More 12.02

It seems that the previous build with in-process plugins on 32-bit Windows was working pretty well, so here's another snapshot with a few more fixes. There are mostly crash fixes (I have not listed them all separately), and a couple of other fixes that we want to include in 12.02 as well.

Let us know how this build works.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

like previous releases
Opera 12 32 bit does't work fine like Opera 12 64 bit
dsk-365031 still present! only in 32 bit, 64 bit works great.

problem with webmail...opera don't load page after log in at webmail (virgilio.it for example) if opera is identified like opera, if i change identity (of opera) login is completed successfully: this ONLY with opera 12 32 bit (and opera 11.6x release)

No problem with opera x64 bit version or previous 11.51 32 bit (for example), log in is completed successfully and webmail page is loaded without problems even if opera is identified like opera

Twitch.tv streams still won't load.

For example just go to http://en.twitch.tv/ and play the stream on the frontpage.

You are right, I tried with a fresh installation now (USB).

I'm still curious why it doesn't work when upgrading my current install. I have Content blocking disabled, javascript enabled, flash plugin enabled and so on. What other settings could possibly interfere? I really don't want to reset my settings..

It's really hard to tell. You could try taking a backup and then experimenting a bit with various settings.

Do you have any extensions installed? User JavaScript? Custom settings for the site (such as masking as another browser)?

when is the next version Opera next?

Karsten Mehrhoff - Opera-Info.deKawime Friday, August 17, 2012 12:57:53 PM

I reported a bug for the last 12.50-1546
DSK-371860 Some sound notifications for browser events are broken

Same regression in this build

No sound events for clicking and loading a page in this build. It works in 12.02-1552.

sluwreac, please do not simply copy and paste bug reports here. If you want to mention a bug report, a brief summary is better.

No site specific settings or extensions/userjs. Anyway, I did a backup of ALL my settings, installed 12.02 and replaced the settings with my old, everything is exactly the same as far as I can tell, and it works fine now.

I found the problem. It's because of Hardware acceleration. Too bad I'm so used to it being enabled.. Opera feels sluggish even when just opening a new tab without it.

About flash performance, build 1552 is a bit more constant with CPU usage and I/O. The build 1555 is a bit better with memory management.

decided to finally upgrade my 11.64 into this build (since OOP is out) and... i realized how bad scrolling is in 12.02... any fixes for that? tips or future builds?(plugins on demand are always enabled).
whole update procedure went with no problem, no data is lost, all settings here... but this scrolling.. how can it not be considered as regression? it's really bad! almost like on one of other browsers out there... please opera team, fix this and give us back smooth scrolling we are used to.

What's wrong with scrolling??

Olli!

What is wrong?

kanstisama Friday, August 17, 2012 3:38:34 PM

Thx for fixing Print Selection. Now it works.

On the other hand I don't know if you noticed my other commentary:

There is a graphical issue with open tabs. I'm using tabs on the left side of the Opera window. When there is enough of them there comes a moment when Opera tries to condense them more to something like a bars. In this very moment when you move cursor over tabs they go haywire. They blink, tabs are expanding and condensing over and over again. This way you can't properly choose a tab! When there is even one more or one less tab it doesn't happen. Please fix it as it's really getting on my nerves. Would be nice if someone would confirm it.

The issue with Twitch was because of Hardware Acceleration being enabled.

haightashbury67 Friday, August 17, 2012 4:16:26 PM

I have found these issues in opera-12.02-1555.i386.linux.tar.xz ...

- Plugin
Toggling between "Small player", "Large player" and "Full screen" while playing a YouTube video, produces flickering and still occasionally causes the plugin (flash-11.2.202.238) to crash. The same happens when scrolling the page while the video is running. But unlike previous versions of Opera, the browser remains stable and doesn't freeze or crash.

- User Interface
When "Show Menu Bar" is disabled, the menu bar disappears as it should. But disabling "Show close button on each tab" brings back the menu bar in a crippled form, which it shouldn't ...

This is how it looked in 11.64.1403:
http://www.filedump.net/dumped/opera116414031342838303.png

And this is how rotten it looks since 12 came out:
http://www.filedump.net/dumped/opera120215551345212688.png

All browsers that I know have trouble keeping up with the latest developments on the web and dealing with the gazillion of non-standard-compliant pages. This is why I would never be pushy about such issues. If I come across such an issue, I report it here in the forum and hope that it will be addressed in a future release of Opera. But for me the main reasons to use Opera are the good looks and the flexibility of its user interface. This is why I find regressions in the UI completely unacceptable, especially when they persist over a number of releases. I have reported the "menu bar" issue on numerous occasions and find it frustrating that nobody can be arsed to do something about it. Because of this, I'm still stuck with version 11.64.1403 and I am beginning to wonder if, after more than a decade of Opera, this is going to be my last ...

facebook is one of these, that scrolling is literally "horrible". all more advanced pages (simple pages too, but not that much, enough though to be a distraction) are tearing and sometimes pages are teared vertically because of random picture that is somewhere on the top of the site. All this happens when scrolling with mouse wheel (i even tried using different mouse), its not appearing when using side bars. Another site that these effects are visible is for example dobreprogramy.pl - no vertical tearing there, only horizontal and irregular jumping when going down with mouse wheel. that is what can be called bad scrolling performance, right?

The missing images bug appears to have been fixed with this build - they're all here from the start. Whatever you have done has worked.
On the other hand the HWA (on OpenGL, as i use XP) is only marginally better: while the present build can run FullHD flash videos, it does while making the CPU run constantly at 100% on an Athlon 4000+ dual core; in the mean time the overall rendering speed is markedly slower than the one from the last build and way below what appears when HWA is disabled.

Joel Spadinspadija Friday, August 17, 2012 5:59:05 PM

I don't use HA at all, and IMO scroll performance on The Verge is ok. Maybe it's not as fluid as Chrome or IE , but it's really close.
