New Opera 12 snapshot

Here's yet another Opera 12 snapshot with a number of fixes, including several common crashes. It contains Out Of Process Plugin fixes, Hardware Acceleration fixes and Skin fixes.

For Hardware Acceleration fans we have font bugs fixed and new Renderer preference which the user can set to 1 to prefer the DirectX back-end, or 0 to chose OpenGL. Make sure to turn on Hardware Acceleration in opera:config, to check this out (Hardware Acceleration is turned off by default in Opera 12, and the new preference has no effect).

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Recent Mac builds seem to not make my Opera installation running any quicker, despite having hardware acceleration. I'll be checking this build out tonight.

opera:gpu informed, that the OpenGL-backend is not supported on my machine because of severe drawing issues on Intel cards.
Then I enabled HWA on the DX-backend, which is supported and working pretty nicely and it showed "OpenGL Backend not supported Unknown error" below the DX-infos.
Having switched off HWA again, it keeps telling me "unknown error"

P.S: That new loading indication looks better without the border around it. Well done cheers
However, the whole bar around the address field looks clumsy. I had the impression, that it got bigger, when I switched on HWA and it stayed like this even after turning it off again...
Why don't you narrow that border a bit? It would fit so much better to the menu-button and the heights of the tabs:

64bit email fetch still crashes opera ..... unusable without an email that works ..... 32 bit ok

Malgalad Thursday, May 17, 2012 12:30:26 PM

And still wrong kerning on DX HWA...

earth01 Thursday, May 17, 2012 12:32:11 PM

Thanks for the renderer preference. HA works perfect with OpenGL, which is not the case of DirectX (and will probably never be).

Otherwise, there's still a few skin bugs :

- The progress bar is not well-aligned when it reaches xxx/xxx
- Set the tab bar to the bottom, and expand it to have thumbnails. -> The menu button jumps on hovering it.
- There's one pixel more at the top of the address bar than at the bottom. (new)

sluwreac Thursday, May 17, 2012 12:34:13 PM

Please confirm. WIN XP SP3

Summary: opera it is closed if to activate "menu bar" and to press button "Closed Tabs"

When following the steps described above:
1. open Opera
2. press "button O - Show Menu Bar"
3. press button "Closed Tabs"

What do you expect to happen?
Should open menu Closed Tabs

Hat actually happens?
opera it is closed

Progress bars on the bottom don't work with enabled HWA (OS X).

This is what Opera looks like when hovering over the login button here at my Opera. Happens on several sites here - just with enabled HWA.http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/125/bildschirmfoto20120517u.jpg -

I just upgraded to Opera beta 1417. Norton 360 said that gstreamer.dll contained the threat WS.Reputation.1 and removed the file. What does this affect?

exzentrik Thursday, May 17, 2012 12:48:35 PM

The fonts under DirectX-HWA are very fuzzy here. Here's an example (left DX, right OGL):

Only English US only is available.

You guys need to post a fix and/or a work around to that, as no one WORKING as we do with Opera mail is happy about that.

Bes regards

Plugins not recognised in Windows build sad

If I leave them enabled there's masses of sites that won't load; I have to have plugins disabled to make the browser usable - those same sites will then load but don't work as intended because they rely on plugins.

Bugs DSK-361706 and DSK-361989; they seem to be closely related and were fixed for Mac a few builds back.

Mostly on sites with Flash, Opera freezes and then I can't do anything. If I minimize/maximize it, everything turns black. I can't use Opera again until I restart my PC.

"Mostly on sites with Flash, Opera freezes and then I can't do anything. If I minimize/maximize it, everything turns black. I can't use Opera again until I restart my PC."

Yep, got some of that, not as drastic, but majorly on clicking a link, opening a book mark, or hitting a speed dial thumbnail the page sped around forever without loading (like Chrome actually).
If you stop the page reloading it can occasionally load itself very slowly or just come up with an error message

sifur Thursday, May 17, 2012 1:25:24 PM

Guess Intel GPUs still giving you guys trouble ... Enabled hardware acceleration and chose directx in renderer preference; opera:gpu says:

Hardware acceleration status
Hardware acceleration: Disabled

OpenGL

Actually the new build introduced new HWA a new bug on my Mac (OSX 10.7.4, HD 3000). After browsing for a couple of minutes, the tab and title bar pops in and out on site interaction and scrolling (DSK-363946). Additionally, the whole window flashes on reload.

earth01 Thursday, May 17, 2012 1:41:59 PM

Little notice (but not your fault wink ) :

On my computer, when I go to http://www.lefigaro.fr/ with the x64 flash plugin activated -> Everything crashes, the plugin container, the browser, the graphic pilot and the video card lol

HA with OpenGL Win x64, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530.

NoFanboyNofanboy Thursday, May 17, 2012 1:47:53 PM

Still crashes immediately on start-up when HWA (DirectX) is enabled.
Windows 7 with Intel GMA 3150 chipset.

Info panel shows "Unknown document" only if the panel placement is configured to free/undocked.

Hardware acceleration is not yet fully optimized. Highly optimized software backend is probably faster.

adioni Thursday, May 17, 2012 1:56:34 PM

I'm noticing an odd bug with this build on my mac. On websites that provided a pop out calendar interface, the year is defaulting to 2148 (i.e. amtrak.com , orbitz.com , etc. )

I verified that my system clock is set properly & the same calendar interfaces show the correct year in Firefox.

GeorgoSK Thursday, May 17, 2012 2:06:13 PM

This build certainly improves on some of the HWA font issues, but there's still a short way to go - example: http://www.le.cz/cms/43-cestujte-rychle.html#IQ

>>>
>> this page makes opera slow and unresponsive :

http://sheepcyclone.blogspot.fr/2012/05/collection-of-photos.html
reported as DSK-364013

these bugs still not fixed :

DSK-362047 :: RTL characters distinguish
DSK-362073 :: Star icon
DSK-360016 :: wrong title over webp images' properties (identified as *.jpg)
DSK-357460 :: default skin allignment problem

Win Vista @ Dell inspiron 1545
HWA off and default settings with all bugs

why dont you developers make attentions to the bugs introduced many times and some of them for years but can be fixed with one or two lines of coding and not difficult ? in this way users will be disappointed ;

alharawi Thursday, May 17, 2012 2:08:41 PM

With a french UI, the master password dialogue doesn't display any text (HWA on and off). Can anyone confirm ?

1. No problems with pressing "trash" button with menu bar enabled
2. Button arrows. As i can see, the bottom control is a standart combobox while the right ones are custom controls. So i don't consider it error.

On my ATI Radeon 9600/X1050 opera:gpu shows for OpenGL

Blocklist status for 2D: Blocked driver version: No support for legacy drivers older than Catalyst 10.2. Please upgrade the driver

But installed drivers are from catalyst 10.2.

I still have significant UI problems with Opera. Some of these have been around for quite a long time. A full description and screen capture, because reports here are hit and miss, is on my Opera blog.

Thanks for the release and testing now.

I got tripped by the same title as the previous blog post. So I initially did not realise that there was a new snapshot until I saw it posted in the Opera topic at the Comodo forums. whistle lol

If i close a background tab with x button, selected tab loses focus to that tab for a split second.
