Opera Desktop Team

Mid weekly release

We are throwing out a mid weekly this time ;-)
Widget UI is still under development, some things might not work as expected.

Also take a look at the Web Applications team new blog, for details of some of the extra features of Opera's canvas implementation.

Also if you are tweaking with the language file in the weeklies try to catch these entries from Peter:

What is the point of "weeklies" if you can't stick to the schedule? p

Our schedule is weak (bad pun, sorry).

You could ignore it for now, and come back on friday p

Oh that's it, mess up my schedule, now Friday has no more special meaning.

In the words of Cartmund from the SouthPark show, "your breakin' by balls here, breakin' my balls"!

Keep up the good work Opera People!

Is this a known phenomenon: When printing a mail/ng-message, the header is not printed at all. Neither subject, nor date or sending or receiving e-mail addresses are printed. Kind of annoying, isn't it? Do you expect the user to edit mime.css in order to get the old header back - just for printing? I admire the new header, so I don't want to miss it. I am also not looking forward to having to switch between layouts every time I feel like printing a message, though. wink By the way: The message source code misses the closing </html>-tag. Does this affect anything?

        <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Strict//EN"> <html> <head> Mail <link rel="stylesheet" href="file://localhost/C:\Programme\Opera\9weekly\Styles\mime.css" type="text/css"> </head> <body>

        Mail headers
        Mail body
        </body>

        chrislu, please be more specific.

Tim AltmanJunyor Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:24:41 PM

@t_matze: We have bug reports on both of those issues. The missing HTML close tag should not be causing any problems.

        Rijk Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:26:36 PM

        @t_matze:

        Headers-not-printing is known.

The missing </html> is a bit silly, but doesn't have any bad (or good) results.

        Alexbaabaa Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:27:00 PM

Will there ever be an option in prefs to always open searches from search bar in new tabs instead of shift-enter?
-Congrats on solving the remembering widgets thing btw

        TommyTommy2k4 Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:36:51 PM

Could you please make the search box highlight any existing text ready for overwriting when you click it instead of placing the cursor where you click? I'm sure it used to be like this but was changed in recent betas.

        FataL Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:43:04 PM

Have a problem with text search on this page: http://www.nashvs.net/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=362
Try for example search for XSLT - it searches only links.

Is there the possibility to analize why the field to send scraps to other people on Orkut has the layout messed?

I don't know how to report that because is necessary to make logon into Orkut to send scraps.

        Here a screenshot:

        haavard:
i was very specific a while back. but no one cared. try every forum based on the vbulletin code (like http://www.forum-3dcenter.org) and read some threads, then you notice, that the messages are displayed cascaded. on the gmx.de site on the inbox page the display of the messages is messed up massively from time to time (try loading it a couple of times).

Site www.oglobo.globo.com is not working properly, I did report it and its bug #201871 bug I'll be more specific:
The site auto-reloads itself every 5 minutes (I think) thats the correct behaviour but, no matter what identify I use, it just stops working correctly, it just gives me a blank window after it refreshes like, the second or third time AND another bug on the same site is that I click on a link and it goes to the page but blank, I have to go back and re-click 3x or press reload to read it. It has been like that on every 9.
Appart of that Opera is the best no matter what!! Keep'em coming!!

        bug in mac build
Displaying headers of mail: instead of time I have #c

        Alexbaabaa Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:46:18 PM

jorunnix: but is there any way to do it specifically to the search bar? For example, I like bookmarks to open in same tabs...

        Bill PBill_P Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:46:18 PM

Are you aware that in the last few weeks Linux builds that Yahoo mail and Hotmail can not be logged into? Is there a workaround? I changed the id to IE (and Mozilla) and cleared the cookies and nada.

        thanks,

João EirasxErath Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:52:31 PM

why not including flash with the classic installer ?? bah !

        Rijk Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:53:18 PM

@baabaa: there would have to be lots of separate settings then, which is not a good idea. It will have to be Shift+Enter/click if you don't want new tabs in general.

        Bill PBill_P Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:53:38 PM

Widget handle can now be disabled but it can not be re-enabled

        nurzka Wednesday, March 29, 2006 6:54:29 PM

        1) "block content..." from context menu seems to not working proper.
when you clink on any object nothing is happening.

        2) i still have widgets items on my taskbar (i'm using litestep).

        http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/9382/untitled11yi.png

i thing widget windows styles should set as a WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW.

        //sorry for my broken english:D

        @nuzka: don't 'pin' them then.

        phpBB rendering still not fixed...
Also there is bug with big pictures rendering, drawing incorrectly. See this -

The picture is ok, try downloading it and opening it to see it.

Simon Houstonshoust Wednesday, March 29, 2006 7:03:53 PM

Will there be a better way to install plugins then? Because at the moment you need to click the placeholder, go to the website and download the installer that downloads the plugin. Maybe like ua.ini, keep a list of addresses to download plugins from opera server from, and possibly update them when a user downloads a plugin from the server.

Vito Evolavevola Wednesday, March 29, 2006 7:29:02 PM

I'm having problems... how do I set GMail as my default email client to open with Opera (my default browser! wink )? I tried via GMail notifier, but it doesn't seem to "stick"

What needs to be put in Opera's program window?

        Could someone help?

@nurzka: Please bugreport it and provide this information in the bug report.

Hey guys, tell me please, will be a language-codes in LNG-files ever changed? Or You planning to re-arrange them in the final reelase?
I need to know it to create my own translation for the Final release of Opera 9. I mean, if they will be re-arranged some time, i will have to remake all LNG-file...

        I'm about it:
-303587263="Could not connect to remote server"
        406813980="Connection closed by remote server"
        etc...

As You can see, the codes seems to be randomly arranged to make more space for new strings added during the Beta-period.

PS: Sorry if this was already been discussed.

It seems the static build is not as fast as the static from last weekend.

When doing the http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/benchjs/benchjs.html test, now I get results in the 4.95-5.05 range instead of 3.95-4.05.

Is there a reason for this?!

Further the build is great wink

        Jan

Edit: forgot to tell the platform: Linux Slackware based derivate Zenwalk 2.2, Kernel 2.6.15.

I have still same problem with fetching headers from IMAP acount. Only 376 of 1063 headers are fetched and then the connection freezes. In Opera 8 everything works fine so I think that the problem isn't in my account.

Thank you SOOO much! bigsmile I hated the idea that I was going to have to wait a week before I could finally disable the widget thumb.

        Wow, this was...unexpected. Thanks. cheers

        EDIT:

Just noticed this (didn't read changelog before downloading smile ). Very nice work. up

Still cant apply changed user css without closing opera (ugh!!!!)
Visited links file seems frequently reseted.
Font in history i transfer panel is different than in other panels.
Also - when viewing images there is few pixels margin/padding(?) can I change it somehow?

When will the thing with site specific cookies setting fixed?
And do you have to put so much unnecessary code in override.ini - even if I change one thing its served with 10 or so additional lines, its 10 times bigger file to read at startup.
        And...
Um... ok, thats all for now ;D

In short. Zoom bug - when? wink
        Tests: 1, 2, 3
        Links: my journal, forum topic
Just couple examples of affected live pages:
Sitepoint - print and email icons
JuicyStudio - small icon after every external link
You need to use zoom to "activate" this buggy behavior. Press [+] or [-] on your numeric keypad.

I think I found a bug with the Widget thing.

My startbar in Windows is on top, and when I click the Opera widgets, the background gets a black tint -- except for the space at the bottom where the startbar usually is.

        Peterwpfreund Wednesday, March 29, 2006 10:17:23 PM

I don't know if anyone will read this being way down on the list but I have a feature suggestion:

When Spam e-mail are received by the Opera e-mail program, there should be a pop-up option so that one can see the 'subject' and 'from' lines of the spam e-mail just received. That way, if a real e-mail is filtered as spam, it can possibly be caught much quicker.

This popup would of course be in the lower right corner or left corner and dissappear after a pre-set time.

        Thanks,
        Peter
