New weekly build

, , , ,

It's friday again and we're happy to release a new weekly build. There are some important fixes in this build, and people using BitTorrent in TP2 should take extra note of the changes:

Changes since 13 February 2006:
  • Fixed so upload in BitTorrent doesn't send corrupt data. Some changes to improve the speed.
  • Changed feed notification icon.
  • Fixed crash when searching in opera:config
  • The [Adv User prefs] section of opera6.ini and opera:config has been renamed to [Network].
  • Removing button on one toolbar now removes from all open tabs not just active one.
  • Fix to allow nested forms.
  • Added widget error reporting to the error console.
  • Possible fix for buttons not working on GMail.

Unix specific changes:
  • Improved session management handling
  • Modified pluginwrapper so that plug-ins see a Composite widget. Some versions of the real plug-ins seem to need this.
  • Shortcut fixes for widget handling in the unix-keyboard.ini setting
  • Fixed problems with missing resizing of content of detached windows.
  • Cleanup and fixed problems with parsing of remote commands. We were unable to open filenames with spaces.
  • Improved window handling for widgets.

Known issues:
  • Saving preferences in opera:config, while any file path preference contains a string with spaces, can cause the paths to become corrupted, or multiple warning dialogs to be displayed. You are advised not to use opera:config in this release, or the previous weekly release.
  • Might crash in some cases when switching between tabs with the mouse.

Woo hoo unix build at last smile

RachidRachidNL Friday, February 17, 2006 3:38:50 PM

I've heard these release notes aren't complete, but could you please reveal if there are any fixes in the IMAP backend, for example when it comes to synchronizing? Synchronizing doesn't work too well in TP2. smile

Dennis-Hawks Friday, February 17, 2006 3:39:04 PM

Windows build download link is broken

minisu Friday, February 17, 2006 3:47:54 PM

Windows build 8226???

denopera Friday, February 17, 2006 5:38:59 PM

Cookies are still deleted after exiting Opera when "Delete cookies on exit" is deactivated in "Site preferences" for special sites but activated in the default settings.

BTW, is it planned to block DIV Elements like it's done in AdBlock Plus? This would be great.

Idan AdarYtseJam Friday, February 17, 2006 5:45:20 PM

Looks like my local css file will not apply (worked in the previous build...).

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, February 17, 2006 5:46:23 PM

@thexfile: Please read the release notes. That is listed as a known issue.

@hcastill: It's being worked on.

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, February 17, 2006 5:51:24 PM

Folks, please remember that all bugs reported last week will not be fixed this week (or next week or the week after). We still need bug reports on issues you find (after others have reproduced it), so you may find the forums a better place to discuss problems you find.

aimzz Friday, February 17, 2006 6:00:13 PM

Just curious-- is the thread that accompanies a Weekly (ex this thread for 8225) considered to be the changelog, or is there another link we should be looking at in addition?
Thanks
(so far, no probs-- waiting quietly for my pet bug fix) smile

Gábor LehelIllissius Friday, February 17, 2006 6:10:45 PM

The issue with focusing background pages in the Unix version is still there sad. (oddly enough, it was fixed in the previous weekly Windows build -- didn't try this one.)
just submitted a bug report.

ronin.achilles Friday, February 17, 2006 6:43:29 PM

No fix for Automatic Proxy Script ??

Unless this is done, I just can't use it from my office. IE and Firefox work perfectly. Whats the problem with Opera?

jackpea Friday, February 17, 2006 7:52:07 PM

Nice one.

Zodiack Friday, February 17, 2006 8:17:03 PM

still badly renders menu on the left in www.liveforspeed.net
and can't download torrents (windows xp)

Carlos Renato F. VendraminiRedPingüim Friday, February 17, 2006 8:34:54 PM

Linux System

Ok..

But seems there is a problem with Java.

First, I have to set the system variable to force Opera enables Java.

Second, despite the cited variable has been pointed out, still no Java can be detected by sun's detection agent for Java: http://www.java.com/pt_BR/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre.

The previous release didn't present this behavior.

No matter Java's version (I used 1.5.0_06 and 1.6.0-beta2-b72). The result is the same for both versions.

Is anybody reading the comments?

Don't discuss bugs here. Post bug stuff in the Beta forum.

As far as Unix, I'm still looking for a fix for button6 and button7 ...

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, February 17, 2006 9:13:54 PM

@ronin.achilles: Bug number? Talking about something without giving a reference doesn't help anyone else to know what you're talking about.

"Removing button on one toolbar now removes from all open tabs not just active one."

Finally! I've been looking forward for this change for some time now smile

Edit: One more thing:

"Might crash in some cases when switching between tabs with the mouse."

Are you talking about when you right-click on the mouse and uses the wheel to see a list of all open tabs? If so - good news, I've noticed this crash earlier.

wakest Friday, February 17, 2006 11:33:16 PM

no love for the powerbook toting mac kids?

I have been really digging the opera builds, and have been waiting for this next release all week. now I will have to boot into my ubuntu install to try the unix build.

come on, give up mac users some love.

Me needs a mac build!

Tim AltmanJunyor Saturday, February 18, 2006 12:21:58 AM

All platforms will not be released every week. UNIX wasn't released last week and Mac wasn't released this week. If one platform has problems, we won't hold back the others. That is the only alternative.

@Pondus: The crash is new to this weekly build. If you mean "earlier" as in with last week's build, that's something else.

superjoppe Saturday, February 18, 2006 12:41:08 AM

the mac version is by far the worst one, still nothing new this week?

Brad I.Pocket_PC_Addict Saturday, February 18, 2006 1:06:41 AM

Is there a plan for Opera supporting Web2.0? I am finding things like Typepad, Gmail and other sites are pretty limited when using Opera

Northgrove Saturday, February 18, 2006 1:15:44 AM

I think you need to be more specific than "Web 2.0" as that's... well, just a buzzword and can include everything and nothing. But you're right in that there may still be problems with e.g. XmlHttpRequest and rich text editing.

Philip Seyfiseifip Saturday, February 18, 2006 9:40:39 AM

Gmail still doesnt work... When i subscribe to new RSS channel, some old posts from other RSS channel are included at top of the new one :/ RSS icon is great, but I will prefer if it will be a bit smaller and in other color (maybe, blue?).

Anyway, thnx for another great build!

John BarnettJohn164 Saturday, February 18, 2006 10:18:07 AM

File Forum are showing build 8225 as a Beta surly that is wrong? Should this build even be on the File Forum Site?????

chesss Saturday, February 18, 2006 10:30:39 AM

Hey is that changelog 'complete', or are there changes to rendering engine as well?
And how come there are only 2 known issues? Are the other s(proxy, transfers tab) fixed smile

velmu Saturday, February 18, 2006 1:05:15 PM

"There is no Mac build this week."

Bastards.

shadowKshadowk Saturday, February 18, 2006 2:07:38 PM

arg...this build is more trouble than it's worth. none of my fav widgets are working and i get a

config.xml could not be parsed, widget will be rejected

for most of them...did they change the something?

RobertRuneMaster Saturday, February 18, 2006 2:46:22 PM

I love living on the bleeding edge smile This build (8225) is rather unstable compared to the previous. Three crashes in two days compared to zero for the previous build in a week.

Sure is fun to play with this smile
