Opera Desktop Team

…and one more weekly!

, ,

It's Friday again - time for one more round of testing a snapshot of our internal development!

As usual, please read the Known Issues List first:

  • Cannot view e-mail attachments within Opera.
  • :hover pseudo-class is only recognised when hovering inline boxes within an element (may cause Pure CSS Menus to fail).
  • Text may be misaligned on buttons.
  • Self closing (non-script) tags may break the layout.
  • Some pages may have unexpected linebreaks.

Changelog

  • Fixed crasher on Flash.
  • Added experimental support for opening Web archives.
  • Improved display of content blocker toolbar.
  • Added keyboard shortcuts Cmd+[ and Cmd+] for back/forward on Mac.
  • Up/down arrows no longer select next/previous messages in e-mail and news views when the message view has focus.
  • Improved notification of invalid SSL certificates.
  • Upgrading will automatically disable 40 and 56 bit SSL/TLS ciphers.
  • Fixed float and inline box stacking order, as required by the Acid2 test.
  • Allowed mouse events to pass through clipped or overflowed (or otherwise transparent) regions of an element.
  • Added class contructors for CanvasGradient, CanvasPattern, and CanvasRenderingContext2D.
  • Added support for HTMLTableElement.cells collection.
  • <xml> elements are no longer removed from the HTML DOM.
  • Improved handling of offsetTop, offsetLeft, and offsetParent.
  • Added support for Selection.removeAllRanges and Selection.addRange.

I'm using the windows build and it crashes whenever I try loading Google Reader. Reverting back to 8238 for now.

C.Felipe 10. March 2006, 19:49

Cool man.
Now the Color Scheme manual changes works great.

Hi all...

On build 8265 right now.

Server Manager [Tools/Advanced/Cookies/Add] does not work. I simply can't add any site. Can't see which cookies are stored either.

ContentBlocker is very nice. Would not work properly on some sites, though. See for instance http://mail2.voila.fr/webmail/fr_FR/login.html

where I can't get rid of the add

http://images.wanadooregie.com/imgclt2/Ebay_winter_lifestyle_2_300x250_280206.gif

because when in BlockContent mode, the buttons Done/Cancel/Details would not appear. Same issue on some other sites from time to time.

Thanks and greetings and congratulations to developers.

Weird rendering too on some pages when using the Ctrl-F11 option. see for instance http://www.generation-nt.com/actualites/12888/google-fraude-clics

Güettler 10. March 2006, 20:40

There is a known bug with saving MHT. url() in CSS is not saved (so if layout looks wrong check if page uses url() in CSS). This has been fixed internally, just hasn't found its way to a build yet.

Other issues you should be aware of which might make pages not appear the same when opening a MHT file, iframes are not saved and, for security reasons, opened MHT files does not run javascript.

If you find other bugs, please report them. I'm sure there are more for you to find

steamist 10. March 2006, 21:13

Yahoo crashes on me.

I go to http://login.yahoo.com/config/mail?.intl=us&rand=1978449521&i=IWZkZHNKIXRzZnNydEpidXV4dSF0ZEqOZHh4fH5iU356YmNYcnM%3d&.src=ym , fill in my username/password.

I chose to save my password, I click on the link that says 22 mails, then Opera crashes.

Repeated it three times, crashed all on me.

Sgt_Hobo 10. March 2006, 21:54

Just installed it. Congrats on the Acid 2 compliance. I kind of like the improved content blocker bar as well.

Shane R. Monroe 10. March 2006, 21:59

Hmmm .. As a developer, MHTML support without Javascript drastically reduces the usefulness of the format. Perhaps we could get a means of enabling it? Perhaps a user-approved click that pops up and says 'This content contains potentially dangerous scripting. Ok to run?' or something like that?

jackpea 10. March 2006, 22:19

Seems alot more stable and faster.

GaaraZanta 10. March 2006, 22:34

The .mht seems to work fine for me, might use it now as a co-save with .html, would save bandwidth for articles on the web I want to view later, this version so far is much less buggy, doesn't crash every 20 minutes(lol the last week has been in anticipation of the next build, 8246 was hell) and keep up the good work, excited for whats next. I had a quick question, this might have been asked, but could you make it so that yo can disable specific plugins besides just Java and javascript? Thanks in advanced.

compunett 10. March 2006, 23:08

Congratulation, your work isn't meanless, seriously it rocks

I have found a bug. I have done a website that works well in IE, Fx, etc..., and it works well in opera as well exept for this detail. In a form where I choose a date, I made an input with the following code:

< form>...
< input type="text" id="from" name="from" value="[Date]"
onFocus="if (ft_fromto) {this.value=formatDate(new Date());this.form.to.value=this.value;ft_fromto=false;}"
onChange="if (ft_fromto) {this.form.to.value=this.value;ft_fromto=false;}">

< input type="image" id="trig_from" src="calendar.gif" >
...
< /form>

The input type image is ignored, and I see nothing.
Btw, I'm referring to the thml 4.01 std -> http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html

I also have problems with table whose width is increased with fixed width in their style or in the style of the conating element. THis happens when the content of a cell cannot be broken on several line (in my situation it is a text that does not contain any space, and I cannot change that fact). Fx is afflicted with the same bug and IE does well. At least I think my assumption is correct, a fixed width should be respected no matter the content.

Web Archives Support - Great Work
ACID2 - Great work twice

=D +99

bart 11. March 2006, 00:58

please fix this url:

http://www.mininova.org/

Thanks alot

akira28 11. March 2006, 01:02

Congratulations on passing Acid2! I just downloaded the Mac version. This page didn't show the scrollbar. I had that problem a couple times before. Quiting and reopening Opera fixed it.

JGJones 11. March 2006, 01:31

There are talks about this build passing Acid2 test.

I'll like to clear it up...

I don't think it pass Acid2 just yet although it's so close! Great work.

1. Move mouse cursor over face - nose turns blue. Is this as intended? If not, then it's a bug.

2. Scroll up/down (use arrow keys) - face get messed up, two blocks stay as they are.

Cheers

RS 11. March 2006, 01:31

bart, I have never under stud this torrent junk. 3/4 is crap and tons of virus and I can not post problems about Adult sites. WTF

I think we should be able to post about adult sites if people can post torrent sites.

RS 11. March 2006, 02:41

JGJones, the only way you will know what it does is have a Mac and the latest release of Safari. Thats supposed to be the first browser to pass. So get that and test it.

superjoppe 11. March 2006, 02:57

" 3/4 is crap and tons of virus"

LOL

Moisés Santana 11. March 2006, 03:19

Very good release, keep the good work!

RS 11. March 2006, 03:33

3/4 of crap = illegal content that should not be downloaded in the US. Ya, who cares I don't because I do not use it. The thing is if I want to post a site that has adult content I am not aloud to post it..

RS 11. March 2006, 04:08

If bart gets this http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/172375?startidx=50#comment1482105 fixed. I want this site fixed. NSFW 18+ Only! http://www.canal96.com/ If you look to the right there is 5 links for each day. Only 2 for each day is underlined and click able in Opera. In Firefox all links are underlined and click able and work. Please fix it. LOL

GaaraZanta 11. March 2006, 04:40

When was the 'check for updates' added to Opera, its seems useful(though I won't get to try it until next friday).

Luchio 11. March 2006, 05:02

"Check for updates" checks for stable releases only. I think it's available since around v8.5. It also updates the user javascripts provided by opera to fix common problems in webpages.

taddek8 11. March 2006, 05:42

8265 so far is best.

Anil 11. March 2006, 05:46

I eagrly wait for these releases every week. I am still waiting for NTLM....
Other than that I am happy with what I get with browser. (I am not a web developer though). Opera ROCKS.

And I can customize it the way I want.

gilb 11. March 2006, 06:30

for me 8265 more stable and faster.think is the best weekly on my winXP, no bug with KAV6.keep the good work!

Anil 11. March 2006, 07:10

Confirming that 8265 crashed with yahoo mail. Reverting back to 8246 for now.

Jan Mikula 11. March 2006, 08:33

Acid2 test - Good work
But i have one problem with http://google.com/reader , when i visit this page, Opera crash.

Tamil 11. March 2006, 08:59

Opera ignores profile directory & Upload bug are not fixed for a looooooong time.

Vjekoslav Begovic 11. March 2006, 09:00

When you have minimum font size set at 14px, Opera doesn't pass ACID2 test.

aegeus 11. March 2006, 09:05

Unfortunately Yahoo Mail crashes Opera here too. Confirmed :frown:

chesss 11. March 2006, 09:06

Finally works with proxo!! yay! I can use weeklies now :hat:
Bug: find in links doesn't finds 'sci' on http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=opera&btnG=Search+News

serious 11. March 2006, 09:34

opera rocks. it's cool that it now passes the acid2-test. and I've not experienced any problems so far with this build ... but I haven't recieved mails with attachments 'til now.

thexfile 11. March 2006, 09:53

I've noticed on this build (8265) page rendering is off.

Opera shows ugly stuff there, no HTML just %°H˜$‘à8n_¨åJ4%9âÝ.'5KÀ® ¼Í-—õÑœ¾Ó@‘e|ʈQÓeñù¤[®µbè/*6ïò7ê´ªî™Eý©ùšÝE‘k¿È'fÃn–·¢Aª"óΣ¤bŸ%Ó†bd>…yXLyŠ|^刣V0@§Ò¯@Лðªð˜¶°p¯ Ø Ì7›åòÛ½WB«„— |Ãeê›.5ZB >€®?dî¤ßç6›»oö·¶zf¥H¡Iƒýâu¾)Fbáx ³)‡vl·ÿ¹tmŽÆ{qørºËEЈ¡bS0JÔ™lFHˆÝÙÙ2ÃŽ&5mÍÃ'o4‡IìoIg<:6|2üûµ?2çz0¨ø¬Fü5þ’)z( etc

Vygantas 11. March 2006, 10:15

http://www.getpaidforum.net/

Makes blank empty square in the top near navigation, all other browsers don't have this problem.

Evren Esat Özkan 11. March 2006, 10:44

Too much crashing on various sites. I'm returned to b117 (on Dapper Drake)

bkausbk 11. March 2006, 11:50

Opera seems still not to render web pages correctly. I created a simple example where only 2 <img> tags were used. Take a look at http://www.kalytta.com/bugs/opera/test.html

There you'll also find how it should be rendered correctly.

grove 11. March 2006, 12:05

Here's a bug that I've seen in all the latest 9.0 weekly builds:

A hyperlink like bar does not actually get rendered as a link. The culprit seems to be that the unquoted href attribute ends in a / character.

Here's an actual webpage that illustrates the problem:
http://ratebeer.com/findbeer.asp?BeerName=hobgoblin

adjkerntz 11. March 2006, 12:16

Is scrolling now less speedy? Am I wrong?

Inpromptu 11. March 2006, 15:00

Great !!
Can't wait to update my cvs version and start submitting patches... !

Haavard 11. March 2006, 15:09

JGJones, you aren't supposed to scroll Acid2. Opera does pass.

SlashBeast 11. March 2006, 15:51

Where is static-qt rpm version !?

desmasiic 11. March 2006, 17:34

A request:

Is it possible that you guys can make save page feature work like Firefox does? I mean the way the main file's (htm, html whatever) content (images, scripts etc.) is stored in seperate folder of same name? It keeps it all clean and easy to navigate when saving lot's of pages.

rafikk 11. March 2006, 18:31

Can anyone confirm what i see with http://www.linux-ntfs.org/ ?
Both windows and linux version do not display site correcly.
Well at least until you switch identification to Internet Explorer.
Regards

Malte Lenz 11. March 2006, 18:39

If you zoom this page 90%, and then scroll to look at compunetts comment a little further up, the smiley in it appears differently if you scroll to it from above or from beneath.

Maybe not a bug, but doesn't look to good.

tyskis

Shaffe 11. March 2006, 18:52

it's in french but look the picuture on this page and you will see the power of Opera http://www.generation-nt.com/actualites/12952/navigateur-opera-test-acid-2
It's a great browser

Helena Červinková 11. March 2006, 19:27

Stay calm :-)
All "passed-Acid2-browsers" (Opera, Safari, iCab and Konqueror on Mac) don't pass Acid2 if you set big minimum font size or just zoom.
