Certificates updated

, ,

In the previous snapshot we introduced EV and automatic updates of certificates. Last Friday, we updated the certificate repository, so if you've been running one of the two latest snapshots during the weekend, the new certificates should already have been installed.

Are the root certificates updated the same way as browser.js, i.e. when Opera checks for the latest version?

lamarca 20. April 2008, 15:57

thanks!

tlogic 20. April 2008, 15:59

thanks!

Jere: When finished, the list of available certificates and the EV list will be retrieved at the same time as the other automatic updates. At present the list is retrieve on startup. Actual retrieval of certificates will happen when needed, or when the repository instructs Opera to download.

By the way, can you include to Opera's certificate repository a Kaspersky SSL certificate, using in new Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, providing a scan of SSL-connections.

From Kaspersky's Help topic:

Connecting using SSL protocol protects data exchange through the Internet. SSL protocol can identify the parties exchanging data using electronic certificates, encode the data being transferred, and ensure their integrity during the transfer.

These features of the protocol are used by hackers to spread malicious programs, since most antivirus programs do not scan SSL traffic.

The application implements the verification of secure connections using a Kaspersky Lab's certificate. This certificate will always be used to check whether the connection is secure.

Later traffic scan by SSL protocol will be performed using installed Kaspersky Lab's certificate. In case of detection of an invalid certificate when you connect to the server (for example, if the certificate is replaced by an intruder) a notification will be displayed with a suggestions to accept or to reject the certificate or to view the certificate information. If the application works in the automatic mode, the connection using an invalid certificate will be severed without a request.

If you want to contact, please let me know or even write to any member of KL Dev Team ( forum.kaspersky.com ).

It is nice to be up-to- date.

THANKS!

Kaspersky's method may destroy identity information, and will certainly destroy all EV information. Meaning: Use Kaspersky to filter your SSL content, and you won't get the green bar.

Roots that are to be embedded in Opera (or included in the new repository) must fulfill strict requirements, one of the most important of which is to have passed a recent WebTrust or equvalent audit.

Hmmm. Maybe that caused crash in my Opera? Under 64 bit Vista, I started the Opera many times, and sometimes, it's just crashed in about 10 seconds from startup.

FrakkiaLP 21. April 2008, 12:09

I have the same problem of cousin333 (from last 2 builds, exactly when you implemented this EV certifications). (Vista 32bit)

How can I disable these update? So, I can test if the problem is due from these updates?

Doliprane 21. April 2008, 15:36

I personnaly don't care about these issues, though they are very important for you :D

Hello I'm running the latest beta, and noticed when I have the bookmarks manager open and am working with bookmarks (moving, deleting) and switch between that tab and others, Opera quickly becomes confused. I can then no longer close any tabs, I can navigate to new pages but the tab titles/icons refuse to change. The only way to get out of this is to restart the browser. I think this issue has been present in the last two builds.
Thanks

FrakkiaLP 21. April 2008, 17:36

thanks lamarca, but it doesn't work.

I only ask to Opera staff to tell me a way to disable the automatic upgrade, so I can verify if the crash is releted with this.

RX-3200 21. April 2008, 19:14

why I can't open http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?siteid=17&PostID=3214173 in Opera 9937 ???

It crashes for me too. I tried deleting (renaming) the profile, installing 9903, nothing worked. Finaly i've uninstalled Opera and deleted all its files including profile. Than I've installed 9903 again and loaded my old profile, only this worked for me.

cousin333 22. April 2008, 16:26

RX-3200: Works for me just like in Safari...
