Java is back

We're still working hard on getting a beta version of Opera 10.50 ready for Windows. Here is the latest snapshot with some nice bug fixes. This includes the return of Java.

Opera is now using the Java Plug-in instead of native Java.

If you encounter reproducible crashers, please report a bug:
https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/

Please remember to enter as much information as possible about the crash in the crashlog dialog if you encounter a crash.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Opera still has problems with text in elements with some transform style when zoom is not 100% (Win XP SP3)

Mouse gestures are still horribly broken.

Please try to be specific when describing problems, otherwise you will not be able to get your point across.

"Go to page" is working?

erupt Monday, February 8, 2010 2:26:20 PM

Interesting - Java is working fine, but where did the 'Enable Java' flag go? http://files.myopera.com/erupt/files/Pb.png

The 3D character preview isn't working.
Click on Personnage en 3D, the Java plugin loads then I get a white background instead of the game's character.

Java is now just a regular plugin, which means that the separate setting doesn't work anymore, and therefore needed to be removed.

blackzorrow Monday, February 8, 2010 2:28:41 PM

right click and insert a note is still impossible

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Monday, February 8, 2010 2:37:56 PM

If someone could pass the message to the core team, I (and maybe others) would be interested to know why it was implemented natively in the first place.

Does java using NPAPI mean the implementation is now less buggy, more complete, etc?

netwolf Monday, February 8, 2010 2:40:02 PM

Great, thank you for implementing support for the Java-plugin!

- First item in address bar drop down is still default search engine. Is this a temporal/known bug or intentional?
- "Loading..." still at the bottom of opera:config
- when clicking collapsed Feeds menu item in mail panel, 'contextual buttons' for Feeds (Update, Delete...) don't appear, but you see mail context (Compose...) instead.
You have to either expand Feeds menu or focus an actual feed.

Also right-click context menu is the one for Mails, not for Feeds (Check mail instead of Update etc.).
- memory usage is still way higher than with 10.10, and there also memory-leaks! Gonna post sites/steps that trigger it later from home.
- when you enter a single word in address bar, Google is fired up.
This defeats the purpose of Server Name Completion.
- graphical glitch in opera:config: type e.g. "host" and you'll notice that the fist category it is in (in this case Dev. tools) is crossed by a thin, dotted line.

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Monday, February 8, 2010 2:40:07 PM

This Web site dose not crash opera the problem is the display.
http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/

It should show a full screen.

Full screen is displayed if refresh screen is pressed.

Opera did crash when scrolling this page but recovered OK.

So no more enabling/disabling of only Java per site? Pity.

Right clicking on task bar Icon Windows 7 and selecting an option from the list displayed dose not work, opera dose not open the selected item.

João EirasxErath Monday, February 8, 2010 2:54:30 PM

Java plugin, and no native java means that Live connect is gone... sad

origPumu Monday, February 8, 2010 3:02:17 PM

GREAT!

Avola Monday, February 8, 2010 3:02:43 PM

Tray icon does not go away until moused over after closing Opera. And closing Opera completely takes kind of a long time.

OlliOlli91 Monday, February 8, 2010 3:03:49 PM

Wait a sec - what does that mean no native Java any more? Has this somethin to do with the Carakan? Is it not implemented any more?yikes
I have no clue, but isn't it the aim to make browsers as plugin-less as possible?

Mod edit: Removed inflammatory comment.

bhsand Monday, February 8, 2010 3:04:57 PM

Why don't you add the mouse gesture bugs to the "known issues" list? Then you won't have to answer it a gazillion times on this snapshot as well.

Show/hide menu bar doesn't push up and down the address bar: a black area is there, instead.
(put the TAB BAR on the right, to see the error)

Wolfpig Monday, February 8, 2010 3:16:10 PM

Don't know if it should be so, but dropdownmenu in the adressbar shows my urls under history

http://s3b.directupload.net/images/100208/r4lgtm55.jpg

1. History is not enabled ( should always contain 0 entries )
2. The Shown adresses are all from my bookmarks...

newscpq Monday, February 8, 2010 3:16:34 PM

Two problems with the status bar:
1. if you drag Turbo button in the status bar, it'll look ugly (its' color does not match the color of the other buttons)
2. dynamic spacers don't move the buttons of the bar towards its' middle
