Dialogs and text input

New week, and a new snapshot. party

We have fixed the mail panel regression introduced with the previous snapshot, and improved on dialog modality on Mac. Mac users on older system will also find a very pleasant fix for ‘the slow typing issue.’ (Will be available in an upcoming Opera 10.62 update for the PowerPC crowd too.)

Known regressions
  • DSK-311905 [Mac] (Text input can be slow with a large number of bookmarks)
  • DSK-311564 [Windows] (The MSI installer may fail when upgrading an existing installation)
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Download
Note: If you are looking for a PowerPC build, please see our previous blog post.

Changelog
Core

Cross-platform
  • DSK-311417 (Crash on expanding items in the mail panel)

I have retested the MSI for Windows 7, Vista, and XP. They all installed fine. I am not normally a Windows tester, so I am not sure what to suggest. Please use the Classic installer instead, if you experience problems with the MSI.

Nice set of changes for the Mac. Thanks, guys. A fix on DSK-309866 is especially appreciated.

I'm having difficulty selecting text on this page. It seems to be specific to here. I can't click and drag to select text, but I can double-click to select blocks of text and use the Command-A shortcut to select all of it. Mac OS X 10.6 Opera 10.70 b9036.

Dierk HaasisEvo2Me Monday, August 30, 2010 8:05:58 PM

It suffices to delete the old EXE; I guess there's some mismatch between build numbers, like, the new one reporting an older one than the installed one.

PS: the developers should also take a look at the MSI start screen, there's some misplaced text [PLACEHOLDER still standing].

Jimmy Tsatsosjimmy_tsatsos Monday, August 30, 2010 8:06:52 PM

The MSI installer is broken for me too. (Installation was done over snapshot 9034, after selecting the language the InstallShield Wizard is shown normally but after clicking on Next and I Agree it shows that the installation completed successfully, but Opera wasn't installed at all)

Windows 7 x64

BecDeXorbin Monday, August 30, 2010 8:17:27 PM

Clicking middle mouse button once and then scrolling, scrolling stops after a while, usually almost immediately. I remeber this bug from few years ago, so this is a regression.

No fixes in win-build at all sad

middle-click scrolling - not working
https + user js - not working
blank start-bar - not fixed
wrong fonts on <H*> elements - not fixed
no line endings after js copy-paste

I don't even tell about bugs introduced many years ago. Im very sad

koimark Monday, August 30, 2010 8:27:29 PM

I can confirm problem with MSI-installer (Win 7 x64) - and also that problem is with opera.exe. Renaming opera.exe to operaold.exe solved problem and installation was successful.

The text above the comment box is CSS generated content, so you are not supposed to be able to select it.

About CORE-30829 (Overlayed dialogs can be covered by plug-ins). I think it's related. Go to http://www.radiozet.pl/externals/online-player/kanal_rock.html

With no specific mention of a fix for the "Mouse navigation buttons not working" regression, does that mean it wasn't fixed? On the one hand, I don't think you're in the habit of describing every single thing that was fixed, but on the other you did mention one of the other regressions as being fixed.

(XP SP3, 9036 on top of 9034)

Installer launches fine, does the normal extracting, etc... options all work fine... but when you click "I Agree" which would normally start the main install and begin backup/copying/replacing, it just flashes the dialog quickly, and continues to the "Completed" dialog.

Confirmed as well (still using 9034)

The list of regressions in each blog post contains bugs that appeared in this build. It will be updated for some time until we release a new snapshot, and start the process over.

Oh, in the textarea! I will look into that. Thank you for clarifying.

Update: I introduced a work around in the blog’s stylesheet and reported the appropriate bug as CORE-32361. Thank you for letting us know about this bug.

Confirmed also on a 3486 build. Anyway, I can select text using shift

Yirkha Monday, August 30, 2010 8:53:52 PM

Regarding the Win7 x64 installer bug -

The action IsUpgradingOlderThan95() inside your custom DLL fails because of a hard crash here. It's caused by VerQueryValueA(..., "\\StringFileInfo\\040904E4\\ProductName", ...) not returning any value. When I looked at the installed Opera.exe from the previous build, it had StringFileInfo block for locale "040904B0" instead. After patching that during installation from "04E4" to "04B0", it ran fine.

Finally, the version info resource in the newly installed snapshot is 040904B0, so this nonsense will happen again with the next build. Unless someone fixes it, that is :P

Pastor DavidLionandLamb Monday, August 30, 2010 8:53:59 PM

Ok the installer works fine, as soon as you delete the Opera folder in Programs. But why bother, this is still not working:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zvCUmeoHpw&html5=True

So we can conclude that Opera no longer is supporting HTML5. What gives with this?

elyon Monday, August 30, 2010 8:54:48 PM

Thanks for the new build!

Unfortunately, it still crashes if you compose a new email, but change the sender to another one of your accounts sad

Check you're gstreamer directory, it was missing in the build before.
If so, just copy it from you're stable build

Thank you for the fix for the "slow text bug" - I was waiting from some mention of a bug# on the changelog. I can't test today (at home I have 10.5 Leopard) but tomorrow I'll test it at work.

Indeed. We cannot possibly fix every bug at once. wink

I'm getting random crashes when either performing a search in the address field, by just typing "word" or "g word", selecting a previous search, and/or when clicking a first search result, on Google mostly.

Same bug was present (and introduced) in the previous build, and this guy and this one had it too.

Any more info on this?

They enable/disable stylesheets. Selectable in the menu under OMenu > Page > Style

In Opera 10.61, press Ctrl+F12 and go to Advanced > Shortcuts. Under 'Keyboard Setup', select 'Opera Standard', and click the 'Edit' button. Type 'user' in the search box. An entry reading 'Feature ExtendedShortcuts, g shift - Select author mode > Select user mode' will appear. This can be edited to toggle author/user mode with the keyboard shortcut of your choice. I could not find this option in the latest build.

I have a lot of random crashes with this and previous build. It can occur when I have clicked some link in page and right after that doing something else. (It seems) After restart same procedure (clicking same link) works just fine. Weird.

Thanks. In that case, Shift+G does work, still.
