Friday morning improvements

, , , , ,

It is Friday morning and most of my colleagues are not yet in the office (likely due to the fact that the Oslo office has a Christmas party this evening and they want to conserve their energy to party the night away later). However, I can't help but think that we have all these great fixes just lying around waiting to be tested. So why not put out a snapshot?

Ok then! Here is a new snapshot. Highlights include: Crash fixes, improved memory usage, mail panel improvements, extension fixes, a font-family settings fix, the preference to disable visual mouse gestures is back, prettier inline dropdown toolbars button styles, and a whole load of *nix fixes. How does that suit you? wink

One final thing I should mention. For now we have switched off WebSockets by default.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Ok, calm down! wink I forgot one changelog item. We renamed the installer! It is there now. wink

Reload the page if the link is still broken and it should work. Or use this link.

1. The site http://adf.ly doesn't work correctly. To test it just sign in and then use the menu (Home, Referrals, Tools, Account, Withdraw, Logout), whatever you choose you stay in the same page.

2. Video on this page doesn't load http://screenr.com/StL .

Windows 7 x64

EDIT: I love you Opera team, thank you for fixing this!

Horrible startup times are still a show stopper to me, affecting both the installer and the browser itself. Sticking to the beta until u guys figure this out (DSK-321463).

Surely you wont be the employee of the month since you wrote Olso instead of Oslo p cheers

arnaud lautierGrouick Friday, December 10, 2010 8:24:10 AM

Hi it seems I'm having some issue with the way Opera behave with our Adobe Flex application.
We send variables with the POST method from our application to a php script, those variables aren't accessible using the table $_POST but by using the variable HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA with the last 3 snapshots.

It is still here and it's preventing us to use Opera in this state.

I like plugin improvements, but I still get this error (since the last two builds I think) when trying to load a silverlight app:

[HttpWebRequest_WebException_RemoteServer]
Arguments: NotFound
Debugging resource strings are unavailable...

sad

Its an internal app at work for time registration and I have to use Firefox for that.

Erebos42 Friday, December 10, 2010 8:37:15 AM

The texts in the visual mouse gesture thing seem to have scrollbars. Otherwise: great work!

OS: Ubuntu 10.10

Edit: Apparently there are also scrollbars at empty pages in the Speeddial Page. Maybe it's a problem with the widescreen resolution?!

Windows 7 x64 still getting the creation of a "desktop.ini" file on my desktop everytime I run Opera.

Zdeněk Zikánzdenek.zikan Friday, December 10, 2010 8:42:48 AM

Compose key does not work properly in address bar. I think it is issue that has been here for more builds, but I haven't reported yet.

OS: Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)
I have Compose key mapped on my keyboard and use it for writing non-ascii characters. It works in all apps but Opera address bar. It works e.g. in textareas or google search box (the one which is next to the address bar). If I click into the address bar and press Compose + keys combination, it works only the for the first character and the first time after I focus on the address bar. So e.g. I can write "åsomething" but not "somethingå". If I write non-ascii character and delete it and try it again, it doesn't work either the second time. I have to un-focus and focus the address bar again.

Writing non-ascii characters by changing keyboard layout e.g. to Norwegian works fine in the address bar, it's only Compose that doesn't work properly.

Yup, still the scrollbars persist all around in ubuntu. Like in the security information popup from the address bar too. Hope it all gets fixed soon. smile

I'll try the mac build later. Looking good.

Awesome, thanks a lot for a new Snapshot. I will test it as soon as possible!

One small thing: I know that I can check for Extension updates through the Opera menu, but would it be possible to have an extra button on the internal Extension page, which triggers a search for updates?

Still problem to open a file enclosed in email. For example when I try to open file wrote in .pdf, Opera crashes sad

ken2k Friday, December 10, 2010 8:58:06 AM

Hi,

thx for the new snapshot.
But why can't I use mouse gesture within this green bounding box : http://files.myopera.com/ken2k/files/opera_gesture_bb.jpg ??

On Opera 10.x it worked perfectly, and small moves within the box represent at least 80% of my gesture movements.
So PLEASE, could you provide us information about this : will you let the user do small movements in a future release ?

Thx

As I mentioned above lol need time to wake up!
________________________________________________________________________

There is still a major bug in Opera which needs to be fixed! Linking an image in a dialogue box and afterwards trying to type some text beneath causes Opera to crash! Look @ this picture...

And there is still the bug of not-displaying favicons in the search bar!

Is it true that Opera 11.00 final will have hardware acceleration? Would be just PERFECT and make Opera the best browser just as it used to be.

Yes! Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately, bug (DSK-319312 or DSK-321400) with re-opened page position still is not fixed.
Please, pay attention to it, that's a really nice Opera's feature.

They just don't work. For example I have configured "x ctrl, k" to close a tab (as in emacs). This was working very well in previous opera releases. Since the opera 11 beta (I think) they do not work.

Charlie ClarkMuzzlehatch Friday, December 10, 2010 9:35:37 AM

Great - loads of Mail fixes! Of course, some long standing ones such as missing newlines when replying remain but I've sort of grown used to it! The new stuff really does increase usability. When do we get idenitities? ;-)

Tab-stacking is an extremely elegant solution that is "quietly" useful and does not get in the way.

Anyone know why http://www.chip.de/s_specials/c1_static_special_index_31891802.html will not load at all with the NotScript extension installed?

(This worked in 1111, haven't tried 1136 yet) -- set opera:config#UserPrefs|Gesture Threshold lower than the default of 5. 0 worked for me; possibly a bit too sensitive...

BTW, DON'T try a negative number. At least in 1111, a negative gesture threshold crashes opera:config and you have to edit operaprefs.ini to get it back! (DSK-320374)
