Lots of little fixes can result in a big improvement

, ,

Another new snapshot just one day after the last one! wink

This snapshot is particularly good news for our FreeBSD and Linux users, since it includes fixes to a number of irritating issues. We'd encourage *nix users to scan through the change log below. We have also made builds available on Windows and Mac. Whilst not much has changes for you guys there is a cross platform fix on mail, so if you were experiencing mail crashes this might be a good build to test.

With regards to bigger outstanding issues on UNIX (Plugin performance improvements [including Java], IME, fixes to fonts), these issues are being worked on, however we still need more time before we can share with you the fruits of our labour. Thanks for your patience!

Remember to keep comments relevant, descriptive and brief, and avoid repetition of issues that have alread been reported. Your comments may be removed if they are off-topic.

Is there any progress with DSK-298403 (Opera periodically stops responding for a minute)? It really keeps me from using Opera normally.

Thank you, thank you for F2!!! It has been bugging me for such a long time! Opera team, you are awesome!

Quppa Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:07:38 AM

Thanks smile

Unfortunately the Acrobat plugin still doesn't work with 'Enable On Demand Plugin' enabled in opera:config. Any chance this might be fixed for 10.54 final? (Whitelisting would also be great, but I understand that's going to take a non-trivial amount of time to implement.)

zoquete Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:08:11 AM

OMG another one???? thank you so much!
and dcc??? works now?

Trygvetrygveaa Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:10:55 AM

Serious skin regression in this build. Can't read text on any context menus.
http://files.myopera.com/trygveaa/files/opera-context-menu-6336.png
This was an issue on earlier builds but was fixed a while ago. In this build, the problem is back.
OS: Ubuntu 10.04, x86_64. Theme: Dust

Dennis TardioTardio Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:28:05 AM

Problem with images, 50% downloaded, only first 25% showed until downloaded at 100%, for example, not fixed I think. it's really visible on "big" image.
Horizontal scrolling with mouse like the Logitech MX1000 still not working, thats not working with ONLY ONE browser, this browser is opera 10.5x...

Graphic bug with combobox is apparently fixed !

Memory usage is also a problem... too memory is used by Opera 10.5x, the 10.10 version use less memory to do the same things. I think you can improve this.

There is also another thing which is VERY IRRITATING, very BORING, it's this :
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/4144/operahu.jpg

Double click in the red zone = maximize/window opera
Double click in the blue zone open a new tab.

PLEASE, just did the same thing in CHROME, ONLY ONE zone which only maximize opera, because every time I want to maximize opera, I open a new tab...... it's just HORRIFIC !

Win 7, 32-bits

Quppa Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:30:45 AM

In both this build and the last, the address bar drop down list doesn't like to register clicks at times. That is, items do not respond even though the mouse is currently over that element. Unfortunately I haven't come up with reproducible instructions, yet...

And it better stay that way.

Confirmed Regression
Ubuntu 10.04

Also Opera does not repaint the GUI when a skin is changed, Firefox does.

joshas Wednesday, May 12, 2010 11:41:11 AM

Take all the time you need to fix all issues, but not too long wink
One issue on Linux - when there's a smaller window (Arrange->Restore) on top, clicking inside window below it doesn't put underlying window up to front. I think clicking on window below smaller window should put it up to front (like clicking on tab).

Can you finally fix many problems with Google Docs:

1. After awhile working on a document, Opera crashes (half hour).
2. After few minutes of working on a document, using arrow keys prints strange characters into the document.
3. Randomly on save document error pops up (Google) that save object is empty and displays some JSON formated empty object.

Also, there are still many problems with FaceBook. I don't use it much, but I know of many people who used Opera and had to swith to other browsers because many Facebook features are broken, only in Opera.

It's great that Opera is most standardized browser, but most websites are not obeying standards, so if you don't want to continue loosing users, fix the problems. I have reported several times bugs in Facebook and none of them is fixed. This include click problems in many applications (Flixter for instance, you can rate anything, and same things happens in other applications using similar model), most Flash games crash (again, only in Opera)...

Andrew Samandrewsam Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:24:08 PM

Will traditional menubar shortcuts be supported when the menubar is hidden. For instance the closing all but the active tab and all tabs is now strictly mouse driven? any suggestions as to how these will be implemented, coz we are very used to these menu shortcuts.

Kubuntu 10.04 i386

Topimrkukov Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:42:36 PM

This build boosted peacekeeper a lot. The score has been going down but this was positive surprise.
Flash crash bug is still there. (when loading some page do the mouse gesture "back" over a flash element)

btyop Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:44:03 PM

King of Kungfu Facebook Game Layout still broken.

polosatus Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:48:57 PM

Problems with connection. Several sites do not open in opera at all, such as http://www.garfield-comics.ru/

When you try to open it, Opera gives some "network error". If you then refresh the page, Opera would give "internal networking error".

Xubuntu Lucid, no proxies, other browsers (firefox, chromium, w3m) open this site well.

opera on bsd still depends on Qt4 then. I am getting complaints about mixing incompatible qt libraries.
time to do a portmaster -a i think.

I have heavy CPU load (near 100%), while resizing the Opera window. Can anyone confirm this?

It doesn't depend on them but it will try to use them if they are there.

Could you clarify the problem you are seeing?

Pitiphong PhongpattranontDeathscytheSephiroth Wednesday, May 12, 2010 2:01:16 PM

New build, does this build fix the open new window take (very) long time issue when global_history.dat is large?

sa666666 Wednesday, May 12, 2010 2:06:35 PM

Yes, it looks like the F2 issue is finally fixed. Now there's the other half of bug report DSK-297808; the 'Show Web Search' functionality (tied to Alt-Space) isn't working. Pressing Alt-Space pops up a dialog, and after entering some text and pressing Enter, the dialog doesn't disappear. You have to manually click in the textfield and then press Enter. Older versions (pre-9.2x) worked from just the keyboard, without having to use the mouse.

jeangrey Wednesday, May 12, 2010 2:13:07 PM

Today DENIC had a problem with their DNS servers and i discovered an absolutly NO GO issue with Opera. mad

I don't know how Opera tries to resolve domains but aparently it fails with that.

Windows resolves google.de fine (Pinging google.de [74.125.77.104] with 32 bytes of data:)

and Opera gives me "Could not locate remote server" after Looking up host name.

FIX THIS!

OlegSmilyUser Wednesday, May 12, 2010 2:23:20 PM

May be not a bug, just funny feature with Google Reader.
When keeping mouse on date of any post, it shows in a popup with date and time posted. That's normal, ok.

When I scroll a page without moving mouse, line-by-line with mouse scroll and cursor is again placed on date, popup window appears in unexpected place smile
The most often it's placed on left upper corner

Got some strange behaviors on some sites with dynamic content (which site doesn't have it nowadays...?), such as: http://www.ratp.fr, the website for Metro and buses in the Paris area; here, you can choose a starting and arrival point, and the site will tell you which train/metro/bus you should take, at what time, and where to switch, etc...

For a while, when I tried to enter an address in the "Arrival" frame, typing shift-4 would switch tabs! I couldn't get a number "4" in that frame. Then, for no apparent reason, I was suddenly able to enter a full address in both frames, but for a moment, I thought my MacBook Pro was haunted...

Aside from that, nothing new to report. Couldn't reproduce this "bug", so I'm beginning to wonder if I haven't dreamed it all... lol

The numbers of empty slots in the speeddial window are now black instead of light grey as in previous releases. I think this was no good decision. The empty slots are now too eye-catching. Since they are empty, they shouldn't be that obtrusive
