11.62 is nearing release

, ,

Another Thursday 11.62 build. A final 11.62 release is just around the corner, so testing is perhaps more important than ever!

Remember that the intention for 11.62 is to be a stability and performance improvement on 11.61. We believe we have achieved that, so our focus is now to make sure there are no regressions from 11.61. Therefore please do not discuss outstanding or previously reported issues here. Rather we ask that you focus you testing entirely on spotting any regressions we may have overlooked. knight

Thanks as always!

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

If I choose "Pin to taskbar" option in Opera setup, pinned icon's name shows up as "Opera11.62 1340". It should be just "Opera".

darixzen Thursday, March 22, 2012 1:52:55 PM

I reported DSK-357649 about a month ago, and I just retested with 11.62 1340. And the JS error is still shown. Downgrading to 11.61 and i dont get the javascript error anymore. could this be fixed before 11.62 goes final? It breaks using the monitoring webapp for me.

1. Yes. 2. I don't know sad

We are not taking any requests for fixes to 11.62 at this stage, only regressions.

Clarification Edit:

If you download the 11.61 final and install it in Standalone/USB Install mode (see the instructions in the download links above) you can do a direct comparison between 11.61 and 11.62. Then you can find out if it is a regression. If it is please report back. Otherwise, please save the comments for a non-11.62 snapshot.

P.S. This is not to say we don't appreciate your reports. We really do! wink But for this blog post we have to keep on topic to make sure no regressions get missed! knight

Not problem, I will report it on next Opera Next snapshot. IIRC it is not a regression from 11.61. You can delete these comments. Sorry for bothering you smile

Opera keeps crashing for me at speedtest.net. This has started in the last few builds even with a fresh install(Chrome works fine). I've had a few other crashes and sent in total about 4 or 5 crash logs. I tried 4 different versions of flash thinking that might be the problem with no luck. Upon restart all my speed dials had their images reset.

DSK-359325 is a regression because full screen mode was supposed to be fixed in 11.61. F11 works but choosing "Full Screen" from the right click menu does not.

Thanks we'll look into it and see if it is something we can fix for 11.62. No promises but we will try our best.

We cannot reproduce this. It works find for us on a similar machine (Win XP SP3). Please try with a clean profile.

It is for me. I've never had problems with that site before. I just did a clean install and it crashed.

The clean install did correct my full screen issue though, thanks

1. I can confirm this with an installation in a new folder.
2. I don't know if it is a regression

On a relate side note. I installed 1340 over its predecessor. I had instructed the installer to pin the icon. The installer did not renew the already pinned icon which identifies as Opera 12.62.1327.

I don't really know, if this is a regression from 11.61 or later builds, but I can't save attachments from mail if I click "Save as..." on them. If I click "Save to download folder", everything seems fine, but files are saved to default folder, which is not very comfortably

This problem occurs after you upgrade to version 7.0 Avast anti-virus.

P.S. Please don't compare with 12.00. 12.00 has many fixes that are not present in 11.62. This is known. 11.62 should be compared with 11.61 only. The download links above should how side-by-side installs can be performed on Windows, Mac and Linux/FreeBSD. This is the best way to compare 11.61 with 11.62.

hmm, interesting I'm still using version 6 but since you've mentioned Avast it could be the problem. thank you for pointing that out

EDIT. I disabled Avast and it was the culprit. Thanks again cheers It's strange that Chrome worked with it running though

No. Never had that problem. Just an update from 11.62. I do not remember which, sorry. 11.62-1332 clean install, but the problem is earlier. Sorry for not giving the exact figure.

Mapquest.com is still broken on Linux and Windows (32).

The mapquest site pops up as before then goes to a full page of an ad.

It's unusable.

This is on about a dozen machines, various distros and Windows revs.

Glad you found this. There were several pages on huffingtonpost.com that were doing this exact thing the other day, but they aren't doing it at present. Not surprising as all pages on huffpost change hugely every day. Mapquest is a site where it can be reliably reproduced, because it has persisted there for a couple of weeks (saw this same comment last week).

Unfortunately, it's not a regression (all builds since at least 11.60 do it) and thankfully, it is fixed in 12. However, if the 11.XX line is going to be the public build for any length of time it MUST BE FIXED in 11 as well.

It's NOT a reason not to release 11.62. However, no other browser does this. I'm sure, as I mentioned when I first brought this up a couple of builds ago, that the page must be written wrong. However, it is an error Opera must be able to overcome or sidestep if it is to compete with browsers that display bad pages "correctly."

Pardon my "off topic" comment, but I felt it couldn't go without saying. Any time you can't access a popular site with a browser AT ALL, it should be addressed.

ayespy Thursday, March 22, 2012 6:09:32 PM

Speaking of regressions, I mentioned one on the last build (NSL of the
"Completed request to *****" or "Waiting for reply from ****" variety) that I have discovered today probably ONLY can be seen if you are on a connection slower than 2 MBps or so.

Still using that build, I changed last night to, and continued today on, a 8-10 MBps connection, and the NSL problem magically vanished. This tells me connection speed is critical to the problem. So, devs, unless you can throttle back your connection speeds to below 2 Meg, you probably won't be able to reproduce the problem.

Joel Spadinspadija Thursday, March 22, 2012 6:11:00 PM

Here's a regression from 11.61:

Dragging tabs off the tab bar and back on was mostly fixed, but if you drag a tab out of one stack and into another expanded stack to the right of the original stack, tabs start disappearing and Opera starts crashing.

Reported as DSK-359823.

fmbb Thursday, March 22, 2012 6:46:34 PM

please fix interface bugs (first tab change width when url is entered, address bar lost focus on extensions buttons load)

AzraelAzrael1 Thursday, March 22, 2012 7:55:24 PM

The scrolling redraw errors are getting ridiculously bad, way worse than in 61. And don't let me start on the RSS/feeds tab - its redesign is worse in every way possible.

RooterRooter78 Thursday, March 22, 2012 8:07:17 PM

With build 1332 and the build before I had already more than once the problem that the active tab no longer looks like being active. In this screenshot the speed dial tab all on the right is active but it looks like inactive:

To the people with the "pin to taskbar" problem: Have you probably changed opera:config#UserPrefs|Title ? Maybe to "Opera %v %s"!?

senseysensor Thursday, March 22, 2012 8:29:40 PM

Thank you! Latest opera 11.62 snapshots became more and more stable for me... There are sometimes crashes - mostly if do a lot of development and dragongly, but rarely and I cannot reproduce them again.

It isn't fixed in my version of 12.00, build 1328. Mapquest doesn't work with ANY version of Opera that I have.

is there a possibility to set the address bar to show the bookmarks first after the search suggestions, and only after that the browsing history? it is really annoying if I have let's say 11 items, and the bookmark is only the last one
