Opera 10.50 for Windows is released

, , , ,

Windows 10.50 is released and we are still the fastest browser available! If you haven't downloaded it yet, what is taking you so long? Head over to www.opera.com/download, to get your hands on it now. We have gone from Pre-Alpha to Final in just over two months (with a Christmas holiday in between I might add). Never has the development of the desktop browser been so fast. Our developers are rivalling Carakan for speed! But the thanks doesn't just go to them, we simply couldn't have done it without your testing and feedback. So give yourselves a big pat on the back for all that we have achieved together. bigsmile In the last couple of blog posts, several of you commented that our developers deserve some time off and whilst that is true, I know the Mac and UNIX teams are still hungry to get their own versions of 10.50 out. So there will be no slacking off, just yet. Development continues apace! Whilst you Mac and UNIX users await your respective finals, we thought we'd give you another snapshot. Like the Windows final, these builds have the latest rendering improvements but are understandably still rougher around the edges, as they have not yet been fully optimised and integrated into their environments (though Mac is getting close). Highlights
  • The latest Presto and Carakan improvements
Known Issues
  • Mac
    • No support for PowerPC (PPC)
    • Minimal Java Support
    • Possible performance issues on low end machines
  • UNIX
    • Font problems
    • Language input issues
    • Compiz issues
    • No .deb or .rpm packages
    • Some Command line option don't work
WARNING: Opera 10.50 for Mac and Unix is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. Downloads

RC5, or was it 7?New Snapshot

there's a little feature from 10.10 now missing:

when you right clicked an image,in 10.10 and before, it showed the name of the file just to the right of the "open image" action. This was very useful for some tasks

in 10.50 this is missing

try it, right clicking my avatar, or the image above

OK, help please. On pics which I found on the Internet, Opera 10.50 skin looks different than mine, look at the picture:

Why? sad

I found that little feature useful, too. To use "Image properties" you need to learn to dodge the "Inspect Element" menu item - it would be nice to have the name of the image in the context menu again.

Why?

That looks like the same skin to me, except you've upgraded from a previous installation where you'd customised the toolbar layout (so you have the old panel toggle button in the top menu instead of the status bar area, which you've switched off). Or am I missing something obvious? confused

Do you have aero turned on? Do you have the "color intensity" of elements on your Windows desktop elements minimized? What color scheme are you using in Windows? in Opera?

I Have Vista, and installed the Win 7 (or a very good copy) transparency DLL to my machine, and I can make my copy look EXACTLY like the one on Softpedia if I revert to defaults, change my desktop wallpaper, and use the right color scheme.

(Instead, I use Z1-Glass skin, because it is an aesthetic masterpiece.)

Your toolbars are definitely customized from the original, so you have either done that, or installed your copy as an upgrade over a customized build. Also, I don't see your wallpaper, so it's black, or you don't have aero turned on, OR (can't tell for sure from your screenshot) you have the personal bar turned on.

Also, the Opera window on softpedia is not maximized and yours is. Thak makes the tabs hang down below the "O" button.

Deconfirmed XP-SP3-32bit, single monitor. YouTube normally autohides the mouse when you stop moving it. Only problem is if you really can't get it back.

Do you have the red "O" menu button in your upper left corner? (if not, "reset toolbar to defaults" in the location where that should be, and it should reappear.) Then when you click it, the second to last menu item is "show menu bar." Click on that.

hmm... it seems like this problem is due to new adobe flash 10.1 beta 3 but not opera... will try previous one... because i've just tried it on win2003 server with the same beta 3 flashplayer... and it works perfect, the difference is that win2003 system doesn't have hardware video acceleration in flash, it's on intel gma... and my comp with win 7 has it through 8800GT...

Hi Opera,

Thanks for 10.50

1. Its not possible to run multiple instances of Opera at the same time ? (With double click Opera Icon) / CRTL+N is OK.

2. how set Standard CRTL+F (without the Searchbar) just the little Search Window ?

Thank you

Thangarajthangarajj Wednesday, March 3, 2010 6:06:49 AM

Same for me. Find in page in 'view source' mode is not usable.
Low priority bug though.

The menu on the left hand side is impossible to use, the items does not expand. Masking as FF/IE does not help. Can anyone confirm?

Confirmed.
But, also this menu doesn't work in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. It works only in IE.
Definitely this site uses some dinosaur-era script for this collapsible menu tree.

Yes there is something to switch it back on with. Click on the big red O menu button and select the option near the bottom to switch the old style menu bar back on. Then File, Edit,...Tools... will be back.

exactly! I think that's the point of the exercise - neutral legitimation of Opera's supremacy smile

everything is fine on win7 x64

btw. is it possible to make that when opera is minimized, right clicking opera in taskbar and choosing new tab or new private tab will open opera window.
it makes no sense that opera stays minimized when creating new tab. and when opera window is already active, no one will be right clicking opera in taskbar to create new tab. everyone will click +

Hi!
Congratulations!
Great job!
But may I directly upgrade from Opera 10.10 to 10.50?
Or may I use my profile from Opera 10.10?
Or need I to do clear install?
Thanks!

Using 'fit to width' makes reading emails impossible. The opened mails' window is just gray.
Panels don't stick, it reverts back to bookmarks after closing Opera.

Just installed Opera 10.5. When I right click a link and hit "Open" or "Open in New Tab" or "Open in Background Tab" nothing happens. I have tested this on a Windows XP and a windows Vista PC and the same thing happens. Seems like a pretty serious issue.
