Bugfixes as we prepare for 12.01

Hi, my name is Adrian and I am one of the new interns in the new Oslo office. I'll be with you until the middle of September.

The focus of today's snapshot is stability, starting with some of the fixes that weren't quite ready in time for the 12.00 final release.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

I wonder what was so urgent about releasing O-12 that these fixes couldn't make it in? Might've saved Opera a lot of griping on the forums and this blog.

netwolf Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:05:51 AM

Good, looking forward to a bugfix-release of v12 so my friends who accidentally upgraded their installation don't have to suffer any longer (those who have trouble downgrading, e.g. due to M2 changes...) smile

RicardoRicardoB Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:06:53 AM

Nice.

It'd be nice to fix the regression of
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=668542&t=1296031790

And also to be able to drag/drop from address bar to any folder.

Isn't that pretty damn obvious?

You're NEVER going to fix all bugs in an application so at some point you have to decide to release. If they were to wait for all known bugs to be fixed it would never be released.

Now quit whining about it and quit hijacking the blog with useless comments that don't even deal with the actual snapshot.

Please check the DSK-365871 (Status bar moved with page when scrolling)
I hope it finally gets fixed in 12.01

When uploading images from your computer to the website Vkontakte (vk.com), download images in the window (the browser Opera) was not seen any pictures, but they were on the desktop, and could not see images in the folder Downloads. Reopening the download page images are not corrected the problem. In the screenshot, I have shown that the drawings are on the desktop, but in the opera box, they are not.
uaimage.com

Same with other sayiami to which you want to download images. In a new tab with another site history to repeat itself, can not see images ...

Opera 12.00 1467 x64 Win7 Ultimate x64

If you select Show all files on your desktop began to appear more and labels, but the pictures did not show up and it's not just on this site, but also on other sites.

DSK-365589 Opera button and window controls disappear when opening KDE dialog.
thanks!

Still having issues logging into Netgear routers admin pages with this.

Portable clean install.. no extension.. 64bit on Windows 7 64bit.

Takes forever and hangs constantly.

11.64 - instant, no problems.

Yogurth Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:53:51 AM

I noticed in this and previous Next build...though I can't vouch for how long the bug(feature has been present)...I can't drag and drop link from address bar anywhere on the computer(desktop, disk root, random folder...). I just shows that Ø icon instead of cursor.

Windows 7 x64.

"quite ready", are fine words for what has happened !!!

Looks like the web site doesn't define all the file types it accepts correctly, so only some image formats are shown. You can change the file format drop down to show all files.

ClashCityRockerclashcityrocker Wednesday, June 20, 2012 12:01:58 PM

@Zotlan

Because they have to draw the line in the sand somewhere. If they had waited for this, it simply would have been other things people would be griping about. Nothing would ever get released in your world...

Opera 12 is a fine release, it's not perfect (no software ever is), but it's substantially better than 11.64, and that's what is important.

12.01 will wrap up the biggest issues, 12.02 the not so urgent ones, just like what has happened in the 11.6x branch.

Because it is not a final version.

Because it's on test period. You'll be able to overwrite your regular Opera when the final version for 12.01 were released.

Installation folder can be changed, you know? Overwrite it.

As a friendly reminder, mouse gestures still cannot be initiated at a tab, only inside a page or dialog. Trying to initiate a mouse gesture at a tab causes the tab to be moved by the right mouse button. This wasn't the case in Opera 11.6x.

This must be OS related, mouse gestures on tabs work in Linux (as they did in O-12)

What about "regular" Opera 12.01 release?

Anishahpatel Wednesday, June 20, 2012 1:08:00 PM

When I try to download certain filetypes (.apk, for example) from certain links, I get a "Missing plug-in Click for info" message instead of the expected download location popup.

Example: http://mobile.insynchq.com/Insync-1.0.8.apk

Charlie ClarkMuzzlehatch Wednesday, June 20, 2012 1:12:28 PM

Anyone else experiencing odd problems with keybindings in Mac OS? I've had CMD + F and CMD + V occasionally give me fullscreen with 12.00!

Does this build fix the memory leak when Opera 12 eats whole RAM in a few seconds even with only one tab opened?

Because bug fixes may cause regressions in other parts of the program.

nope, it's still quite piggish and for me, unusable. I'm still getting a BSOD within 20 sec of fooling around with new themes.

not a clean install though as I don't think having to do one for every new release makes much sense if it means loosing all of my bookmarks, settings and mail.

no crash log is being made either. I could submint my install to someone on the team since its a usb one if that would help

In the bookmarks tree of my side panel, I don't see the "+" por deploying and collapsing nodes.

Edited: now I see the "+" left

Charles SchlossChas4 Wednesday, June 20, 2012 1:41:04 PM

Will test to see if the progress bar does not leak from the GUI and show up in the middle of the page while scrolling since I saw it in 12.00

I have seen it when progress bar set to the bottom and one other has reported it from it being set at the top

Hopefully the video Flash issues will be resolved. I have found there it is always a crap shoot whether those applications will play.

fmbb Wednesday, June 20, 2012 2:04:43 PM

By not working you mean showing pdf's inline in opera? We are working on this bug atm

nonreturntozero Wednesday, June 20, 2012 2:17:14 PM

@ Chris

Please.

There are other browser makers, actually all of them, who are perfectly capable of releasing major versions which are stable enough for production use. Opera isn't, and they still sit there wondering why they don't gain any market share while everybody copies features they introduced years ago.

Talking down to people pointing out systemic problems with quality control and the release schedule is not helpful, IMHO.

JarradAkdor1154 Wednesday, June 20, 2012 2:18:47 PM

Sometimes my whole computer will freeze up for maybe five seconds (incl. mouse cursor); this has only occured since maybe one or two snapshopts before RCs, and I've only seen it when actively using Opera and when at least one tab (not always foreground) has a flash applet activated. With that said, this condition would actually be a large portion of the time my computer is on. Event log yields nothing of interest, no hardware failures either. Any idea on how I can give more useful information than this?

Windows 7+Opera x64
nVidia GTX 260, latest non-beta drivers (301.42; latest beta drivers have nothing stability-related in the changelogs)
HW accel ON, set to OpenGL. I'm about to set it to off and see if that makes a difference.

I have a user profile is also in C:\Users The fastest way is a bug in Opera, as the interface language Win7 I have Ukrainian and why Opera does not display the correct path to the folder the user. While the other version of Opera 12 sec normal.

Hi Adrian & congratulations.
Videos on BBC and other websites very slow to load after initially freezing.
If Opera are taking on interns then that bodes well after some comments about hiring freezes in the Facebook rumour teacup a short while back, and 12 is really quite exceptional, with this snapshot very welcome.
Chrome developers should use Opera to see where they're going wrong.
Many thanks to developers

Sérgio Marquessmarquespt Wednesday, June 20, 2012 2:49:16 PM

My Opera 12 does not open pdf files in browser. Not mentioned in bug fixes but this is definitely a regression cause this didn't happen in 11.64. The problem is with Adobe plugin. I´ve already filed a bug report but didn´t get any answer.
