And cue the inevitable barrage of "you must fix this before release" comments from annoyed users that wanted their pet bug fixed before final.

I think the release critera should be clearly defined.

1/ Is it better than the last stable mainstream release (11.64 in the case)?- YES

2/ Are there no major regressions?
-NO (Lack of popup notifications, I believe is the only showstopper)

I use Next with my "stable" mail database(*)... and that database is not in any default location but in d:/[my name]/mail.

It's literally a moment's work to change the directory of the mail in Opera and it's also literally a moment's work to move that directory wherever you want on the hard disk (no copying required - just move/re-name).

So it's actually very easy indeed to move the mail somewhere, do whatever (un)installing you need to do and then either change the mail location in Opera or just move the mail to the new default location.

(*) O12 updated the database so I can't actually use mail in O11 right now (unless I edit the settings file) but you get my point.

Not really your call, though. And I disagree. Also, quit trolling people who are actually testing the builds.

Using Windows 7:
Download any theme, maximize Opera window, now minimize maximize and close buttons are 3px off the top of the screen, please fix this.

Close button still broken (doesn't respond to mouse hover in corner pixel) on Windows 7 with non standard Theme: e.g. 'Particles':

https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/themes/details/particles/

I like the new icon, it stands out better in the taskbar!

It scrolls much more smoothly than 11:63 on www.theverge.com, but is still extremely lacking: now, it's just about usable. This is with a clean install.

ah-jong Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:00:06 AM

The last 2-3 builds I notice the following behavior - suddenly all new pages stop loading. Helps only Opera restart. It happens once-twice an hour. W7 32.

Am I the only one with 1465 x64, on W7, who still receives that ridiculously annoying crash at almost every Opera exiting, (especially after using sites with flash, but I can understand they are not so important...rolleyes) with plugin wrapper log failed, in cca. 20 windows? cry

These skin problems are also still here.

To be honest, I really like Opera, using it for years, but reading that THIS version will be soon an official edition, makes me sick.knockout

spectatorxSpectatorx Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:18:58 AM

Norbert, clean flash's cache and let know if it helped. To do this go to control panel, run flash's applet and find in there option to clean cache.

ClashCityRockerclashcityrocker Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:27:16 AM

@Norbert It's always a wise plan to do a clean install of opera, with a clean profile once it hits RC status, as you get all sorts of crud that "real" end users (that don't test snapshots) would never see.

OperaLink now does a pretty good job of backing up and restoring everything. If only it handed by RSS subscriptions, I wouldn't have to do anything but change my mail root....

Michał Borekmichalborek Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:38:50 AM

When you release Opera with these bugs (problems with loading images on Twitter and general problems with proxy configurations - mentioned many times but ignored as always) I guess I'll stop using Opera and switch to something more reliable.

krychu90 Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:50:45 AM

Hi,

Color scheme is not work after browser restart.

WinXP with theme installed.

Confirm?

Saskatchewan Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:54:10 AM

When you're on Speed Dial and then load any page (not necessary from Speed Dial; you can type it in the address bar), Opera redraws the bottom of the top toolbar and displays it for a while:
http://files.myopera.com/Saskatchewan/opera/bugs/opera1200rc5-toolbar-drawing.png

Also (it was reported a while ago), the white border is still there if you've got Border Padding set to 0 in Windows Advanced appearance settings and start Opera in non-maximized mode:
http://files.myopera.com/Saskatchewan/opera/bugs/opera1200b1351x64-white-frame.png

Yes please. This hinders functionality. I doubt it will be fixed at this point though.
Another problem with themes is that when you load sites from speed dial, it doesn't bring up the site immediately as it waits for it to load, instead it continues to show the speed dial page until the site starts rendering.
I won't be using themes for these reasons.

SteveKong Wednesday, June 13, 2012 9:55:22 AM

Is the following bug already fixed: PANGEA-282 Speed dials lost on sync via Opera Link? If not, this one might be a showstopper, since the ordinary user would suffer a surprise.

Guys, am I the only one having extreme pain on Facebook. Random characters missing - on all past 12 builds. Here's how it looks: http://i.piccy.info/i7/7993996bddd7eaba4a18feb08c1d2ede/1-5-8947/30133622/scr.jpg

And also, the memory usage is surprising. Had 1,5gb for Opera process and 1,4gb for Plugins yesterday with about 5 tabs open.

Version 12.00 RC
Build 1465
Platform Mac OS X
System 10.7.4

Well, would you really recommend your friends, colleges and family to upgrade their stable install to version 12 in its current state?

Personally, I wouldn't (and won't upgrade my main install for the time being)
(just sent another crash report 2 min. ago...)

Paulpauldurham Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:38:45 AM

Enable Hardware Acceleration & Enable WebGl were both disabled after installing Opera 12 RC5. I changed both to "1" (Auto), and restarted Opera. Both settings remained at "1", but the scrolling of pages has become choppy. I disabled Enable WebGL & restarted, but there was not change. I disabled Enable Hardware Acceleration and the problem went away. If the driver was a problem, surely Opera would not have enabled Hardware Acceleration?

Is this problem common? Why would it be choppy? My driver is Intel's driver for Mobile Intel 4 Series Chipset Family 8.15.10.2555.

spectatorxSpectatorx Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:41:11 AM

Old intel gpus are too weak to handle hardware acceleration with proper peformance.

You can try to update driver but i'm not sure this will change any thing.

Mark A.NightMayor Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:42:48 AM

Found a bug. Here are the steps:

1. Go to Opera>>Settings>>Delete Private Data

2. Make sure "Delete Plug-in Data" is checked.

3. Opera will now freeze up completely and you can't exit through normal means. (You have to go to the Task Manager, etc.)

I have tested it on Windows 7 32bit and just now on Windows Vista 32bit where this bug still happens on both systems.

HWA-Off
WebGL-Off
Plugins Enabled-Yes and No (I have tested it with all plugins enabled, then afterwards when all plugins were disabled. The bug still happened each time.)

Paulpauldurham Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:45:12 AM

I am using Opera 12 RC5 in Windows 7 Professional (x86). I don't understand how Opera is calculating CPU utilization in the opera:cpu page. I am using a dual-core CPU, and I am trying to correlate the CPU usage in the "5" column of Opera while simultaneously watching the Opera.exe & Opera_plugin_wrapper.exe combined CPU usage on a 2nd screen, using Sysinternals' Process Explorer. There is very correlation between the two, even taking into account that Process Explorer is displaying (a) instantaneous CPU usage and (b) showing usage as a % across all cores. If I double Process Explorer's displayed Opera processes' CPU usage (to account for it using the total CPU of a single core) I still get very little correlation with the CPU usage as displayed in opera:cpu. Sometimes Opera's value is far higher for extended periods of time.

So, can someone explain how the opera:cpu usage is calculated please?

Many thanks.

jeskynar Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:54:46 AM

Serious memory leak on last build (linux 64-bit). I left Opera open overnight and it used up all my RAM (8 GB) before the kernel killed it (I have no swap). [No HWA No WebGL]

SilasTheRockSays Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:55:36 AM

Player profiles on EA Sports website doesn't work properly, for example - http://www.easports.com/player-hub/PS3/FranklyDj

http://us.playstation.com/ doesn't work properly.

I'd go into specifics, but there are 1000s of problems, and I don't have proper technical terms for them, so the developers should check them out themselves.

Obese MauriceObeseMaurice Wednesday, June 13, 2012 10:56:15 AM

Is this the Final build? whistle

I don't have any major problems (with HWA OFF, of course).

I almost always get this message when I go to Help> Check for updates menu and there is a new version available.
http://imagebin.org/index.php?mode=image&id=216216
I was using version 12 RC3 when I got this screenshot

And sometimes there is a new version available and Opera says "You are already using the latest version"

Hadesfenorbee Wednesday, June 13, 2012 11:31:20 AM

@spectatorx and @ClashCityRocker
Thanks for answering, I did the last clean install by 1454, so I did it again, also flash cleaning, and registry cleaned with ccleaner, and tuneup as well. (I also cleared these things earlier, flash cache clean is integrated in Ccleaner)

Now I did not get the error messages 20 times cheers but after closing Opera I had cca. 8 lines in Task manager, still working plugin wrapper.exes. bigeyes

The skin problem, with default theme only installed is still here also. sad

By the way it is very strange that the password field for entering the gmail account is so slow absorbing the key strokes I type.

Yes, this is correct behaviour; for Opera 12 final release HWA will be disabled by default; and Opera do NOT recommend to change it to Auto or On at least until the current RCs are done.

You say even in the final release it will be disabled by default. That is fine, I just find it strange that when it is enabled it may actually cause performance degradation.

Originally posted by wardies:

You are correct. I mis-worded what I wanted to say. I meant that I enabled HWA with option "1" which is not forcing Opera to use HWA but rather letting Opera decide if it wants to enable it depending on the HWA blacklist. I assume that because I saw a negative change in scrolling performance that Opera indeed did choose to "enable" HWA based on the "1" that I set it to.

I see. I believe the logic for Auto is that HWA will be disabled only if there are known severe errors with the graphics hardware or driver versions installed.

The reduction in performance might depend on what site you're visiting -- other sites may even perform faster -- but you're right: currently HWA seems to be slower in general for many, which is probably one of the reasons it defaults to disabled for now.
