Opera 11.61 Christmas Snapshot

If you feel that the wait for Christmas is too long, perhaps this can keep you busy for a while.

This is a snapshot of Opera 11.61, which is planned for release some time in January. There are a few crash fixes, and other things that have popped up since the release of 11.60.

Since this will most likely be the last Opera snapshot of the year, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the desktop team here at Opera!

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Note that this is not an Opera Next build. It will install over the latest stable version by default!Download

did DSK-351284 (New mails are date sorted behind old mails) also happened sometimes to new feeds?

PengePenge4 Friday, December 23, 2011 1:49:12 PM

So we won't get new 12.00 snapshot in this year? sad

Possibly. Though it's a bit more complex for feeds, some don't include proper publication dates with the articles.

Awesome surprise. I hope this fixes (fingers crossed) the constant freezes that seem like symptoms of the HWA work in the Opera 12 line that cause the browser to freeze for 7 secs.

If not, (in the words of Jeff Dunham) "I don't give a damn!" Installing away!!! Wohoooo!!!

MichałPlMichal Friday, December 23, 2011 2:25:31 PM

Merry Christmas!

MichałEmdek Friday, December 23, 2011 2:37:05 PM

I've already switched to 12.00 (last snapshot is finally stable and functional for me) but thanks anyway. :-)

But biggest present for me would be return (at least as an option) of favicons in address filed dropdown. ;-)

Hack My BrainHackMyBrain Friday, December 23, 2011 2:42:45 PM

Merry Christmas!
And I have a question.As for 11.60 final/11.61 build 1222 (Windows 32-bit, XP SP3/7 SP1),any altering among User JS won't take effect until Opera gets restarted.Is that a bug,or a new behavior on purpose?

Justasdrumblius Friday, December 23, 2011 2:45:03 PM

Merry Christmas to you guys.

Merry Christmas. Now if you are really releasing Opera 11.61, fix what you ignored or did not notice-

Start fixing them; who knows what more was ignored.

after so long, gmail is still not fixed? Can anyone confirm? I'm on win7 32bit.

gmail works fine in chrome, firefox and Internet explorer. Dont tell me they're gonna delete this comment again just coz they dont want others to see that other browsers work fine?

andrewzandrewz1986 Friday, December 23, 2011 3:21:52 PM

F11 for Fullscreen do not work properly on Win XP SP3. Title bar remains visible.

JaredpieRr0Ur Friday, December 23, 2011 3:41:51 PM

It feels nice that you said "Merry Christmas" and not "Happy Holidays".

Merry Christmas to those who are working there to give us snapshots, and have a Prosperous New Year, too! smile

Please note that Google supports these browsers and blocks Opera intentionally in many cases.

Merry Christmas dear diligent development team!

cvm Friday, December 23, 2011 4:43:22 PM

Can you tell me why is difference between WinXP and Win7 date format in mail client? WinXP use mix of arabic and roman numerals (14 days in list then date have standard format) and Win7 use arabic numerals.
XP: fri 23 XII
Win7: fri 23 12

Seems to work fine for most people, so you might want to be more specific. There's one known problem, the small font when composing a new message. That's caused by a fix in Opera, a quirky way of dealing with font size has been dropped, but Gmail still works around it, so this causes over-compensation now.

hmmm....can you see if gmail is sluggish in Opera compared to other browsers when u try to check/tick many messages? thanks.

Warning snapshot! Thanks!

Yiğit Ateşceleborn1 Friday, December 23, 2011 5:41:42 PM

If I choose "Pin to taskbar" option in Opera setup, pinned icon's name shows up as "Opera11.60 1185". It should be just "Opera".

Still not fixed.

varabi Friday, December 23, 2011 5:43:32 PM

A few annoying bugs:

1. There is a problem with justify text in OL lists - more info: http://varabi.ovh.org/ftp/opera/opera_bug1.html
2. Mail client - no pin messages counter makes pinning meaningless (read and pin messages) - read and in trash or draft has counters. Pinned hasn't.
3. Counters in sidebar are often shows wrong values.
I hope you eliminate these errors until 11.61.

Best Christmas wishes! smile

EricJH Friday, December 23, 2011 5:43:38 PM

Happy holidays to all of you at Opera.wizard sherlock

blaxima Friday, December 23, 2011 6:08:11 PM

Thank you
But it seems none of my issues have been fixed. Since the introduction of 11.5x:
Opera struggles with the resizing and scrolling of java appletes
F11/Full screen does not work
Scrolling is choppy and still has page smears
Site incompatibility is becoming a bit of an issue again
Tested these things in version 11.11 and they all work properly

and with the release of 11.6x Opera does not remember window size and position. Every time I close Opera and reopen it, it reverts to it's default size and position (when restored down)

win xp sp3

Happy Holidays and thanks for all your hard work cheers

ps this installed over my current stable version

Ineluki Friday, December 23, 2011 6:17:36 PM

The issue with the random unread messages count is still there (since the first 11.60 build).
With this build Opera shows the unread messages (that aren't there) in the "Unread" folder instead of the "Inbox", but the problem prevails.

Clean install didn't fix it.

Win7 64bit, IMAP.

We know about the Gmail slowness - Opera does too much work when updating layouts with position:fixed elements. We are working on it, but don't expect a fix in 11.61 as it's not a simple bugfix, rather a redesign of some code.

Details please. 11.60 is certainly more compatible than 11.10, there are literally hundreds of compatibility fixes between those two. But I'm sure some sites have regressed, thus we need specific pointers.

This is the reason for the scrolling performance at Facebook for example? Thanks for that info wink
