in just over two months (with a Christmas holiday in between I might add). Never has the development of the desktop browser been so fast. Our developers are rivalling Carakan for speed! But the thanks doesn't just go to them, we simply couldn't have done it without your testing and feedback. So give yourselves a big pat on the back for all that we have achieved together. bigsmile In the last couple of blog posts, several of you commented that our developers deserve some time off and whilst that is true, I know the Mac and UNIX teams are still hungry to get their own versions of 10.50 out. So there will be no slacking off, just yet. Development continues apace! Whilst you Mac and UNIX users await your respective finals, we thought we'd give you another snapshot. Like the Windows final, these builds have the latest rendering improvements but are understandably still rougher around the edges, as they have not yet been fully optimised and integrated into their environments (though Mac is getting close). Highlights
  • The latest Presto and Carakan improvements
Known Issues
  • Mac
    • No support for PowerPC (PPC)
    • Minimal Java Support
    • Possible performance issues on low end machines
  • UNIX
    • Font problems
    • Language input issues
    • Compiz issues
    • No .deb or .rpm packages
    • Some Command line option don't work
WARNING: Opera 10.50 for Mac and Unix is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. Downloads

Same thing with a Logitech MX1000, working with Opera 10.10.
Win7/32 too.

The new Mac build is more stable; nicely done.

Wow, I like the "Status Bar items in the Panel Bar" idea; good use of empty vertical space. Given the minimalism and sleekness of the Evenes UI, please consider adding this: When Status Bar is OFF, add those items auto-magically into the Panel Bar. wink

I'm a bit confused about Vega:
Is the hardware accelerated back-end of Vega already implemented and enabled in Opera 10.50, or is it still working in software only mode?

Congratulations,
I wish you good luck for the Mac/Linux versions.

Seem to be getting a lot of NSL at El Reg in this Mac build.
(OSX v10.6.2)

sikctrip Tuesday, March 2, 2010 2:55:02 PM

Scroll marker doesn't work for me.

Patkós Csabapatkoscsaba Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:00:03 PM

Well Well ... it's taking shape. Aside of the known issues, this build feels stable on Linux 64bits but it looks awful. Anyway, I decided to take it to a more serious test. So, unless I find some real show-stopper bug, I will try to continue to use it in my everyday browsing.

And ... I reiterate this known problem. For me the biggest issue is the font problem. I don't mind if some menus are not working, or if some graphical elements are out of place ... but some pages are pretty hard to read.
Please focus your Linux development on making Opera render fonts in an acceptable way and I think you will have lot more users using it and reporting precious feedback.

PS: Good work on the Windows Release!

It ROCKS on Linux. With 10.50 Gmail got about 100 times faster!

It is running in software mode now.

Don't know when they will introduce hardware rendering. Vega has been build from the ground up with the possibility for both software and hardware rendering. Hardware rendering is not deployed yet.

Opera is already fast with Vega in software rendering. The future looks bright....coffee

I can't log in to opera link. My username has a dot (.) in it, and when trying to log in to opera link in opera 10.50 (for mac os 10.6.2) I get an error that says dots make the username invalid.

Question: I know integration and interface for Linux is far from finished, but WHEN SHOULD WE START reporting usability/interface bugs for Linux builds?

I just don't want to report a lot of known things.

Thanks.

Okay. I understand that duplicate bookmarks are a problem for some people or whatever. But why the heck have you changed it so I cannot bookmarks the same page twice, even if I want to? This is ridiculous! If I want the same bookmark in 2 different places, I can no longer do it at all in Opera. I can't use the browser if it stays like this. There's not even an error message or something alerting me that the bookmark I just made wasn't created because it exists elsewhere. How did this go final?

I have different bookmark folders for different things. Maybe one is a list of references for a certain project and another is a list for another project. Now what if both projects have a reference in common? What am I supposed to do now? This is a serious problem.

You really need to consider that some people use bookmarks in a more complex way than just sticking in 10 or 20 links to places they go every day. I use bookmarks to keep lists of sites I'll need to return to at a later point for any number of reasons, and it's a big problem if one site is forbidden from appearing in more than one list. There are other bookmark issues as well that are really severe, like the whole thing being extremely slow unless I disable opera:config#OperaSync|SyncBookmarks, and deleting a single bookmark resulting in the whole tree collapsing. I feel that you guys are really neglecting this feature, but it is absolutely critically important to the way lots of people browse. Please address these issues, as I cannot upgrade as it stands. I would never have believed that regressive bookmark behavior could stop me from using Opera, but somehow it happened. Again, PLEASE look at these issues, I don't want to be forced to use another browser for such stupid reasons.

what happened now is that i allowed cookies, logged in,
but at the next page load the cookies were disabled again...

admittedly i am using a 10.20 profile directory and more
glitches like this are to be expected. i will have to create
a profile dir from scratch and move my stuff step by step...

(there is no visible change on windows gmail)

Araiel Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:28:50 PM

Congrats for the new release! I hope it makes Opera more popular smile

There is a bug that I think would not be too hard to fix:
Opera 10.50 final still opens UDP port 1900 even when Unite is disabled and UPnP and Service Discovery settings disabled in opera:config. I hope this will be fixed so the unnecessary open ports and traffic can be ended. There are threads in the forums talking about it, like these:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=433551
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=406611

Thanks.

I have both a "remember" checkbox on the login page and Wand also pops up asking me if I want to save the password. (Linux 64bits)

Exactly!

Noo!!! This means we won't get new beta builds to try out. At least till Mac/UNIX reaches final.

Vonnick Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:38:49 PM

Fanboy's Adblock List doesn't work in the final build. Has the profile directory been moved?

That's probably because you've already run that installer (it is the same as the latest RC on this blog).

You could mention more subtle problems in this blog post (for a short while, not much use if comments reach the high numbers again), I wouldn't bother with obvious problems on the main distros right now.

Yes, this happens to all upgraders that have customized the buttons on their status bar. The upgrade adds new sub-toolbars on the left and right of the status bar replacing the previous content of the default status bar, but doesn't remove items from existing customized status toolbars.

Espenher Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:43:15 PM

Noo, why did you replace that cute trash-can on the mac-build? p I was so glad when it made it to the mac build, and now it's gone. Sad..

Anyway, this build seems stable and nice so far smile

Still not working at all on Kubuntu 9.10. Nothing happens when launching, comes back to terminal instantly.

Use adsweep userJS, I think it's much better and removes the empty spaces left by blocked content wink

Vonnick Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:57:08 PM

Tried it, doesn't block nearly as much as Fanboy's with the element filter (hides the spaces).

Christianc1973 Tuesday, March 2, 2010 3:57:50 PM

javascript:toggle doesn't work. For example here:

it's not possible to remove the pictures.

Can anyone confirm?

middle button doesn't work in url or...?
Can you confirm...

Serpher Tuesday, March 2, 2010 4:01:10 PM

There's a problem with Unite Apps and Opera Sync.
1. Sometimes Opera only shows download window for Unite App but nothing ain't downloaded.
2. Even if I will install Application, it will not work at all (Error 404)
3. Opera Link freezes Opera when synchronizing bookmarks, and after Opera close Synchronization Window freezes.

Trygvetrygveaa Tuesday, March 2, 2010 4:01:33 PM

Really great. Hopefully not to long to wait for beta/final unix version.

Some bugs in this unix version (and maybe previous too), running Ubuntu 9.10 x64:
- Can't press space to select/deselect checkboxes when focused.
- When pressing OK in preferences after changing a setting, the menu bar becomes visible.
- When adding a new speed dial page, the text in the address field is cleared when the suggestion box appears.
- When dragging a tab with right mouse button, the tab isn't released when the button is.
- When moving window with alt+mouse button, and releasing mouse button before alt, the menu opens.

Is this known bugs? I haven't reported them to the bug tracker yet.

Where the video promote the features on Opera 10.50....?

Is it marketing departments do the jobs..? o

it is very unlikely to Google Chrome.. having video demonstrate how that features works...

the user more like watching video than reading the prescription of features Opera 10.5 .. it so static...down

we want more video... not just the graph display who is faster or who not!bigsmile

The Opera Company not promote enough on the browser....

so pity..!awww cry
