Next address field adjustments

,

With this snapshot we have put a great deal of attention on searching via the address field.

Previously there were some complains that Opera fails on searching parts of URL. From now on it should be much easier to find your favorite pages simply by typing words in address field.

For example, lets say you have important friends on Facebook. Assume you have visited https://www.facebook.com/barackobama previously. You would expect to be able to find it by typing "barack" in the addressbar. Starting from this snapshot you will be able to see proper suggestions in the drop down for the address and title of secure pages.

Handling more than one word provided in the address bar was not handled really well previously, as it resulted in matching only page content. This meant that the URL and title was not taken into account when typing multiple words. This has now been improved upon as well, allowing you to better norrow down your searches.

Try visiting example http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/z77-express-virtu-mvp-benchmark,3174.html and than typing "virtu" or "virtu mvp" in addressbar, like so:

In addition, the ordering of items in the drop down has been improved to better promote nicely matching rows when multiple words have been provided.

Providing entries with patterns similar to "5.60 NOK in USD", "foo.bar baz" or "Info.plist" should now execute the default engine searching instead of trying to open the page, rather than resulting in the "Invalid URL" page being displayed. Though we realise that there is still a little bit more work to be done to improve this even further.

Finally the "Show more" button will not be visible now, if there is only one more row to be displayed wink

Note that if you don't like to see Google suggestions in front of other items in the dropdown, you might turn it off in the config (this is not a new thing).

Any chance of you reconsidering the default values for the address bar dropdown button and favicons? They're both useful enough that I don't really get why they're disabled and put in opera:config in the first place, and it's possible that people won't know they're even there unless someone tells them.

The dropdown button's handy with a mouse and takes up so little space already, and icons make it much easier to find what you're looking for at a glance. I don't agree with the idea that they're for "power users" only.

The edge of the window (when restored) is narrower than it should be (in windows 7) and not fully respects the "window border inset = 0"

1) I just got aware of a problem, which I have never seen addressed so far.
It does not only affect Opera Next, but 11.62 as well:
my bank changed the format of the monthly statement of account from .pdf into .fdf, which I didn't even know until today.
You can save and view this file normally, but if you try to open it with the Adobe Acrobat Plugin (no matter if x86 or x64-version) in Opera, the tab only shows a visual remainder of the download dialog and after a while, the plugin throws an error because of an invalid format.
I guess this should be reported to Adobe as well?
Nevertheless the "open"-button in the download dialog should be inactive as of now sherlock
Should I file a bug report for this issue?

2) The HTML5-audio-element is severely broken: First, it didn't play anything at all, then it did, but there was no indication (blue progress bar) on it. The controls don't work at all, neither (un)mute, adjusting volume, jumping back-/forwards nor play/pause have any effect. It even kept on playing while and after reloading the page!
Finally, it made Opera Next x64 freeze completely on Win8 CP x64:

not sure if it's caused by the mix of Flashplayer and Audio-tags or because there are muliple audio-tags on the page or if it is just a general problem

P.S.: There's still no loading / buffering indication on it as well

to big CPU and memory consumption... google+ show info that my browser is unsupported :/

dityanaoan Thursday, April 19, 2012 12:15:44 PM

Opera does not remember any page setting (zoom level, cached/no image, fit to width, author/user mode) when opening link on a page.

Windows 7 x64, Opera x64 build.

Hi, nice tweaks thank you,
searches like ".net" or "Thread.sleep()" does not work. I know Opera is not suitable for developers, but I suggest to use default search engine, if website is not founded, or add this possibility to setup.
Thnak you.
