Opera 11.60 (Tunny) Beta

,

The Opera 11.60 (Tunny) beta is now available for download.

Tunny introduces major changes to the both the user interface and the core of the browser (Presto). In addition to numerous bug fixes and other improvements, these are some of the highlights:

  • A new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök), which improves compatibility
  • A new version of our Carakan JavaScript engine with improved memory management on complex web applications
  • Full ECMAScript 5.1 support
  • CSS3 radial gradients
  • Support for HTML5 custom scheme and content handlers
  • Fixes and tweaks to the Featherweight skin, including a new Featherweight address field
  • A star to the right in the address field lets you quickly add or remove pages from your bookmarks or Speed Dial. It lights up when the current page already exist as a bookmark or Speed Dial

Opera's built-in e-mail client has also received a major facelift:

  • Changed the layout to work well with wide screens
  • The list of mails now shows two lines: Subject and sender
  • You can group messages by date, unread status or pinned status
  • We cleaned up the looks, including new icons and simplified toolbars
  • A new overlay dialog for settings lets you easily change the layout and other things
  • "Pin" messages with a single click for attention
  • Faster mail fetching thanks to QRESYNC support and several backend optimizations

Work on Wahoo (Opera 12) with hardware acceleration is continuing in parallel with this, and we are planning new Opera 12 snapshots next week.

I found a bug, though I think its not related specifically to this build.

When I receive an email from a hotmail friend quoting my previously sent message, opera does not collapse the quoted text.

Seriously, is there any way to disable the time-sorting header lines in the mail list?

Did you try any settings? set it too no grouping

Yes, I've changed the grouping setting to "Do not group" but it makes no difference. I'd also like to turn off sorting of messages so they are displayed in the order in which they were received. So far, the only way I've found to accomplish these is to click a column header, click it again to sort in the opposite direction, and then click a third time to return the display to its natural order.

opera:config#Mail|DefaultMailSorting is set to "-1".

opera:config#Mail|MailGroupingMethod is also set to "-1".

But as soon as I receive a new message the grouping indicators are back and the new message is displayed at the top of the list rather than at the bottom where it would naturally be.

Okay, what am I missing?
Is the NEW LOOK for the MyOpera Mail supposed to be only for Windows Vista and above or something?
Why is the MyOpera LOOK still the exact same as what I had before?
I have Windows XP Home SP3.
Am I supposed to see the NEW MyOpera LOOK with that?
If so, how?

Not only that, but I also couldn't manage to compose a new E-mail when I installed this Beta version. All those Buttons (Compose, Delete, Etc.) were NOT active.

Heck, even the uninstall didn't go without incident afterwards. I got an error with Revo Uninstaller.

Are you confusing the My Opera Mail webmail service with the Opera Mail built-in mail client?

I'm referring to the LOOK of the BETA MyOpera E-mail function.
You know ... where I go read my MyOpera E-mails and write new ones.

So, who knows? Maybe I AM thinking of the wrong thing.

You are in the wrong place at least... This is the place to discuss the latest snapshots of the Opera browser, not the webmail interface of My Opera Mail. You probably want to go here

I have tried post beta build clean install and there is still the same problem. Page loading stops on elements: 116/116 and the page does not respond on any keyboard or mouse actions. When I hit the cancel button it will start to behave correctly... Another tabs are working ok.

jennifer and Saurabh, stop discussing that nonsense - this is not a place for joking. This is a development blog.

If you keep on doing that then I will have to report to moderators - enough of this.

Not sure if others experienced this on vista home edition - Each youtube video page takes about 250 to 300 mb. If I leave few youtube pages open on separate tabs for few hours & return, Opera will be running with memory consumption of almost about 1 gb.

As I close each tab, I notice the memory consumption goes down. The thing is, when Opera is running at 1 gb memory consumption, it becomes very unresponsive.

I have the same problem in 12.00 build 1155, the only option now is Opera Mail. Has this feature been removed?

No, it's work in progress, related to the new support for HTML5 features registerProtocolHandler and registerContentHandler.
