Approaching Opera 12.02 Final

We are approaching the final release of Opera 12.02. It is not quite ready for Release Candidate status yet, but we've fixed a few bugs.

Of particular importance is CORE-48069, which fixes an issue where secure pages would be shown as not being secure. Let us know if secure sites seem to work correctly now, or if you are able to spot any new problems.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

I see some random NSL on my win 7 x64 too, but on win 7 Opera 12.01 is not unusable for me.

Will memory leaks be fixed in 12.02?
Sorry, I can't be concrete due to not knowing steps to reproduce, but I noted today that Opera eaten almost 2 GB of memory and did a lot of I/O slowing down the whole system. After closing it continued to do somethings with 20-30 CPU and slow reducing of memory usage for about 10 minutes.
For me Opera usually uses so many resources for mail (I have tens of thousands letters), but again I can't tell what it was.

You already have been told that it has been fixed internally, so please stop posting it

it is broken in all builds of 12.50 and 12.02, respectively, and previously

too long no build that it worked as it should
and in this new build, it is also broken - so the appearance of another of my post about this issue - it is logical

tell me how many builds have to wait to get your "fixed internally" is reflected in the actual build? - I'll wait
and probably not going to post about this problem in the next build, where it will be broken, as you ask

netwolf Tuesday, August 21, 2012 6:18:27 PM

For me the best news of this blog post is

It is not quite ready for Release Candidate...

So apparently a lesson has been learned from the issues that accompanied the release of version 12, which many called and still call premature.
Please keep it this way, and keep the rush out of the releases up

mfbd Tuesday, August 21, 2012 6:47:15 PM

fine. no problems so far with this build.
HWA off, webgl on
kde 4.9 opensuse 12.1 (64).

Then what is purpose of taking comments on desktopteam blog?

We can't know is it fixed in internally. So when will you make public bug tracker?

I hope you are just kidding smile) If they stop inform us.. we will stop inform they.. And open bugtracker is big step towards.. they will have another motivation to fixing.. and we will be informed and dont be talking about something again and again..

CORE-48069 Opera isn't connecting correctly to secure pages

When i visit the website mail.opera.com the adress field does not show me "Secure" after loading the page. There is just "Web" to see there. This is the only site with this problem. I have tried it with a clean usb install too.

Confirmed on WinXP 32bit.

UPDATE: Opera freezes when i normal use it in browsing mode. Today i browse to Xing for a premium account, but while the site is loading, the browser stopped its working. The only solution is to stop the browser by task manager and start it again. Another problem appears when the browser starts and when it is initializing its databse. Then it loads sometimes only all the databases till my birthday this year on 07/07/2012. That was approximately the date when i switched from Opera 11.6x to 12.x !

Anybody else getting random links that don't work? What happens is this: I click on a link or a post (mostly in various forums) and the page doesn't load. Doesn't even go off of the page I'm on. If I hit the "X" (to stop loading) and click again, it will work the second time. Happens with both 32 and 64 bit versions. Thanks.

Win 7 64

These regressions are still present

DSK-372443

DSK-372444

DSK-372445

Is opera team ever gonna take these bugs into consideration?? or am I wasting my time..???

Hadesfenorbee Wednesday, August 22, 2012 7:34:25 AM

I like that way: make the basic browser awesome, and than add the brand new features, like OoP Plugins, HWA, aaand the awaited SPDY. Just go on like that!cheers

Some minor bugs of these: random favicons in bookmark bar, randomly disappear in earlier opened random tabs. (yet unable to reproduce which and when or why)

Plugin Process still gives 1 Error Message after closing opera, with crash log failed or successfully created. (x64 version, I still have that)

This version is on the way to get back in Opera's history of best browsers, can't wait the new updates and also 12.50. yes

Win7, x64 version installed.

Marcodsp418 Wednesday, August 22, 2012 7:44:58 AM

Will you ever fix the overlay css issue?
Just try with Wordpress or click on SIGN up here: http://diasporaproject.org/

Nothing appears.
Please, fix this annoying issue, I've been asking for that since ver. 10 now.

it's partly fixed in Marlin (12.50), so i don't think they will spend any more time on that now... pity, i know, because it's very noticeable and i lowers overall user experience, but that's how it is here (from what i noticed). Priorities...

CORE-48069 Opera isn't connecting correctly to secure pages

Seems to STILL give me some problems but eventually do log on. 1552 I ABSOLUTELY could Not log on to a VERY important secure website I pay for to control very expensive machinery.

12.01 didn't have that problem.

Scottn1 Wednesday, August 22, 2012 9:38:22 AM

I'm experience a HUGE reduction in NSL's in using the x64 version of this release (on Win7 x64) compared to same version but x32. Yes, I tried both. With the x32 I had NSL happen within 5 minutes of browsing and several more in next hour. With the x64 I am not an hour into my browsing and I have had NONE! Only one false alarm that did eventually load fully.

I've always just used the x32 version on my x64 Windows box thinking there is no speed benefit to using a x64 browser (some javascript benchmarks have shown maybe even a slight performance loss for x64).

Also, is there any chance you could default Google searches in the bar to encrypted Google like Firefox recently has done? It only requires me a quick change to do it myself, but I think it would be a good default for all.

Note to Desktop Team - perhaps it would be a good idea to clearly put this link near the download links and warning message at the top of these pages...

It's actually a bit of a pain to navigate there if you don't remember the address or have it bookmarked! (I speak from experience...)

Some significant bugs remain in Opera 12 — not all are new:

  2. DSK-352518 — Incorrect Indentation on Lists Test page
  3. DSK-357744 — Removing Words from Dictionary Removes other Variants, e.g. Removing "realize" flags "real" as an error; removing "organize" flags "organ" (and "or"!) as an error.
  4. DSK-367776 — Minimum Tab Width No Longer Respected (Regression in Opera 12.0x)
  5. DSK-372504 — WAV Files Don't Play Test Page (Regression in Opera 12.0x)

Still no fix for this:
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There is a graphical issue with open tabs. I'm using tabs on the left side of the Opera window. When there is enough of them there comes a moment when Opera tries to condense it more to something like a bar. In this very moment when you move cursor over tabs they go haywire. They blink, tabs are expanding and condensing over and over again. This way you can't properly choose a tab! When there is even one more or one less tab it doesn't happen. Please fix this as it's getting on my nerves. Would be nice if someone would confirm it.

Same here on Win7x64.

With 11.64 (my main browser) I hardly ever have NSL, while with this build the first one appeared after only 2 or 3 minutes of usage and with only 3 open tabs(compared to 15 - 50 with 11.64).

Spoke a little too soon. While still a tad better than in the past, I am back to getting random NSL's (even with x64 version now where fresh install seemed to have none).

Worst part is that NSL's appear randomly and are not 100% reproducible. I can have one, clear cache/restart and then same page loads without it.

I can get one at this page but not consistently: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/new_customer/base_packages.jsp?footernavtype=-1

UGH

Getting nasty NSL at PaidContent.

Also, noticed the "share" controls in the articles are showing the Tweet/Email dropdown always. They should be closed unless you hover over the button.

On installs of the last few builds with 12.0x and Marlin, when dragging the new version and doing a replace, I'm getting "Opera.ics file in use." Is that the icon file??

Unconfirmed. Loaded fully here. Both times clearing cache. This must be why NSL's still plague Opera, they are a random bugger that doesn't like to cooperate to confirm.
