Opera 11.51 (Swordfish) Release Candidate 1

, ,

Whilst we continue work towards Opera 12.00 (Wahoo), there are some important bugs we need to fix in the 11.50 (Swordfish) line. Hence there will be an 11.51 maintenance/stability release between 11.50 and 12.00. Here is the first release candidate for 11.51.

We won't be releasing "Opera Next" packages of this build as it is an update to the stable browser and should not be installed over Opera Next Wahoo packages, since that would effectively be a downgrade (which is never supported).

Try this out as an improved stable Opera, whilst you continue to test our latest features and improvements in the continuing Wahoo Opera Next snapshot series!

Note: Remember as this is a maintenance update we are only interested in regressions since 11.50! Please do not report anything else here.

Does it contain all of the improvements made between the 11.50 and the last Opera Next build ?
EDIT : Looks like no worried cry

No it certainly does not. The changelog above lists the changes between 11.50 and this build. Al other features and improvements are for Opera 12.00.

Look out for another Opera 12.00 snapshot at a latter date. There will be more.

"as it is an update to the stable browser and should not be installed over Opera Next Swordfish packages"

You mean "Opera Next Wahoo packages" right?

"DSK-332672 (Mac OS 10.7 'Lion' support and integration): Including new full screen mode"

What does this mean?

I know about that.

But the fix no. in this snapshot is "DSK-332672 (Mac OS 10.7 'Lion' support and integration): Including new full screen mode".

The fix no. in previous Opera Next snapshot is "DSK-332671 (Implement support for Lion's new Full Screen application mode)".

EDIT: Ruari, are you there? If yes, then solve my above confusion.

Nice update for those on stable builds.

New UI's bug.

There's no space between address field and extension's bar when both placed next to each other. Nothing important, but not elegant wink

IusedtobeOOlli91 Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:45:29 PM

What about the new scrollbars on Lion? This is no full Lion support!down

MossMan Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:47:54 PM

Does this one fix the thing where widgets crash if they're open during Windows shutdown? It's a problem I have seen on two different machines (both XP) for different users and different widgets.

There's an error message about a DLL which can't be opened because Windows is shutting down, then the widget process is killed after another five seconds or so and Windows closes.

This has only been happening since the last stable release.

(I can't test it easily since I'm using the Opera 12 pre-alphas...)

Edit: I see that the RC can be installed parallel to the 12.00 Opera Next builds, so I've installed it and will see if the error happens when I shut down later...

Swapnil RustagiSwapnil99pro Tuesday, August 23, 2011 1:01:33 PM

Can anyone from Opera confirm that this RC has support for the new Mac OS Lion Fullscreen mode.

DSK-332671 is a subtask of DSK-332672. Or to put it another way DSK-332672 includes DSK-332671.

EDIT: I have updated the changelog to avoid further confusion.

It should do yes.

MossMan Tuesday, August 23, 2011 1:12:15 PM

Oh dear. Widget crashed again with a DLL initialisation error upon Windows shutdown... sad

I have been getting a crash when installing the stable release for the last few months as well - also when it's trying to close the widget, I think. Probably related.

Confirmed for Windows 7 x64. However, here the symptoms are a bit different. See also thread in Opera forum http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1043082
I've also submitted a bug report about a month ago (DSK-342343). Let's hope there will be an 11.52 with this one fixed.

What about fix for the closed pdf redrawing issue? When I open pdf file in a tab and close it, screen picture is not invalidated and stays here until i change tab to another one.

RemyMaymee Tuesday, August 23, 2011 2:17:58 PM

Watch out! After upgrading Init mail error and you can't see any mail any more. Downgrading fixed the problem. (Win7, 64-bit)

That has been fixed in one of Opera 12 snapshots.

The changelog says

"DSK-340165 Painting issue after PDF is closed"

Same here... Although I think the last time I saw it was in 11.5x, I don't think I have seen it in 12.0

The problem is, the only widget I used regularly (Opera's twiget) is in a such a poor state of repair, it's barely usable anymore, hence I don't use widgets as much as I used to.

nimu_channimuchan Tuesday, August 23, 2011 3:34:11 PM

Thank you!! up

Torrente Torrente Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:09:43 PM

Any chance for this getting fixed before the final:
1. Shift + Right click-Paste&Go doesn't work.
2. Shift + Enter doesn't work in speed dial tab.

The only widgets I have much experience with run on stable builds (ie. 11.5x). The simplest clock on this machine and "Time and Date" on my wife's netbook. Both are run on startup and stay running till shutdown, which is why I know about this problem.

I agree that widgets seems to be something Opera got very excited about and then immediately abandoned again (just like Unite). Hardly any new widgets appeared after the initial rush and most have problems in the newer builds. sad

minho Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:26:31 PM

Fix DSK-342110 and DSK-309431 before final release please.

minho Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:34:47 PM

Press shift+f12, "Buttons" tab, "Mail view" category, add "Show feeds" to address bar.
Nothing happens when I click on the new button.
Confirm?

win 7 x64

minho Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:39:55 PM

Attachment filters are not working in mail client.
it was working in 11.50 final.
Confirm?

win 7 x64

I'm still seeing a problem when panel buttons are top and wrapped to multiple lines...

http://imgur.com/meDg5

I get this upgrading from 11.11 and on a clean install (both Windows 7).

11.50 was the same.

It's distracting enough that I'm still on 11.11 for daily use.

DSK-340248 (Extension manager eats CPU) - At last!!!cheers

sTeeVeboY Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:59:10 PM

Hey Ruarí,

DSK-340248 (Extension manager eats CPU)

Only partially fixed! When you try to click fast on buttons, then it happens instantly like it should, but minimizing this extension manager window and trying to resize it works definitely very slow. Try this please!

In Opera Wahoo builds it is completely fixed!

Should defintely be fixed before final 11.51 release, I guess.

Pastor DavidLionandLamb Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:59:25 PM

How about putting out a new snapshot for the Wahoo platform today. Most likely you guys have it ready to go, and you are just sitting on it. Come on, let's see it today....

Bhikkhu PesalaPesala Tuesday, August 23, 2011 5:45:27 PM

DSK-341398 — "Continue from last time" fails if "Unite Exit Policy = 1" seems to be fixed.

Drop Down Button in Address Field is still missing by default, causing unnecessary problems for users. Anyone who wants to hide it can disable this setting. The default should be changed.

Showing of address bar seems to be broken. Turn off in one tab hides it in all tabs — it should be tab specific. Turning it back on again doesn't always work, so different tabs do show different toolbars. I use a shortcut

View address bar, 6 | View address bar, 0

View Menu is the same — seems to be broken in some tabs.

Edit: Not a regression, because the same thing happens on 11.50.

Opera 11.51 ? Come on. Where is 12 pre alpha ?

Jeroen Rooversyourruinreverse Tuesday, August 23, 2011 7:48:41 PM

I was under the impression that opera-next updates for intermittent to-be-stable releases would be maintained (so that users enjoying package managers could simply bet on opera-next to have the latest, say 11* builds but still perhaps mask the alpha 12* builds. Alas.

Pastor DavidLionandLamb Tuesday, August 23, 2011 9:22:44 PM

well it has to be that there is a problem with the Hardware Acceleration that is planned for 12.00 Alpha.

I mean what else could cause them to stall on this twice now?
