Key fixes and a focus on stability

, , , ...

Time for another snapshot and also time for another team member to announce it!

Since I'm involved in UNIX/Linux testing it seems appropriate that I should be the one to announce a snapshot with some nice UNIX fixes. Firstly it seems we got around the Qt 4.5.3+ 100% CPU issue. Also a fix for freezes during DST-to-normal time switch. Finally, we noticed that a few of you were having problems getting Opera to pickup your default Qt style. If you are one of those users try running Opera with the new '-systemstyle' argument.

Of course it is not just Linux specific fixes. There are several Windows stability improvements, crash fixes, Unite fixes, tweaks to improve old features (e.g. check out the list of search engines in doubleclick menu.) ... But I won't list them all here, scroll down to the change log for the full details.

Oh, and before I go remember the Unite Apps competition!

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Opera 10.01

, , ,

We published today Opera 10.01, a recommended stability and security update. Thanks to the new automated crashlogging in Opera 10, we collected a lot of the issues that users were seeing, and had a good tool not only to identify some crashers difficult to reproduce in controlled environments, but also to prioritise issues that were affecting a lot of users. A great Thank You to everybody submitting their logs!

Stability is this week's word

, ,

Lots of work has gone into stability this last week. Other highlights are new package names (see details here), and fully localized UNIX packages.

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known issues
  • Some dialogs do not have initial focus
  • [Bug 327180] Dragonfly does not work when JavaScript is disabled
  • [Bug 324377] Save Linked Content As fails sporadically

Changelog
  • Address field buttons are now updated correctly in all circumstances
  • Fixed international installer on Windows
  • Fixed several Wand issues

Lots of stability fixes:
  • crash on digg.com
  • crash with master password
  • crash on google maps
  • crash on a rather common javascript function...
  • crash when printing
  • crash when reloading a page...

Mail
  • Fix for Apple Mail import.
  • Filters and folders are now distinguishable
  • Attachments in multipart/related body part are now recognized properly
  • Reverted special handling of Delete in filter views - 'Del' always moves to Trash bin, 'Shift+Del' now deletes completely without using the Trash bin.

Several fixes to the undo functionality, such as e.g.:
  • undo after marking all as read should work now.
  • undo now reverts marking as spam
  • undo removing from filter

Windows specific:

9.26 - coming soon!

, , , ...

Stability fixes are coming your way! We are looking into releasing an update to Merlin: 9.26. It will address several stability issues, mainly on Mac where we have received several reports that we have been having trouble to reproduce. So, feedback from you is welcome! Furthermore, we are fixing a stability issue with TLS and the upcoming Windows 2008 Server (IIS 7).

We are also addressing a few security issues; details will be published in due time.

Mozilla notified us of one security issue ( ) the day before they published their public advisory ( :worried: ). They did not wait for us to come back with an ETA for a fix: they kept their bug reports containing the details of the exploits closed to the public for a few days, and now opened most of them to everybody ( awww ).

Opera is as always committed to not only protecting its users, but to making the Web a safe place. We believe in responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities affecting several vendors.
