Fixing crash bugs for Unix beta release

Ruario promised you a Unix beta soon, and here is the release candidate for Opera 10.53 Beta for Unix!

This build mostly has stability fixes, but there are a couple of fixes for issues with TLS, and CPU and memory usage. See the changelog for all the details.

We have also re-enabled pubsuffix, so let us know if you encounter any "Never Stops Loading" (NSL) problems, such as the "Waiting for DNS confirmation of cookie domain(s)" message in the progress bar (when set to appear at the bottom).

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Lucalucaviozzi Friday, April 30, 2010 3:37:31 PM

mhmh dunnno why but i feel that this build is really much more slower loading pages then the official 10.53 on my xp sp3...

Arguggi Friday, April 30, 2010 3:38:19 PM

I don't get it, isn't this supposed to be 10.54 since 10.53 was released today?

hurug Friday, April 30, 2010 3:49:16 PM

I don't get it also. What platform is it for ?
Since yesterday I installed Ubuntu. And I still have Vista.

What is relevant for each ?

dupel Friday, April 30, 2010 3:50:33 PM

Yippy! My memory leak was fixed =)

And despite apparent focus on unix, core fixes are one of the most significant since early 1050.

"CORE-28201 (Find in page crashes if search string starts with space)"
eek It's the second time I see you fixing that bug! bigsmile

Do I need to remember you that right-click note > copy does nothing?

sebt Friday, April 30, 2010 4:13:10 PM

Linux: Seems to be hanging whenever I use Page..Open or Page..Save as, as for the last few builds sad

Also input type="text" controls are too small using KDE 4 widgets.

Windows: crash when printing on the this site. Print dialog appears and Opera goes 100% CPU. Was working at 10.51, but started crashing since 10.52 pre-releases.

Seb smile

Linux: while multi-monitor is workable now, Opera still ignores when changes to resolution/monitor layout happen while it's running (using xrandr).

Also, no effort seems to be made to keep context menus on one monitor.

OperaDrBruce Friday, April 30, 2010 4:44:00 PM

Changelog is for all systems?

James Cassellelitegeek Friday, April 30, 2010 4:48:31 PM

Is there an executive summary of what changed in the EULA?

Charlie ClarkMuzzlehatch Friday, April 30, 2010 4:48:37 PM

hm, creates a new 1050 profile on Mac OS X. :-/

Rustamrupunk Friday, April 30, 2010 4:55:06 PM

why after final vesion 10.53, again 10.53 (3381)?

Volkodavwolf4914 Friday, April 30, 2010 5:02:15 PM

PS M$ hotmail does not load. Not sure if is a browser or OS issue. Running Ubuntu 10.04. Yahoo and others are fine. Will get out of MS world completely

VarunVarunM Friday, April 30, 2010 5:04:50 PM

"Waiting for DNS confirmation of cookie domain"

It is back, i reproduced the way i always have on my machine.
Load 20+ tabs simultaneously, wait for some time, then manually crash/kill opera, on restart some tabs/sites show this msg.

BUT the sites are loading fully. after they show this message, and other tabs have loaded up, the problem site loads normally.

So msg is shown sometimes, but site loads up fully soon enough eventually.

Yeah, that one was really annoying... cry

miloe Friday, April 30, 2010 5:24:19 PM

Has someone noticed a white pixel when browsing with this build on Ubuntu 10.04? I have a white pixel in Opera and when I move the opera window, the white pixel moves too.

Gosha Friday, April 30, 2010 5:25:40 PM

OS: FreeBSD 8.0 i386, fluxbox that build, if i click on any menu item which have submenu (for example if i click on unite or widgets) all menu disappears. English isn't my native language smile
В общем товарищи, переведите кто-нибудь разработчикам, что если я щёлкаю на элементе меню у которого есть подменю, то вся менюха пропадает. Хотя по идее просто ничего не должно происходить. smile Спасибо!

Patkos Csabapatkoscsaba Friday, April 30, 2010 5:26:09 PM

Good job, this is the first 10.5x build that starts up instantly with my few thousand of mails ... nice surprise.

Question: I saw there are no known issues. Does this mean that font issues should also be solved?

Jandevil-kin Friday, April 30, 2010 5:26:51 PM

Crashes often when saving files. The dialogbox will open, i hit save and *poof* it's gone.

Running on debian 64bit. Desktop environment is XFCE.

You better check ctrl+f12 -> advanced -> cookies -> accept cookies. Dont know for what default setting of Opera 10.1 is changed to this. Maybe this regress.

Andrew Samandrewsam Friday, April 30, 2010 5:40:46 PM

Facebook login not working in the homepage. Fonts still the same, no antialiasing and not respecting font settings.. otherwise things seem to be okay!

Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid lynx

ITA84 Friday, April 30, 2010 5:51:09 PM

It's not a Unix-specific issue, but I'd like to have the Scroll Marker working again, it hasn't been showing for me since 10.50, neither on Vista nor on Linux.

Jose Ricardo De Leonderhundchen Friday, April 30, 2010 5:57:12 PM

I think I have a NSL bug on a google search. The string says (in spanish) "enviando peticion a www.google.com.gt..." I was searching for "planet suse" and so far it has been like that for about 15 minutes and counting. Ithink the string in english would be "sending request to www.google.com.gt..."

WRT the link: hmm, which feature of pubsuffix is meant (or a different one)?

Avoid privacy-damaging "supercookies" being set for high-level domain name suffixes
Highlight the most important part of a domain name in the user interface
Accurately sort history entries by site

MeanEYEmeaneye-rcf Friday, April 30, 2010 6:06:12 PM

Opera still doesn't remember wink window state.
Font issues but that's nothing new...

Oh and flash doesn't seem to be working well in opera. I have issues clicking buttons in facebook apps and in www.as.com; they all work in Firefox 3.5.9

Can confirm. Having the same problem on http://www.extrafilm.be/default.aspx

icare Friday, April 30, 2010 6:30:00 PM

Someone I don't remember who, suggested that lowering the number of max connections in the network preferences solved some NSL problems.

Oh Yayyyy...Finally. You guys rock. You have given me enough reason to cheer. First the Ubuntu 10.04...as a "macstatic performance"..and then to top it all..Opera beta.

Give us a shiny new final release soon and I'd bathe you guys in free beer.

Thx

A problem with www.prostopleer.com

When I connect there without a flash player installed, it show me two popups: standart opera's window, which shows "Macromedia Flash player has not been found .. blah blah" and site native. Never mind on that, you've pressed, on first popup, the site freezes and does not respond any keyboard shortcuts (by the way, button "OK" or link from there could not be pressed also)

When plugins just turned off - it response normally

joshas Friday, April 30, 2010 7:11:35 PM

After loading a HTTPS site security information text in address bar besides lock icon constantly move from left to right and back again until mouse is moved over it. Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.
And there's some lag after pressing F4 until panel appears (same if toolbar button is used).
Another minor annoyance is that Opera by default is saving downloads to Documents folder, instead of Downloads.
Oh, and issue with www.dotproject.net tab icon glitches is still here.

eehsun Friday, April 30, 2010 7:24:12 PM

Could you please address the issue of videos on webtv.hurriyet.com.tr not playing? 10.10 had worked properly on this site.

hurriyet.com.tr is the most visited news-site in Turkey, and "webtv" constitutes its video-news sub-section. And the fact that Opera fails to play videos on the site mentioned above makes it harder for us, fellow Opera users, to convince others here to give Opera a shot as a browser. The problem is, as soon as newcomers find out that webtv.hurriyet.com.tr does not work on Opera at all, they get severely disappointed and give up on using Opera, often saying: "What kind of a browser is this, I'm going back to FF/Chrome".

As an anology, consider news.yahoo.com/video not working on Opera.

Best regards...

Why you do not want to make compact tabs-in-window-header for unix =((((( you have make it even for windows XP, where window header cannot have buttons by default...

Sorry for bad english
