Opera Desktop Team

Stability, font work, and Geolocation for Linux

This snapshot fixes a few more crash bugs that are affecting a lot of people. There is also some more work on international fonts (however, please look at the known issues below), and Geolocation using Wifi is now available for Linux.

If you are having problems with Geolocation on Linux, please include details about the driver for your wireless adapter. You can use the following command:

lspci | grep Ethernet
Note that FreeBSD still doesn't use Wifi for geolocation, and only uses the computer IP which is less accurate.

Known Issues
  • International fonts not working correctly on Linux/FreeBSD
  • Geolocation on FreeBSD still falls back to IP

WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features.

First!
Thanks for the increased activity in build releases. We all love it.

Still no news about the tab bar button hovering being off by a few pixels compared to 10.5x series? It's annoying to anyone who has hundreds of tabs at the same time... When your tabs are 4-pixel wide and you spend your time switching between them with a precision mouse, you can't afford to have a tab highlight itself when you're hovering over the center of the one next to it... :-/

Edit: as a reminder -- this can be reproduced by installing a fresh copy of v10.60, installing the D.T.A skin (one of the few skins that are power-user-friendly in the tab bar), and launching at least a hundred tabs with Ctrl+T. Cancel them later with Ctrl+W. The highlighting works just fine with v10.54. If there's something that can be done by editing the skin, please feel free to share!

Just raised a bug with the application cache status and uncached values not having the correct value for a cached page.
Great to see wifi accuracy coming to Linux.
Vuvuzela all the way.

Nope. Well, at least it doesn't look like it. Problem is, with 100+ tabs, the default skin starts showing gibberish instead of properly drawn simple tabs.
I'm sure it's an issue with padding and margins or something. But the trouble is, *it worked with v10.54* and all versions before it. So, it means something was changed. I'd just like for the team to have a look into it and tell us what needs to be changed, if it can be fixed in the skin itself.

yesterday "pineapple" today "vuvuzela" LOL thanks for the fast releasing speed!

well, deviantart.com overlapping image issue is not yet fixed...
and ya, I found opera still loading from its cache (didn't update) after visiting the page again although the page had changed a lot

cheers!

Lucalucaviozzi Friday, June 25, 2010 1:43:06 PM

i can't remove the search bar in the speed dial, it always reappear after the browser restart. And in the list of the search engines the icons are wrong.

Anyone can confirm?
xp sp3

erupt Friday, June 25, 2010 1:43:55 PM

On www.guru3d.com the page is not fully loading, because of 'Waiting #19 for connection'. While this page is fully loaded Opera doesn't load any web sites, because of the very same issue above. The same happens when you try to reload the image of guru3d on the speed dial.
Here is a screenshot: http://files.myopera.com/erupt/files/1.png

Any chance to have back a functional "Show images / Cached images only / etc." toggle button in the lower right corner ready to be used when Opera starts ? When I am on mobile I use often that feature, but now I have to load any random page first (including any image it might have) in order to be then able to disable the image loading. I know that this option is also somewhere in main menu, but it is too far and annoying to be reached (and if so, then what's the purpose of the lower button to be there ?).

This is a(another) regression, in 10.10 works as it should.

Geolocation is now definitely working better on Linux, remarkably accurate really. It's only a few dozen meter off on your demo site.

PengePenge4 Friday, June 25, 2010 2:08:22 PM

Thanks for the suggestions to the address bar. yes

Bill PBill_P Friday, June 25, 2010 2:09:11 PM

Wykladowca Friday, June 25, 2010 2:09:24 PM

Opera hangs on loading pages with flash content. It completely stops for more or less 15 seconds. After unfreezing no flash is loaded.
Output when Opera is run from the console:

opera: Plug-in 11800 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins.
opera: Plug-in 11832 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins.
opera: Plug-in 11863 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins.

Moreover, Opera Dragonfly after changing the active tab covers part of the site instead of resizing the page display area.

Another issue is 1px black outline around form select dropdowns. It breaks look of some native controls

The plugins issue that plagued the previous builds -- CORE-30895 (Does not find all plug-ins) -- seems to be fixed. Thanks.

Ben Ryvesbenryves Friday, June 25, 2010 2:13:10 PM

Installing this build set Ask as my default search engine and added the Speed Dial search (also Ask). I had previously set Bing as my default search engine and removed the Speed Dial search.

The plugin "totem-mozilla" (version 2.30.2) doesn't work. It's in the right folders, but Opera can't find it.

Can somebody help? It's a bug?

I was so full of hope, but still no Flash in OpenSuse 11.3. :-(

Except for that everything works fine.

Whats with these links
http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/vuvuzela_10.60-3437/Opera_1060_3437_in.exe
And previous build
http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/pineapple_10.60-3435/Opera_1060_3435_in.exe

pineapple, vuvuzela, am i missing something?

Also this current build seems some 30% slower on Peacemaker Benchmark than the first 10.6 build.

A random number or word gets added to the download location, to prevent guessing of the next build. Gives us time to upload them and edit the blogpost before pushing the 'post' button.

VarunVarunM Friday, June 25, 2010 2:47:43 PM

I am seeing these latest builds having some significant CPU usage
It sticks around 15-23 % CPU constantly.
Even when minimized its around that mark.
Only some 8 tabs opened. Mem. usage is at 300MB (not an issue)
Started noticing this in last few ones (possibly since 10.6 got out)

Using Win 7 64bit.
Processor is core2duo 3.16GHz 4GB RAM

Bill PBill_P Friday, June 25, 2010 2:49:46 PM

@Rijk - re: geolocation not working

they all ask for permission and I give it (pop up on top)

http://benwerd.com/lab/geo.php - The page could not get your location.
http://diveintohtml5.org/detect.html#geolocation - Unable to determine your location.
http://html5demos.com/geo - failed

turned off ujs and proxy and no help and did not work in Chromium either, so could it be a firewall port issue?

MaxFragg Friday, June 25, 2010 2:50:10 PM

since when did you add the option to remove the menu button text again? anyway, nice you did

@Bill P: they work all for me (win7 64 currently, and they did also work with linux in the last build) the only thing is, that for me geolocation is incredible unprecise and allways points towards the center of nuremberg, which is about 25km from here

Where's this option?

And again middle button/scroll click on tab opens nes instead of closing

MaxFragg Friday, June 25, 2010 3:00:25 PM

its no special option just select the "toolbar" that countains the button and change in apperance setting "show icons and text" to "show only icons"

bariouxbrioux Friday, June 25, 2010 3:01:46 PM

The last 3 builds hang completely when accessing Google Maps; Opera needs to be 'killed' but gives no error messages. Happens on Windows XP and 7.

kslee Friday, June 25, 2010 3:10:11 PM

Font settings are not respected on web pages.
Still overridden by Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier New.
[Edit] Win xp.
