Swordfish jumps out of the water

, , , ,

Today we released Opera 11.50 aka Swordfish. With its new streamlined body and highly powerful interior it becomes the most dangerous predator on the internet waters.ninja

Opera Swordfish, with its innovative Speed Dial extensions, makes your Speed Dial more alive than ever before. Now you can get all the information you need straight from your Speed Dial, without the need to go to the page. All of this is made possible thanks to the smart Speed Dial extensions, which you can download and install from our addons portal.

Beside that, Opera 11.50 allows you to easily synchronize your passwords between computers.
This way you can access your favorite services, without repeatedly typing in your passwords on different computers.

Opera 11.50 is equipped with our newest rendering engine - Presto 2.9.168 -- featuring up to 20% faster rendering of CSS and SVG, support for HTML5 tag <time>, Session History and Navigation and many other enhancements.

We would like to thank you all for helping us out with the testing and your constructive feedback. smile If you have Opera 11.50 RC5 installed, then you already have the final version.

Google docs appears to be broken. My spreadsheet just keeps refreshing and refreshing, and I can't update any fields.

Also the ECMA 2.6.2 reads: Total Tests Ran: 10934 | Pass: 7061 | Fail: 3873 | Failed To Load: 66

The testcase you provided works fine on our systems, so you might want to check your own browser settings.

Why does turning off the document bar (address bar) for one document (tab) now disable it for all tabs? Surely this is a major bug?

YaroslavFeyFre Friday, July 1, 2011 8:51:40 PM

Wand does not works after update on some sites. Is it only my case or somebody have such bug too?

minho Friday, July 1, 2011 8:51:42 PM

Mail client bug?
"Categories" is automatically enabled when I receive a new mail message in my GMX (imap) account. Someone else noticed this behavior?

Another bug? If confirm exit is disabled, Continue from last time doesn't work. Closing with X button on Windows XP Home SP3. Opera closes fast, but I prefer to have my last session remembered.

Opera 11:50 is very bad.

High consumption of RAM pictured below with only two tabs open (tab Opera and Google Desktop)

[img]http://666kb.com/i/buuggfbsewwq71fzm.jpg

Still the same problem as reported in previous RC, downloaded files arrive corrupted.

[img]http://666kb.com/i/buug90o8j37y1vl82.gif

I tested the same links in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer and the file comes without problems.

I noticed the same problem in Linux (openSUSE 11.4) and Mac version 10.6.8.

I made no setting in opera: config that could cause such error.

Also install no extension / addon

I will be conducting tests in next version, the prince observe that consumes less RAM

minho Saturday, July 2, 2011 2:20:25 AM

15% of physical RAM is pretty cool. The browser will let that, even release it, if it's needed for something else. And yours at half of that anyway.

Edited.

This new UI could use a few tweaks. For example, since the tabs are now smaller, you could shift everything up a few pixels and reduce the empty space.

Good morning, I have installed the new Opera in a different folder in my applications folder, and my favourites don't react like before. They open in a new tab, but the new tab is not active. Can I change it? I am on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

Possible bug: When adding Google+ to SpeedDial, there is no thumbnail, just white space.

Found a weird issue that I believe I've actually encountered before but ignored for some reason. It's on a web page that I created

http://www.rmphantasy.net/x_Test/New_Site/

When I click the on the logo/name of the site it should bring you to the homepage, which it does. However, so should the Home tab, but when you click the home tab, it shifts the page down almost as if it's adding more of a top margin to #bodyarea.

If I link the Home tab to "#" then it's fine. If it's linked to ".', which it is, or even to "http://www.rmphantasy.net/x_Test/New_Site/" then it does this weird shifting.

I have noticed it too, even on Opera 11.11: there is a shift of the text downward when you click on Home.

This is the way mine is set. No problems here. One time, after a snapshot install, I found the Continue from Last Time to be unchecked. Other than that, I've never had a problem.

Glad it's not just me. Last time I had a problem with my website in Opera, I posted about it here and they fixed it in the next snapshot. I hope that's true this time around, too. :-D

Please, make the Flash plugin not crash on every other Youtube video when you try to maximise, minimise, fast-forward or rewind. This is base functionality.

Hasn't happened to me. You sure it's not the fault of the plugin and not Opera?

Bhikkhu PesalaPesala Saturday, July 2, 2011 1:44:28 PM

Its working for me too, but only if Unite is not enabled.

Unite exit policy is disabled, so Opera just closes as expected, but then Opera doesn't continue from last time, which is not expected.

Reported Bug as: DSK-341398

xordae Saturday, July 2, 2011 1:44:33 PM

I'm using Chromium nightly and Opera side-by-side, and these crashes have never happened on Chromium.

I copied my profile folder from my 11.11 build which displayed it fine(as shown in the image I had uploaded). So what would have changed in my settings?

If you have trouble with an extension, than take it up with the developer

Why I won't be using Opera 11.50 (long time user 5y++)

Still poor support for 3G connectivity ( how come opera mini works great?!? ), on high latency networks Opera times out ~50% of connections, that translates to pages that never finish to load, pages that never start to load and heaps of other problems. It is sad that even Chrome (that i hate) can do what browser should in a first place that is load a web page.

No HWA, last browser left standing without HWA what a shame.

Start page plugins - another great thing that I will strip from the browser ( opera:config ) like i did with
* torrent client
* mail client
* unite
and 50% of other bloatware.

Skin - what did you do with the default skin ?!? If i would like to use Chrome I would have download it. Instead of having original Opera skin, we have yet another Chrome clone.

Flash player playback, still the same problem each time browser writes to disk, flash player hickups... cmon, I did tolerate it on slow Atom netbook but not on a desktop replacement Laptop.

Are you on a neutral 3G network ?
Connection errors are often due to the ISP which restricts its network.
Try Opera Turbo (if it is not restricted too).

In your case, you can change :
opera:config#Network|HTTPLoadingDelayedTimeout
to a higher value. (It is the HTTP timeout in seconds)

Edit : You can also change it to 0 for no timeout.

I think it will solve your problem wink
Tell me if it worked up

Do you really need it ? It is just some advertising stuff currently.
Opera has a fast enough rendering engine, even more with the 11.50 version.

It is not necessary, because it does not take any memory when you do not use it.

Effectively, there are some problems with plugins generated by javascript since 11.50. I hope it will be fixed soon... rolleyes

Relevance being.. Opera Flash fucks up on Youtube and will crash the browser if you switch between full-screen and windowed or jump back and forth along the video. Chromium, as a reference, doesn't.

All Russian-language forums filled up with one question - how to get the drop-down arrow to address? As Google is also a very popular question. For several years, never, no one asked the question - how to remove the arrow? The question is - who came up with a wise idea? And it may be worth the return arrow in place and prevents anyone, even enjoy the setting - opera:config#Show Dropdown Button In Addressfield

Problem in Opera Turbo saved data calculation:

No, this is a deliberate change. People found it very confusing that it only worked on the active tab. We first did this for the Bookmarks bar, and now also for the other 'in tab' toolbars - note that the concept of 'in tab' toolbars behaving differently from the 'browser' toolbars was not something that can easily be grasped.

I upgraded from 10.54 (!) to Swordfish, and am very pleased with the results! Way fast, and looks like you've solved many of the memory and flash issues.

Q. I love the mouse-gesture help circle; is there a way to change the color? It's hard to see on a white background

Q. Are there newer benchmarks like Acid3 where I can show of my shiny new O to people still stuck in FFIE?
