Opera Desktop Team

Second release candidate for 10.61

,

Hello everyone!

This is my first and (at least for the foreseeable future) last post on this blog:
For the last nine weeks I have been a summer intern in the Desktop Team and as a long time Opera fan I totally enjoyed it! There are some very cool things happening in the future of Opera and I'm sure that they will make it rock even harder!

If you have wondered what we summer interns did this year: We mostly developed tools for the testers and developers at Opera that should help them to release builds even faster!

Todays RC mostly contains stability fixes. But we had to revert the fix for the blanking out of the start bar, as it caused some other problems, and it probably won't make it in 10.61 Final. You should also look out for problems with cookies as we fixed a bug in the cookie settings. There are also some improvements for Geolocation on Unix and some fixes for memory issues.

Have a nice remaining summer and to the Opera team: Good Luck!

2 bugs both related to the closed tabs trashcan :
Since rc1, no more favicons in the closed tabs trashcan and you need to close 2 tabs before the trashcan becomes a available (linux i386, rmp, mandriva 2010.1)

This build is still not usable under Mac OS 10.4.11 on PPC - due to high CPU usage and long delays while entering text into URL field, forms or email. DSK-308554

yes

I wonder if DSK-303512 will be fixed in final 10.61!? Ola contacted me to get some more details, but I dont know if it helped. Its definitely not fixed in this snapshot.

And will the postmessage() issue for facebook (I dont know the bug number, but I mean this one) make it in 10.61 final? I think thats a very big thing for all pages using facebook features and therefor facebook users.

Last time I posted this I was told it doesn't reproduce, but I managed to reproduce it on several 64-bit Win 7 systems, including fresh installs of the OS an Opera and it still happens on this build. Here it goes again:

Go to:
http://bfbcs.com/stats_pc/TimSad/dogtags
Sort the table clicking on a column name in the header, for example "Rank". (The site uses JQuery + JQuery.tablesorter - nice use of Canvas in the graphs btw.).
Notice that the CPU usage jumps to 100% on a core (50% on dual core, 25% on quad etc.) and that it takes a long time to sort the table (20 seconds or more). Other browsers sort it much faster (a few seconds).

Jernej Simončičеnder Monday, August 2, 2010 12:51:47 PM

Are there any plans to fix the colour of javascript alert() boxes and the certificate warning dialog? They're hard to read with their current background.

Bill PBill_P Monday, August 2, 2010 1:08:58 PM

what about cpu utilization when manipulating bookmarks? why should cpu spike to 100% and sit for an extended period? This has been a regression for a while

Yep, that's due to that overlaying toolbar at the bottom. Same thing happens at Cnet.com, for example. If you hide the toolbar the problem goes away.

4 problems with bookmarks library... awww

1 - "Add all open tabs to bookmarks" does not work (reported since 10.54 version and not fixed - DSK-296161)

2 - The alternating colors from bookmarks library lines disappear when some of the columns is disabled ("nick", for example)

3 - DSK-306234 (After Opera 10.60 restart, Manage Bookmarks tab appears empty) still affects 10.61 on Linux and WinXP at least.

4 - The items in the bookmarks library and personal bar not open in the background when clicked with the mouse wheel.

Favicons for search engines are not shown! I created one for "YouTube" and I only see a magnifying glass. It worked well with 10.60.

There is a problem with eBay and images with the Release Candidates. I have eBay set to show 200 items at a time. With the RC versions of Opera many times Opera will only show like the first 20 product images and then quit. I have to refresh multiple times before Opera finally shows them all. I test this on my laptop and desktop same thing happens and pretty regularly.

I checked with other browsers like IE, Safari and Firefox and they didn't have this problem on either computer. So it is definitely something with Opera. I haven't noticed this problem anywhere but on eBay.

Uninstall 10.70 and install the 10.61 rc2

AKAPanamaJack Monday, August 2, 2010 2:52:16 PM

And another problem with all versions of Opera 10.6x is with the web site http://www.allegiantair.com/ and clicking on the seach button. It never does anything. With Opera 10.5x clicking the search button after entering everything in starts the search. Under 10.6x abaolutely nothing happens and there are no errors generated on the web page. The site works just fine under IE, Safari and Firefox.

Some bug:
When I choose RSS to check "every 5 minutes", it returns back "to check once an hour" after little bit of time (near 30 min.). And even I do not restart browser.
Сan someone confirm?

sa666666 Monday, August 2, 2010 2:58:51 PM

Favicons are not showing in the bookmarks menu in Linux (tested in several distros, in both 32 and 64bit mode). This started with the first RC.

Also, the --geometry commandline argument still isn't working, so the window can't be automatically positioned by window managers like KDE.

Flash problems with two many popular sites from my country...

1 - Go to...

http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Esportes/0,,GIM1297723-7824-FLAMENGO+BUSCA+NOVO+GOLEIRO+APOS+ESCANDALO+BRUNO,00.html

Change anything in the settings of the flash plug-in
Result: The browser returns to the previous page
Then, scroll down the page with the mouse wheel.
Result: The browser acts as if the user had pressed CTRL + TAB.

2 - Go to...

First video is played normally.
Change to any other video
Result: Video never loads.
