Opera Desktop Team

It's Friday again.

, , ,

Some were worried we would have moved our weeklies to Wednesdays - but do not fear: there is the usual Friday's Weekly for you too!

Widget UI (would you have guessed?) is still under development - but we keep seeing progress.

Changelog
  • Several memory leaks fixed;
  • Display issues fixed - noticeable e.g. on gmail and vBulletin sites;
  • Fixed bug with attachment button on gmail;
  • Fixed bug with pages not loaded on restart;
  • Fixed content blocker;
  • Fixed Proxy On/Off toggle in Quick Preferences;
  • Added setting for show widget handle in Preferences > General;
  • Ongoing work on widget GUI;

Unix Specific
  • Netscape Plug-in API 0.16 enabled on Linux/Unix
  • A shared .6 package is not available this time.

Yes - you saw that correctly: Netscape Plug-in API 0.16 has been enabled on Linux/Unix! This means for our Linux users, among other things, that mplayerplug-in now is working in Opera :smile:

Nice! Will the Widget's handler be enabled by defualt? I must say I don't like that so much.

FataL 31. March 2006, 16:46

Cool!
Fixed issues with in-page search and blocking content. :up:

Cool, thanks :smile:

Kita-!
glad.

mgillespie 31. March 2006, 16:56

Seeing as we are all testing these weeklies, perhaps there should be some guidelines as to what is expected of us, as far a reporting bugs etc.

I have posted a few in these threads, but not sure if this is the correct thing to do.

As far as layout bugs, are they better reported by using Help, Report A Site Problem?

Please help us to help Opera..

Junyor 31. March 2006, 17:00

@mgillespie: See http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=23497. The regular beta testing rules apply. And no, Report a site problem will not get weekly bugs fixed. You should post a forum thread about a bug and once you receive confirmations, file a bug report. Comments in this thread only are pretty useless.

Ramunas 31. March 2006, 17:02

Widgets dont work at all, though the handle appears, i click it and i get a grey screen. :frown:

mgillespie 31. March 2006, 17:02

Widget crashing Opera is still present in the Win build (use the Touch The Sky weather plugin, flip it, and search for a location will always crash Opera). I'm pretty sure it's not widget specific, and anyway, widgets should not be able to crash the host..

toman 31. March 2006, 17:04

I cant wait to test the new plugins API :D

velmu 31. March 2006, 17:10

I be downloading das Mac build. I've had this random, but really annoying bug for a while now: http://youtube.com/watch?v=s_sewoSm870

Any ideas on what is causing it and/or has anything been done about it?

rocco 31. March 2006, 17:10

Hmmmmmm mplayerplug-in.....

One has to love fridays.

zyph 31. March 2006, 17:11

I got random crashes at first, with the Mac build. It also crashed on exit. After renaming the (old) Widgets folder, it's more stable than ever -- so obviously there are some Widgets issues with this build (which seems rather logical to me, since it's ongoing work.)

Thumbs up!

sebt 31. March 2006, 17:11

Sweet. It's that friday feeling again :smile:

babumuchhala 31. March 2006, 17:13

Might sound silly but can someone tell me the difference between the following 2 packages

opera -static_9.0-20060331.1-qt_en_dapper_i386.deb

and

opera-static_9.0-20060331.1-qt_en_i386.deb

babumuchhala: the dapper one has different dependency checking. Use it only if you use Ubuntu dapper.

alsiladka 31. March 2006, 17:17

Pampering us so much ....... Man you should'nt be doing it every week :smile:

Display issues fixed - noticeable e.g. on gmail and vBulletin sites;

Cannot wait to test it outtttt

FataL 31. March 2006, 17:19

Fixed bug with pages not loaded on restart

Really? I still have that problem... :frown:

csant 31. March 2006, 17:20

FataL, is that only after the first restart after upgrade, or also after that?

wupperbayer 31. March 2006, 17:30

Like that build :smile:

Thoght I had to write something positive after those negative posts I wrote to the last builds. :wink:

Once again, very nice build. I say this really could be the first beta version of Melin.

chrislu 31. March 2006, 17:32

praise you if that vbulletin thing is gone :wink:

THX opera is the best

EDIT: YEAH now opera is near perfect again :wink:

Wajo357 31. March 2006, 17:33

Getting better!
When restarting, pages still come up blank- even on multiple restarts. However, this is an "upgrade" and not a fresh install.
Also, putting the widget option in "general" seems wierd. Would a widget section in the advanced tab make more sense?

Thanks again for the great work!!!!

pholie 31. March 2006, 17:39

No luck with mplayer-plugin here :frown:. It only displays gray window where the movie should be. In other browser it works as usually.

opera: Plug-in 4915 is not responding. It will be closed.

csant 31. March 2006, 17:42

pholie, I would be interested in knowing
a) the mplayerplug-in version used,
b) the gecko-sdk it is linked against,
c) the parameters you used when compiling it and
d) a URL where you see that happening.

If you did not compile mplayerplug-in yourself, please details on the distro you are using. Thanks :smile:

Lito 31. March 2006, 17:44

Fixed bug with attachment button on gmail;

No more double click! Thank you :hat:.

By the way, the upload files bug is still there: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=113354 :yuck:

After couple restarts still...
Only localhost pages reloaded, all others just blank with their address in field. So, I need to reload all of them manually one by one.

danielcs 31. March 2006, 17:56

opera -static_9.0-20060331.1-qt_en_i386.deb
Sweet!!! Thanks. :up:

Fixed bug with pages not loaded on restart;

this not fixed.Coctiune from last time(6-8 pages)6 pages not load.:frown:

pholie 31. March 2006, 18:04

csant: Distro's archlinux. Everything is from the packages, nothing compiled on my own.

The info:
mplayer-plugin 3.21
This is from the build script I found:
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-faad --enable-gtk2 --enable-wmp \
--enable-qt --enable-rm --enable-gmp
make LDFLAGS="" || return 1

I don't know which version delvelopers compiled it against but I found out that things are built against xulrunner (which has replaced gecko-sdk). PKGBUILD here if interested:
http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lib/xulrunner/PKGBUILD?rev=1.1&cvsroot=Extra&only_with_tag=CURRENT&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup

Some URL, e.g. apple traliers: http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/water/trailera/small.html

One more thing, I downloaded the .5 version of Opera but usually use the 6 one if that makes difference.

I guess I'll now try to compile some things myself and see if that helps.

adamos 31. March 2006, 18:06

depedienses is incorrect
in debian etch is libqt3-mt, opera need libqt3c102-mt

csant 31. March 2006, 18:07

pholie, thanks for feedback. It might still be necessary to configure mplayerplug-in with --enable-x .

csant 31. March 2006, 18:07

adamos, yes, know problem.

sgunhouse 31. March 2006, 18:23

No Linux .6? :cry:

Ever going to fix the regression with visited links?

zeppelin_op 31. March 2006, 18:33

i would like to ask a noob question

whats the difference between shared and static version on linux?

tnx

kuuba 31. March 2006, 18:58

Noticed a bug just recently (i.e. introduced in some last builds for mac) - Opera hangs when overwrite dialog was displayed at download. I wonder if the reason of bug is some memory leak since this build fixed it.
I even couldn't complain about bug before it was fixed. :smile:
Respect.

RedPingüim 31. March 2006, 19:00

Opera Linux build 206

Hummm

Seems to be a nice release. Thank you!

:up:

kyleabaker 31. March 2006, 19:03

sweet! those are some long waited for fixes this time around! can't wait, downloading now!

Janoma 31. March 2006, 19:06

First thing: Thanks for fixing the content blocker!

The Preferences window still closes after changing the 'Preferred languages for Web Pages' settings in the Language window. Build 8333 on Windows XP SP2.

When I insert a note to a textarea Opera adds one whitespace after the double line-break and before the first word of the paragraph (' First word...' instead of 'First word...'). Besides, it transforms an empty line into a line with two whitespaces.

varyform 31. March 2006, 19:11

Incorrent workarea detection for widgets in fullscreen mode when windows taskbar docked to the left/right

varyform 31. March 2006, 19:14

and still there is problem with edit/combo controls clickthrough in widgets (screenshot)

pholie 31. March 2006, 19:44

csant, i tried it with --enable-x but it disables support for GTK which results in missing symbols (and Firefox crashing :smile:). So it must be something else.

/usr/lib/opera/plugins/operapluginwrapper: symbol lookup error: /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.so: undefined symbol: XpmCreatePixmapFromData

/opt/mozilla/lib/firefox-1.5.0.1/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.so: undefined symbol: XtWindowToWidget

csant 31. March 2006, 20:01

pholie, a good place to discuss it could be this thread - it'll be much easier to keep an overview about the issue. Thanks for feedback! :smile:

Zybex 31. March 2006, 20:14

Will Dapper-builds work on Breezy Badger (5.10)?

Pondus 31. March 2006, 20:16

The white-space: nowrap; has finally been fixed - that's great news. :smile:

John164 31. March 2006, 20:41

Opera build 8333 crashes when Opera widgets is clicked on my Windows 2000 pro + SP4 PC.

scancinos 31. March 2006, 20:45

It crashes as soon as I log-in in gMail.

Sebastian

Hylic 31. March 2006, 21:07

@John164

It crashes by me also (windows xp pro sp2).

Junyor 31. March 2006, 21:09
