Opera 11.00 Release Candidate 3

, , ,

Hello, my name is Ruarí and I don't have a life, other than testing Opera all day long. Luckily none of my colleagues have lives either, which means we can spend all our time making Opera better than ever. Hence we have a third RC for you with yet more fixes, and hopefully even better stability! bigsmile

Highlights include some more crash fixes, and a few more tweaks to skins, Tab stacking and Extensions.

Note: As this is a Release Candidate, the installation folder will default to the latest stable installation folder.

Quick bug:

1) Stack two tabs and collapse the stack
2) Hover over the stack until the thumbnail previews are visible
3) Quickly click on each thumbnail

This will make the whole stack disappear from the tab bar, only leaving the 'stack arrow'.

Joshua PhelpsJoshuaPhelps Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:35:04 PM

I woke up to two builds today!?

Downloading the RC3. smile

You can work around this for now by starting Opera as follows
opera -noargb &

Malgalad Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:36:21 PM

Emm.. Will non-focused address bar after the start of Opera be fixed before release? Or is it treated as "feature"?

The same thing happens when quickly switching between two tabs in the same stack using the RMB + scroll wheel shortcut/gesture. Doing that also makes the wrong tab get focus, just like it has for so many Opera versions.

Current tab in group - than Ctrl-T (or click on "Plus" tab) & new (EMPTY) tab creates IN current group.

But by logic EMPTY tab must be created OUT of current tabs group - EMPTY tab is unrelated within the meaning with non-empty tabs of current group.

Is it bug or feature?

Not confirmed, new empty tabs creates out of a stack... Do you use RC3?
UPD: Uhm, sorry, this happens if you use option "Open new tab next to current". It's already known issue since RC2, AFAIR...

NicolasNickko Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:42:17 PM

I have see a bug with the ctrl+shift+v shortcut, it open a new tab systematically.

This happens if "Open new tab next to active" is checked, AND the active tab is a stacked tab other than the last tab in the stack (if the last tab in the stack is active, the new tab will open outside the stack).

In build 1145 works my dream function. When I moved tab to the second monitor, new window was opened at the second monitor. But later version (I have now RC2) doesn't do it again. Why?

Bug report send (2x)

Pitiphong PhongpattranontDeathscytheSephiroth Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:44:49 PM

I've found some bugs
1. Facebook chat don't play sound when I get msg
2. After make tab stacking with pinned tab, then close all tabs other than pinned tab, The pin icon still on the tab - http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/3760/screenshot25531215at233.png
3. I can't press Cmd+` to switch through windows cyclically
4. When I'm on another keyboard layout (Thai for my case) I can't use the keyboard shortcut key properly

hope all of them get fixed before full version release smile

BTW. I still want auto tab stacking back smile

P.S. Thanks all of you for such a great Opera version smile

Presumably that's related to what Haavard mentioned about Frankenstein builds on RC1.

Installer annoyance:
I expect that the installer detects my current Opera language and doesn't try to install it using my systems default language.

And again... an option to automatically stack the children and it's parent. Please I'm begging you cry

René-Gilles DeberdtNao Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:49:04 PM

@SMGMG> Agreed. I thought the same. (Not that the French version isn't good, but I'm used to the English one.)

Re: the new RC.

All of the tab stack bugs I mentioned earlier are still there.
Actually I think the "double/triple arrows in a row" issue has worsened. I can't seem to reestablish them by simply expanding and collapsing them again...

Ah well, hopefully this is being worked on. I didn't expect such a quick fix anyway. wink

Maybe a clue for the team: there is one particular 'loner' arrow that, if clicked, will expand all (!) of my stacks at once. Well, all of the stacks located to its left at least. I tried several times. When I click it again, it collapses them all again... Very odd.

Any plans to allow resetting the arrow size to a minimal width?

<EDIT> If I don't attempt to move stacks to another part of the tab bar, I won't get the buggy arrows. It seems to be linked only to the moving of stacks. And again, stack moving is buggy -- I can't move them past a certain position on the tab bar.

I liked the speed dial the way it was. Now there's empty space on the sides. And mouse gestures are still too hard to pull off sometimes.

This bugs me a lot.
Is it a bug or is it supposed to be like this from now? I never get my mouse gestures right anymore, I have to be sooo careful to pull them off and that takes so much time it's not really efficient to use it anymore.

Asires Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:55:35 PM

Serious UI bug
http://files.myopera.com/Asires/screenshots/stack-bug.png -

When "Open new tab next to active" is on and new tab is opened from last page in a stack. Also some tab must be after stack.

Cyro Wednesday, December 15, 2010 4:55:36 PM

The winstaler is picking up the wrong language when my regional settings is Brazil. It's selecting European Portuguese as default. It should be Portuguese (Brazil). Please fix this before going final, it's a showstopper.

I don't have any problems with mouse gestures myself... Been using them for years, too. I just thought the threshold was too large so I reduced it to 3. From time to time I'll get a |_ move (close tab) that refuses to register, but I just do it again and it works.

Also, don't forget that after 11.00 comes 11.01, then 11.02 etc... wink Apparently Opera is planning to release for Christmas, it's a PR stunt or something, it doesn't matter -- they'll fix everything as soon as possible, whether they've already gone gold or not. It's not the end of the world. 10.50 also had its issues (mostly in stability) but then they released 10.5x with plenty of fixes, and then 10.6x which was simply fantastic. New features bring new regressions, that's the case with all 'big' software, because it's such a huge codebase, and you have to coordinate plenty of different developer teams. Not a piece of cake believe me.
