PowerPC and KDE fans rejoice

, , ,

Here is a new build with some very nice fixes for PowerPC and our initial work on KDE 4 integration. Neither is perfect but we hope that you will see that we are finally getting somewhere. bigsmile Opera running in KDE 4 with the Plastique style Being work in progress, there are some issues that you may stumble across. PowerPC users will hit a crashing bug if they try to run the Acid 3 test. However many other sites will see a vast improvement. We'd therefore encourage users to test a range of their favourite sites and submit cash logs if they hit any. KDE users should also be aware of a crash on exit. Even if you aren't interested in PowerPC or KDE we would encourage you to give the build a spin as there fixes to Core and Carakan as well. Note: As always try to keep comments on topic and don't repeat already reported bugs. Also, when discussing new issues please mention which Operating System you use, including the version (and the distribution and Desktop Environment on UNIX/Linux). Known Issues

sabisan Wednesday, April 14, 2010 7:45:59 AM

Switching the tabs (with mouse-clicking on them) with some random (quite long sometimes) delays.

Win7x64

EDIT: Also scrolling&typing delays

EDIT2: Cpu usage too high

EDIT3: After just restarting Opera all problems above dissapeared. Weird bigsmile

EDIT4: After a while all the problems come back.

Zotlan Wednesday, April 14, 2010 7:49:11 AM

Do you still want the crash reports from craching on exit or do you not need them?

EDIT: ah, it's great to have the KDE file dialog back.

koimark Wednesday, April 14, 2010 7:52:29 AM

Upgrading from last snapshot destroyed my session-file. Now I have only desktopteam blog tab and 18 empty page tabs and 4 empty tabs with quick launch shortcuts. But this could be my own fault - because I accidentally clicked some mail link (in Postbox-mail client) same time I was installing this newer versio - I got some error message: Error in Opera 10 module or something.) It could be that this caused some locking situation during installation but I decided tell this observation anyway.

Nope, don't need the crash on exit reports but please do upload any other crash reports.

Seems smoother thus far, however, flash hasn't worked for the last couple builds for me in Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64. Plugin wrapper constantly crashes on startup.

@Mark Gillespie
Technically speaking, yours accomplished that. wink

no word about the network issue (nsl ?) (loading freezes on certain sites until restart) whistle
but on another side i see that Unix got some love. wink
many thanks

Just a further note on this known issue:

Originally posted by ruario:

Uninstalling ('rpm -e opera') will not remove your personal preferences.

P.S. If you upgrade from a stable (10.10) this will not be a problem. Nor will it be a problem upgrading in the future.

crisps Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:06:21 AM

The new installer (in Windows) is a bit unclear if it upgrades your Opera build or not. While in the previous version there was a nice (already ticked) checkbox for that.

Even when looking at the "Options" button it is still not completly clear if it upgrades or not.

Lucalucaviozzi Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:07:02 AM

can't log in on facebook, opera crash all the times i try to put username and password.
Tried to clear the cache but no luck it crashes anyway.
anyone got the same problem?

hk3dom Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:08:11 AM

bug still not fixed

This build keeps removing one of my bookmarks from the personal bar (it only removes it from the personal bar, not from the bookmarks itself).

I open the bookmarks panel, right-click the affected bookmark to change its properties where I tick Show on Personal Bar. I click OK, the bookmark re-appears on the personal bar, but when I close Opera and start it again, the bookmark is gone again.

PS: This issue was not present in the previous build 3344.

Why is that BtW? (i know it's off topic but it's something that's been bugging me.Though it is convenient in this case.)

Thank you. Can someone post an Opera kde screenshot? On Mac 10.6.3 opera still doesn't respect spaces rules but opera link seems to work fine...

Do you have NSPluginWrapper installed? If yes, set it to be ignored for Flash.

Thanks. This worked...
Preferences -> Advanced -> Content -> Plug-in Options... -> Change Path... -> (unchceck) "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins"

...but what if I don't want to lose other plugins in that folder such as the rhythmbox plugin? What is the conflict with this plugin and why can't the wrapper ignore it instead if necessary?

Lucalucaviozzi Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:18:13 AM

using ccleaner to clear the data worked and now facebook login is working again.

dovelove Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:22:28 AM

Just downloaded scared to review so quickly but seems to be MUCH better on proxy with Vista 64 ...just downloaded 7 NEW security updates on Vista 64 before this ...hope it doesn't cause more problems.

Had same installer problems went to loading instead of upgrade box it usually has don't know if that is a problem.

dupel Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:24:40 AM

First run - crash on opening + crash report.
Second run - became unresponsive on crash report page that opens automatically.
Third and further runs - crash without crash report dialogue.

After I started new session - works. However, I still thinks its almost unusable, because of problems with my session (will try to find the site-problem).

Win7 x64

Edit: Ended up downgrading, as I need my previous session.

The webpage http://www.bodyrock.tv/ hasn't worked after 10.5x. Either the main page or after clicking some link in it the website turns into a jibberish code.

On uninstalling? It's what you'd expect no? Everything removed, a completely fresh start (which is what you need with some problems), no private data left behind.

It's easy to remove the profile though, so not a big issue.

MichałEmdek Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:32:40 AM

By the way, creating thumbnails for websites in speed dial is still broken (probably started with first April build), it looks like CSS is disabled for them.

That's how RPM and usually any package management system works. It installs/uninstalls the application but it is not touching user files. BTW, Windows uses the same logic ... if you uninstall something, configurations are kept.

MichałEmdek Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:34:46 AM

@Zotlan, if enabled by default then it would cause not expected data loss for many users, but maybe as an option could make sense.

@patkoscsaba: Good to here. Also we are almost 'feature complete' on UNIX now as well (we still need printing support added back). Most of the issues are bug fixes.

Hello there,
Im trying to enable Java in this build, but im not able to get it working.
Im using Ubuntu 10.04 (64Bit)

Does anyone know where to look for, or how to enable this, or is this still something a work in progress??

I found an IMAP folder bug. When you create a new folder, instead of creating a new folder with the name "New folder", 2 folders are created with the names "New" and "folder" ... maybe related to the bug that files with spaces in their names can't be directly opened ???
