Introducing Opera 11.50 "Swordfish"

According to Wikipedia, the swordfish is a highly migratory, predatory fish characterized by a long, flat bill. Its streamlined physique allows it to cut through the water with great ease and agility. It mainly relies on its speed and agility in the water to catch its prey. Swordfish are also known for their powerful jumps, called breaching.

The Next version of Opera, 11.50, is called Swordfish. We are preparing a first look as we speak, so check back in the coming days for more details.

Excellent

@Havaard

will 11.50 add a few of the features that have been requested and fix the remaining bugs from 11.10? and also re introduce the "Force Resync" button for Opera Link?

Commaster Monday, May 2, 2011 6:43:27 PM

idea

I still have "Sync Now" button in 11.10.

sTeeVeboY Monday, May 2, 2011 6:47:01 PM

Will it contain full hardware acceleration like IE9 or maybe better or even possibly at its best?

Maybe a brand new javascript engine? A new look by default would also be preferable. Something more modern and appropriate for a build release like "Swordfish"! yes

Where abouts? I do mean once Link is enabled and running a force resync option would be useful

No no, I didn't miss it, but it should be optimized and tuned for directX and wide-scale use. To be honest, it should blow every other browser away, especially IE9! lol

Something like... wow, I didn't even touch the mouse button and opera is already done with loading that site! Incredibly fast! bigeyes

Just a word of caution. Just because the labs build had 11.50 in them, DOES NOT MEAN THESE FEATURES ARE 11.50 FINAL FEATURES...

I'm guessing the teams working on these features are constantly re-basing their work on the latest internal builds...

Perhaps someone from Opera could clarify this, before peoples expectations get out of hand... Other PR Nightmare may follow....

Satan D. Lucifersupertrol Monday, May 2, 2011 7:12:45 PM

11.50 will feature HWA

Swordfish are also known for their powerful jumps, called breaching.

how much faster than 10.50?

we all know that 10.50 is 7x faster than 10.10 in benchmarks and sunspider

is it over9000? (just kidding)

maybe it can beat the previous record of 20302 record in Peackeeper

the 1st build will be my main browser replacing 11.10

BTW:
Is the vector graphics of the swordfish available somewhere?
EPS or SVG would be just fine ...

I think that the name "Ragnarök" is much coller than "Swordfish"
And a picture - angry viking with big axe in one hand, a shield in another and viking helmet devil

Ragnarök is the name of the HTML5 Parser. Swordfish the name of the developing branch 11.50.

Can opera team still make updates for opera 11.10? there are a lot of bugs

These updates are called new snapshots which will result in the final version of Opera 11.50 called Swordfish.

But Swordfish will be with this HTML5 Parser and WebGl or only with HWA?
By the way - Ragnarök has version number "11.50" too rolleyes

Finally new post (h) I love opera and any other things doesn't matter p

János, Vinczevinczej Monday, May 2, 2011 7:41:09 PM

Swordfish will have WebGL? (Opera Labs has already a fine demo.)

Applemind Monday, May 2, 2011 7:46:40 PM

I hope that Swordfish will integrate a pdf reader as next release of Firefox. An integrate pdf reader will be wonderful for Linux and Mac users... and Windows users too!

It already has a new JS engine (Carakan) and a new look. Got them both with 10.5

Most people do not experience stability problems or data loss, so your comment is misplaced at best. If you are really having problems, report them properly instead of vague comments like that, that aren't even representative of most people's experience.

Then read my original post. There were also likely 11.0 and 10.50 internal builds with hardware acceleration too, as most companies use a continuous integration development method. Just because the labs releases were 11.50, DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT 11.50 WILL BE HWA.

So it's time to move on into a more modern direction, don't you think so? At least a more modern look should arrive in 11.50.

mubaidr Monday, May 2, 2011 8:10:21 PM

spock Wait continues.... knight

Am ready to grab snapshot and replace my Opera 11.10 headbang

Lukaslksd Monday, May 2, 2011 8:11:21 PM

1. GPU HWA

2. Performance adaptive browsing -> change ( on the spot) max connections / connections to server based on latency <- would be nice

It already has a more modern look. It has already moved in a more modern direction. Stop it.

Just stop it. You don't know how "modern" is defined anyway, and you are not being helpful or constructive. You are just being nasty and bashing Opera, claiming that it isn't "modern."
