Opera 11.60 (Tunny) Beta

,

The Opera 11.60 (Tunny) beta is now available for download.

Tunny introduces major changes to the both the user interface and the core of the browser (Presto). In addition to numerous bug fixes and other improvements, these are some of the highlights:

  • A new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök), which improves compatibility
  • A new version of our Carakan JavaScript engine with improved memory management on complex web applications
  • Full ECMAScript 5.1 support
  • CSS3 radial gradients
  • Support for HTML5 custom scheme and content handlers
  • Fixes and tweaks to the Featherweight skin, including a new Featherweight address field
  • A star to the right in the address field lets you quickly add or remove pages from your bookmarks or Speed Dial. It lights up when the current page already exist as a bookmark or Speed Dial

Opera's built-in e-mail client has also received a major facelift:

  • Changed the layout to work well with wide screens
  • The list of mails now shows two lines: Subject and sender
  • You can group messages by date, unread status or pinned status
  • We cleaned up the looks, including new icons and simplified toolbars
  • A new overlay dialog for settings lets you easily change the layout and other things
  • "Pin" messages with a single click for attention
  • Faster mail fetching thanks to QRESYNC support and several backend optimizations

Work on Wahoo (Opera 12) with hardware acceleration is continuing in parallel with this, and we are planning new Opera 12 snapshots next week.

Lucalucaviozzi Thursday, November 10, 2011 8:24:19 AM

mhmhm dunno if it's intentional or it's a bug but if i go on the very top left corner with my mouse (where there's the OPERA button) i cannot click on it :| I have to go a bit down to click on the menu (dunno if u understand what i mean).
Is it intentional? Personally i don't like it :|

MossMan Thursday, November 10, 2011 8:40:18 AM

It's the same as the last snapshot (build 1147 for Windows)

I also got the error 72 (something to do with creating a quicklaunch link) but just clicked "ignore".

dracodraconair Thursday, November 10, 2011 8:40:24 AM

I still have non existing unread messages and two october bars.

Wow, I just press F5 and I got the beta, how great

ouzowtfouzoWTF Thursday, November 10, 2011 8:44:12 AM

I hope my crashers from the previous two snapshots are not in this beta worried

Christos Lazaridischrislaz Thursday, November 10, 2011 8:49:31 AM

@krychu90 it seems like it is the same build number, so changes wink

Thanks, testing now.

Sergei Stolyarovcancel Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:07:12 AM

Is it possible to change mail/feed message presentation? Huge subject looks not very good.

Xombiemubaidr Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:07:40 AM

Opera 12 builds! yes p

DanStudio Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:08:01 AM

Bug with textarea's scrollbars when using Ctrl+F:
if you found a string you've been searching for, you won't be able to click on it and edit, because the scrollbar moves to the top and scrolls all the text to the beginning.

VERY annoying.

- - - - - - - - - - -
Баг с скроллбаром области текста при поиске через Ctrl+F:

Francesco De Domenicofrankdd89 Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:08:23 AM

lol no changes since the last rc, i think that print bug should be a release blocking one

unlikely that they aren't since it is still yesterdays 1147 wink

Now that it's beta - as said earlier - devs will concentrate on polishing as well wink
Those 3 issues as well as this one are still present... I guess the ones concerning the Audio-element can be delayed for 12, but that random JS-on-off-thing should be sorted out b4 a release...

Am I the only one to have problems with videos in IFRAME ? I only have a black rectangle in Opera, works fine in Firefox (and probably in other browsers)...

nedko Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:37:11 AM

wow, everything is just fine, except for the RSS reader - the title font is too gross. This has two downsides. first - it is difficult for me to read it. second - it is too easy for everyone else to read it smile I don't feel comfortable when people 3 meters behind my back are able to read my readings.

PengePenge4 Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:37:27 AM

So maybe we get the Opera Reader with 12.00 final or is the deadline still tight? smile

kriko Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:39:14 AM

Nice. Does this version going to ship with GPU accelerated rendering, or it will be 12.0 ?

oxygenroot Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:41:22 AM

fast and works well smile gmail doesn't show the google+ part (shows it when the network settings identification is changed). mail part looks clean and beautiful smile still not possible to organise feeds manually (in a folder or otherwise), which are arranged alphabetically as it was in 11.5. also, if subject size can be changed in the mail/feed, will be good.

nedko Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:43:26 AM

BTW are there any plans that the mail composer be able to accept pictures from the clipboard?

compare these two workflows:

1. press PrintScreen
2. go to Mail Composer and paste the picture

against

1. press PrintScreen
2. open MS Paint
3. paste picture
4. save as file
5. go to Mail Composer
6. click Insert Image
7. find the picture file and insert it into mail
8. delete the file

Definitely after 11.60. Its likely to be included in 12, but I think theres nothing 100% sure.

Much as I love Opera Reader it depends upon the proposed CSS extensions being accepted to have any chance and to be honest it needs some work on it so that you can select text instead of scrolling.

Satan D. Lucifersupertrol Thursday, November 10, 2011 10:19:42 AM

Please remove "opera:gpu" before 11.60 final

it looks awkward and stupid since 11.60 wont have HWA..version 12 is

little things do matter though(please dont remove this comment)alien

Karolhexplor Thursday, November 10, 2011 10:21:24 AM

Great job on mail client. One question. Is it a bug ? I'm getting notified about spam messages too. All email clients ignores spam folder when it comes to notification. Is there a way to disable that (except unsubscribing) ?

See screenshot:

BTW does anyone else still have sporadic offerings to translate things into Chinese?

2 BTW - the RECAPTCHA iFrame on TinyPic doesn't work in Opera

Thanks ruario. Deleted & installed service from unite.opera.com. It fixed issue with web server and it's working fine. However, UJS Manager is still failing.

No, you're not. But it seems as though few are. I mentioned before that on some sites I get script written all over the page or where an ad would be, rather than what is (usually) an ad. I turned off all ad blocking and it didn't matter. The weird thing is, if I click on my iFrames button to turn on iFrames, the script goes away.

11.60 beta cannot render:

http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php

www.myway.com does not stop loading

the last good build was 1139

Windows XP SP 3

also the installer hosed one of my windows xp sp3 systems. It caused slow Windows boot times. The only fix was install an older image. That one is Athlon XP 2600+, 3 GB RAM, XP SP3

Christos Lazaridischrislaz Thursday, November 10, 2011 11:15:22 AM

I just noticed that if I try to subscribe to a feed via the icon on the address bar, I only get the option to "Subscribe to this feed using Opera mail" only. The rest of the options do not show up. Anyone else seeing this?

张伟wei7885395 Thursday, November 10, 2011 11:18:41 AM

Bug: when i open two tab with two online video playing, the one will be paused, and the other still work, but working out of DOM...

On MacOS X it's quite hard to expand an e-mail thread. You can't click the lower half of the plus sign, you must click either the upper half or above (!) te plus sign.

Very slick for a beta.. Not long to an RC I think....

Vladimir PanteleevThe_CyberShadow Thursday, November 10, 2011 12:04:42 PM

The way the speed dial lags behind when you open the side panel doesn't look very good when you have a speed dial wallpaper.

One problem I found is that if you click the new "Expand" button, and then close the side panel, the message doesn't resize, so it stays there with free space on the right (you can see the shadow and gray wallpaper you don't normally see in "expanded" view).

Swapnil RustagiSwapnil99pro Thursday, November 10, 2011 12:17:26 PM

Opera team, you for got to mention one thing in the Beta changelog-

Support for clearing Flash Local Storage Objects from within Opera

(CORE-35923 (NPAPI Missing support for ClearSiteData): This allows Flash (and other plug-in) data to be cleared)

kriko Thursday, November 10, 2011 12:25:11 PM

Nice update status icon on every mail entry, however it doesn't disappear on linux version when it's done checking, I have to hover mouse over mail entry elements to return to previous graphical state.
