Weekly? Should be renamed semi-weekly now! p

Mark NienhauseninTrance Wednesday, April 5, 2006 3:54:47 PM

Second!

Some possible improvement: Deactivate the new Tab-Page-Preview-Pop-Up when typing into the adress bar. It hides the input when the cursor is (by accident) over a tab. And: It would be great if there would be a key which shows all site-preview-thumbnails on the whole screen (in the content window of opera) as table so that you can easily choose and switch to a site.

Windows Build 83348Classic

Error?

olli Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:02:05 PM

LoiR: Thx fixed

JasmoJazmo Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:03:23 PM

I give this a try

Yogurth Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:05:12 PM

You guys are fast ^^

Observation:

Opera since tp2 loads significantly slower on several tested machines under Win XP and Win 2000. Where before took on 3ghz machine ~1-2 seconds now goes up to 5. This still isn't bad but I liked that 1 sec boot time.

Good Luck with Opera development further on guys smile

MossMan Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:05:12 PM

The MSI installer wanted to install to a different directory even though I selected upgrade (wanted it on "c:\program files\opera 9 beta" while I have it on "d:\program files\opera")... but cancelling and starting again let me choose the correct directory using the other option (not upgrade).

The mail-display bug (pictures displayed but no text) is fixed - yay!

That's all I have so far (only used it five minutes but now I have to leave work...)

olli Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:06:15 PM

MossMan: Yeah we changed the target folder for the beta

Dennis-Hawks Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:06:38 PM

Nice to hear about the upcoming BETA.

MossMan Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:07:34 PM

Am I the only one for whom widgets COMPLETELY don't work?!?

I just quickly tried f6 and, as usual, as soon as I click on *ANYTHING*, the Widget UI just goes away again...

This may be to do with the various other problems it has since my task-bar is on the left of screen.

Martin Suelzlemarsu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:08:31 PM

no no no

don't work

MossMan Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:11:17 PM

Nope - I managed to get the clock in there a couple of weeks ago, but it only shows up if I press f6... and after that the entire WidgetUI disappears on any click, anywhere.

Okay, really going home now or the wife will kill me... wink

Martin Suelzlemarsu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:12:27 PM

again ...

no no no

<img src="oldsrc" onmousedown="this.src=newsrc;"/>

don't work

onmousedown to load a pressed pic

FS0903 Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:14:02 PM

This version crashes if you click on the widget tab at the top of the screen (WinXP Prof SP2)

Dennis-Hawks Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:16:09 PM

I understand that it is not the proper place for the below, but anyway:
Maybe, in the Beta it's time to remove some redundant entries in Preferences, like: Preferences->Advanced->Browsing->Show web page size in title bar. I believe, this setting is not so "hot" to be there and still can be enabled in opera:config.

Adam22sas Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:18:58 PM

Anything happening on IMAP?

Martin Suelzlemarsu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:23:23 PM

SVG

I still have a 98% CPU usage on

First time poster! I'm usually quite reserved in my praises for nearly all software and applications released nowadays, especially the none-gaming type. However, I have to hand it to you Opera folks. Opera is fantastic, inspite the weekly glitches wink I just tried the various Adblocking extensions available on Firefox and wow what a difference!! Firefox is as usual about 5 years behind, Windowz the usual 40, but, you guys/gals have really nailed the functionality (when it works, hehe). Such a pleasure to use, so intuitive. Together with the million and one other features this is by far the best. Thank you, thank you thank you for returning us control of our favorite addiction, web-surfing! (Even my wife, a Mac user, is thoroughly impressed with Opera! Safari is simply unusuable.) Keep on innovating!

DWz Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:30:59 PM

*Sorry, my fault!*

Shane PhillipsFrankFontaine Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:32:33 PM

Opera 9 seems to get better and better with each build, keep up the great work. However for some reason when i upgraded from last friday's weekly to build 8348 completely removed my opera settings and skin settings (note i used the classic installer not the MSI)

Props to the team for achieving 100% acid2 compliance. highly impressive. You make the best browser in the business and i will continue to be a staunch supporter smile

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:33:01 PM

downloading now, not sure what to expect, lol. the description of fixes sounds promising, but the feed back on this build thus far isn't very promising sad

anyways, thats what these builds are for, right? haha, installing in a few to test her out...

Eric Bladeeblade Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:42:54 PM

Installation routine, which has worked just fine for me ever since installing the first MSI, has now forced itself to be installed into it's own folder, even though the Upgrade option was marked. It forced itself into Program Files\Opera 9 Beta\ , and didn't take any of my settings with it.

I will not even attempt to use it if it's not going to upgrade over itself, as losing all my settings is pretty catastrophic...

it wouldn't let me change it.. sad

Sykora Skywavesykora Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:45:15 PM

We really need to change it from weekly to semi-weekly.

Just Curious, which version/distro is the Linux Build Compiled on?

Martin Suelzlemarsu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 4:48:50 PM

I still have problems with java - api pages. Take a look at the picture...

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:02:14 PM

Have you guys reached the point at which future V9 releases will be only bug fixes and optimization, or might we still see new features to come?

Not that I wouldn't be happy with the way it is now, I just love to see new stuff. smile

Dennis-Hawks Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:06:37 PM

@Fyrd
I believe, new features implementation is frozen for this beta, though they will be developed internally wink and may appear in our beloved weeklies later.

wurzelchensen Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:08:45 PM

BitTorrent for Mac still doesn't work ... The rest is great and getting greater. Would be nice if there is an option for mac user to turn off widgets, you know why :-)

El Ouataoui Fahdblack-ghost Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:14:59 PM

Good Job for this release !

Here is a quick "tutorial" for those who get Opera "fogetting" their preferences when using the MSI :

1) Once Donwload Opera 8348 MSI
2) Go Next until you reach the Upgrade/Separate Installation
3) Choose "Separate Installation"
4) Change the installation folder to the one containing your current version of Opera
5) Install

The bug in the Wand Window is also fixed.

Keep on!

srigi Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:16:29 PM

Hope you solve this bugs.

papaonline Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:21:08 PM

I do not want to see 'Opera Widgets' banner on the top of my screen always! Is it possible to remove it, when no widgets installed?

And... I have crash when pressing on this button or <F6) (hot key).

!!! Team, will be new icon or logo in new Opera version? Or still red "O" will be?

Wish: Add to hint strings (over images) "alt" and "title" tag parametres.

LudvigKanel Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:25:37 PM

Thanks for the new build! smile

Wortspiel Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:27:22 PM

Why 2 Taskbar entrys for 1 Opera Session? In my opinion the Widgets didn't need a Taskbar entry.

desmasiic Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:31:27 PM

@paonline

To disable Widgets banner, goto "Tools > Preferences > General"

Unless you just wanna disable the banner and not the widgets, then.. blah p

Anyways, for this build, I was in horror when on choosing upgrade this (beta) installed into a 'new' folder and started without my old settings. I was like "oh noes.. another of those 'we'll make you kill yourself builds", until I realized my old build was still there. So I tried uninstalling the new one, but apparently both builds are named 'OPERA 9.0' in uninstall window, so I accidently uninstalled the older one.. :|

Also, I so hate when these apps install without Start menu folder and 'WITHOUT' uninstall icon in that folder. I mean why would I wanna play cat and mouse by opening the slow 'Add/Remove' window and search for Opera 9.0 in the list to uninstall it. Just give us a shortcut in the Start menu for uninstallation please.

Oh btw, can you guys please... PLEASE! make it easier to upgrade to newer builds over 8333 without loosing all the settings and installing into a new folder?

shamrock_uk Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:31:51 PM

@paonline:

Tools -> Show widgets

Click the little arrow to the right of the little widgets tab

Deselect the box saying "show widgets tab"

This could probably be a touch more intuitive wink

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:33:55 PM

OLLI: What is "Beta RC"? I'd be happy to leave feedback, i just don't understand what I should be testing to leave feed back on.

cheers!

dimoon Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:37:21 PM

Mac version still keeps stopping responding with some Flash sites. Especialy http://www.poisonedminds.com/ does it every time when plugins are enabled.

Forser Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:40:39 PM

I am having an odd behavior off the widgets, i have the start menu at the top of the screen like a Mac.

When i access Widgets, it shows that "transparent" black background but not at the bottom where the startmenu usally are located.

Maybe something that needs to be fixed? smile Not everyone has the startmenu at the bottom of the screen!

Else, Cheers on the greatest browser out there!

Tim AltmanJunyor Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:42:37 PM

@kyleabaker: "Beta RC" means Beta Release Candidate, or a build we will potentially release as Opera 9.0 Beta if no serious problems are found.

minisu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:45:02 PM

Do you realise how rediculous "Mid-Weekly-Pre-Beta-RC" sounds? wink

Johan Borgborg Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:47:07 PM

kyleabaker: We're especially interested if you discover things that don't work in this build, but did work last week.

The default install location was changed ahead of beta, to protect users with less beta experience than you guys.. sorry if that hurts you a bit wink

AndrewLiandri Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:50:20 PM

Please can You improve and fix Native skin?
Here i wrote the details:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=132040

ctlance Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:51:31 PM

Hiya!

I simply love the recent builds... they're not without faults, but each build improves some more... smile

Is it possible to improve sandboxing of certain plugins? It's not nice to have the browser simply disappear without a trace - with or without obligatory windows error message.
This makes browsing e.g. ytmnd a bit of a chore...

Thanks for the semiweeklies!

Johan Borgborg Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:52:27 PM

minisu: Would Easter-bunny-edition suit you better? p

Osman YukselYuXeL Wednesday, April 5, 2006 5:57:48 PM

I'm glad to see that fix for IRC. Before this CPU usage becomes %100 when try to connect freenode. Thanks.

Scott Graybansgrayban Wednesday, April 5, 2006 6:00:42 PM

Still no sock4/5 support sad depressing.

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Wednesday, April 5, 2006 6:01:39 PM

@Dennis_Hawks

Ah, well that sounds good, if true. smile

@minisu

Hey, it beats Internet Explorer's latest, "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview - released on March 20th", the name for the update from "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview". Or for that matter "Mozilla Firefox 2.0: Bon Echo Alpha 1".

I mean, dude!

Scott Graybansgrayban Wednesday, April 5, 2006 6:04:22 PM

Any status on getting Yahoo new/beta email to work for Opera yet? Its still not working...

Computer.Pers Wednesday, April 5, 2006 6:04:22 PM

BETA? what beta?
I think beta can be only with NTLM!!

minisu Wednesday, April 5, 2006 6:05:10 PM

borg: heh, I guess. and it wouldn't suprise me p
