9.26 - coming soon!

, , , ...

Stability fixes are coming your way! We are looking into releasing an update to Merlin: 9.26. It will address several stability issues, mainly on Mac where we have received several reports that we have been having trouble to reproduce. So, feedback from you is welcome! Furthermore, we are fixing a stability issue with TLS and the upcoming Windows 2008 Server (IIS 7).

We are also addressing a few security issues; details will be published in due time.

Mozilla notified us of one security issue ( :smile: ) the day before they published their public advisory ( :worried: ). They did not wait for us to come back with an ETA for a fix: they kept their bug reports containing the details of the exploits closed to the public for a few days, and now opened most of them to everybody ( awww ).

Opera is as always committed to not only protecting its users, but to making the Web a safe place. We believe in responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities affecting several vendors.

Opera 9.22 released

, , , ...

Hey
We released 9.22 today and it's a recommended security update.
Changelogs:

* Windows: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/922/
* Mac: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/mac/922/
* Linux/UNIX: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/linux/922/

Bit Torrent also received some nice improvements, so it should be quite a bit faster now.

Thank you all for participating in the weekly testing..
Looking forward to serving you some fresh Kestrel builds soon.

Opera code names uncovered

, , ,

We've had some requests lately about where Opera 9.x is heading, so I'll give you a sneak peak into the current projects and their internal code names. We usually prefer code names over version numbers until the product actually ships.

Merlin

Merlin is the current code base, used for 9.0, 9.1 and the coming 9.2. On Merlin the main focus is on stability and only select new features are added. As you can see, the version number of the last preview build was 9.2, which normally indicates new functionality. The new feature is close to completion and will be unveiled here later this month. You have not seen it in a desktop browser before...

- Merlin falcons often hunt by flying fast and low, typically less than 1 meter above the ground, taking prey by surprise. Rolls-Royce used the same code-name for the engine that powered the legendary Spitfire.

Peregrine

The most important planned update to Opera on desktop. Peregrine will contain significant improvements in the user interface, improved standards support, improved performance, thousands of bug fixes and groundbreaking new functionality. In other words: We're pretty excited about it.

Previews of Peregrine will be found on this blog in 2007.

- The Peregrine Falcon is the fastest creature on the planet in its hunting dive, the stoop, in which it soars to a great height, then dives steeply at speeds in excess of 300 km/h. Suzuki named the fastest production motorcycle in the world after the Japanese word for Peregrine, Hayabusa.

Kestrel

Kestrel is the latest addition to our roadmap and fills the gap between Merlin and Peregrine. It will be the first release with rendering improvements from Peregrine. For the first time we will coordinate the desktop release with other Opera products, working towards a more unified Opera experience across devices. If you haven't done so yet, it's time to try out Opera Mini on your mobile phone.

- The Kestrel falcon is able to see ultraviolet, which helps them spot prey while hovering 10-20 meters over the ground. The Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine was later replaced by the Peregrine...

The saga continues... 9.01

, ,

It's been a short month since we released 9.0 and we think it's soon time to let the rest of our users take part in the polishing we've worked on since then.

This isn't a release candidate, but it's not too far away either, so make sure your voice is heard :sing:, especially if you find a regression since 9.0.

Happy bug hunting!

yet another daily!

, , , ...

Well, it's Friday again (for real, this time), so you shouldn't be too surprised to see a new build :smile:

And the changelog is getting shorter:
  • CNN video does not crash.
  • Favicons in widgets work again (on Windows and Mac only, for now).
  • Fixed display on opera: pages.

And this time we have an extra bonus for you: we would like some more feedback on various UNIX platforms, and therefore all UNIX packages are available! (Yeahy!) And in this context it might be worth reminding that installation on SunOS is fixed.

Happy testing, and enjoy!

Monday: A new week begins..

, ,

Last build had a few very annoying issues, so we decided to give you an early update. Searches now work again and the error console shouldn't pop up every 20 seconds or so :wink:

Might have to clean out opera:config#UserPrefs|ConsoleFilter on dirty installs to make the error dialog stop appearing.

Known issues
  • Old RSS Icon.
  • We're sure you'll find some more. :wink:
  • Forms inside tables might corrupt table width

Changelog
  • Searches are fixed.
  • No crash when rightclicking in personalbar.
  • Error console not always appearing.
  • Lots of stability fixes.

Regarding the old RSS icon: Mozilla would like us (and other users of it) to sign an agreement on the use of the feeds icon. We fully respect their rights to the icon and will not use it as long as this isn't sorted out.

Have fun - and Happy testing!
